I've never been able to view Erasure in the same way since watching a male cousin rant his hatred of them when they did some song dressed up as the women from Abba. "Ugly bastards poking fun atnbeautiful women" 😂 But what a fantastic songwriter Vince Clarke is.

CaptainBrickbeard I watched Carol Ann Duffy perform the poems from that book a few years ago and she utterly won me over (having not liked her poetry before).

Here she is reading Mrs Tiresias live in St Andrews in 2016.

ScienceLogic, I was sexually active and had told a couple of friends. Someone gossiped and the school decided that a medical examination was an acceptable proposal. This was after a one to one interview in which my headmistress ranted and raged at me for the whole lunch break. Spittle was hitting me in the face. It was bizarre.

My parents made threatening noises. My dad was a very well regarded GP which helped. Talked about slander. The school backed off.

When I think about the damage sexism has done to me over most of my life, I find it very difficult to understand why anyone would say we no longer need feminism.
