I know it's hard to tell how mixed up you feel
Hoping what you need is behind every door
Each time you get hurt, I don't want you to change
Because everyone has hopes, you're human after all
The feeling sometimes, wishing you were someone else
Feeling as though you never belong
This feeling is not sadness, this feeling is not joy
I truly understand. Please, don't cry now

Please don't go, I want you to stay
I'm begging you please, please don't leave here
I don't want you to hate
For all the hurt that you feel
The world is just illusion, trying to change you

Til he started messin with [hormones-oops] an old apple tree

Ain't that just like a woman
Ain't that just like a woman
Ain't that just like a woman she'll do it every time

You can buy a woman clothes give her money on the side
No matter what you do she ain't never satisfied

Ain't that just like a woman
Ain't that just like a woman
Ain't that just like a woman she'll do it every time

Alice Cooper

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 21/06/2018 17:17

"Killer" by Alice Cooper was one of the first albums I ever owned. I bought it for , a track that expressed my contempt and rejection of my pretentious girls school.

My overt rebellion got me expelled, but not before the school had demanded that I undergo a virginity test. My parents reacted with outrage, and the school rescinded my expulsion when they saw my exam results.

My folks took me all round the country to various schools until we found a good match. It was a boys.public school that was taking a very small number of girls for A levels. They weren't phased by my anger or rejection of ladylike behaviour. They were used to boys, who are often really bolshy, and I no longer stuck out. I had a great two years there.

TerfsUp · 21/06/2018 16:02

OTOH, I have always liked Alice Cooper.

TerfsUp · 21/06/2018 16:02

Alice, who the fuck is Alice?

I dunno. Alice doesn't live here anymore.

But he does have a nice restaurant. You can be anything you want at Alice's restaurant.

Your vanity is crazy, sweet and fair girl. Do
you believe that Love will let your youth go by
without your devoting yourself to the pleasures
of love which distribute things in many cases:
sometimes joy, sometimes pain?

This was not your desire, but Love certainly
does not agree. I tell you that your young and
joyful heart must feel the arrow of Love which
will send you thoughts of desire in many
different ways, sometimes in joy, sometimes in
pain.

And if you're forced, whether you like it or
not, to accept a frank, sweet glance, without
waiting too long, what's the use of being
so slow and langorous? I send you sighs,
more than thirty, some in joy, some in pain.

Little sweetheart, who sings so well, do you
think you can escape from the happy times that
are approaching, sometimes joyful, sometimes painful?

(Not the best translation of Christine de Pizan, but I couldnt' find the one I wanted)

"I think he goes by the name Alice these days"

Alice, who the fuck is Alice? Grin

invisibleoldwoman · 21/06/2018 15:50

Oh, FloralBunting got to quote Jabberwocky before me.

Jabberwocky www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/42916/jabberwocky

Never mind, The Owl and The Pussy Cat will be good.

The Owl and the Pussy-Cat
BY EDWARD LEAR www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/43188/the-owl-and-the-pussy-cat
I
The Owl and the Pussy-cat went to sea
In a beautiful pea-green boat,
They took some honey, and plenty of money,
Wrapped up in a five-pound note.
The Owl looked up to the stars above,
And sang to a small guitar,
"O lovely Pussy! O Pussy, my love,
What a beautiful Pussy you are,
You are,
You are!
What a beautiful Pussy you are!"

I rest my case m'lud.

And our Youth
Our youth
Are being seduced
By the greedy hands of politics
And half truths

The beaten generation
The beaten generation
Reared on a diet
Of prejudice and misinformation

This is fun Grin

RedToothBrush · 21/06/2018 14:11

I think he goes by the name Alice these days.

RedToothBrush · 21/06/2018 14:01

I think we really should talk about the great poet, Vincent Damon Furnier on this thread.

spontaneousgiventime · 21/06/2018 13:52

ErrolTheDragon Yes, I did think that once I'd hit post. My bad I think.

ErrolTheDragon · 21/06/2018 13:50

Shouldn't the last line of that be 'yet we still get women's gigs?'

TerfsUp · 21/06/2018 13:50

“When I use a word,” Humpty Dumpty said, in rather a scornful tone, “it means just what I choose it to mean—neither more nor less.” “The question is,” said Alice, “whether you can make words mean so many different things.” “The question is,” said Humpty Dumpty, “which is to be master—that's all.”

spontaneousgiventime · 21/06/2018 13:47

The time has come the walrus said
To talk of many things

Of shoes, pouty lips and leg wax,
Of handbags and wigs,
Why the populace fear us so,
Why we don't get women's gigs.

TerfsUp · 21/06/2018 13:40

In just seven days (Oh, baby)
I can make you a man

TerfsUp · 21/06/2018 13:39

I'm just a sweet transvestite

Here's my starter iPad line

The only women who are women

FloralBunting · 21/06/2018 13:32

All mimsy were the borogroves, and the momewraths outgrabe.

ErrolTheDragon · 21/06/2018 13:30

I'm anti trans fats. Cis fats are much more natural and healthy.

I wonder if the suggestions on iPads can be used as a vogonish poetry generator?

BeyondSceptical · 21/06/2018 13:05

My daddy left home when I was three
And he didn't leave much to ma and me
Just this old guitar and an empty bottle of booze.
Now, I don't blame him cause he run and hid
But the meanest thing that he ever did
Was before he left, he went and named me....

UpstartCrow · 21/06/2018 13:04

Maybe OP just needs help with punctuation and we should put CharlieParley on the case.

TerfsUp · 21/06/2018 12:58

One must be so careful these days.

TerfsUp · 21/06/2018 12:57

What are the roots that clutch, what branches grow
Out of this stony rubbish? Son of woman,
You cannot say, or guess, for you know only
Your feelings.

Sciencelogic · 21/06/2018 12:45

Certainhalf
Methinks my poetry I wrote in the days of yore appears to be in the style of Chaucer. Autocorrect just makes it even more obscure better.
Who knew? Grin
