Hi all
Delurking briefly to point you all in the direction of the Netflix release of Hannah Gadsby's Nanette - a stand up recorded at the Sidney Opera House. I just watched and she's brilliant. Fiercely feminist, funny, passionate, angry, emotional, and so so smart. I hadn't heard of her before but enjoyed it so much I had to share. Off to lurk again now.

You can watch the trailer on youtube:

Just watched this. Fucking brilliant. Still feeling emotional.

@xbeex that Martha Wainwright song is one of my favourites. It’s so fucking angry. I often sing it in my head when I see men being dicks!

There is nothing stronger than a broken woman who has rebuilt herself

♥️

I am tearing up just trying to write down how moved I was by her story.

xbeex · 02/07/2018 22:34

If there was ever a song to go alongside Hannah's words, it has to be this..

Martha wainwright, bloody mother fucking asshole

Thank you Op.
That was one of the most powerful things I've watched in so long.

I felt pretty shaken up by the end Orange, and haven't stopped thinking about her since. You have no idea where the show will end up when you're chortling away in the first few minutes. It's so brilliantly written and performed

DisturblinglyOrangeScrambleEgg · 29/06/2018 18:26

Right, well, that took a turn.

Still thank you very much OP - even though it's tears of sympathy rather than laughter now.

DisturblinglyOrangeScrambleEgg · 29/06/2018 17:19

I'm halfway through, and have to come back to thank you OP - it's fantastic.

What I enjoy, is that it's funny, but so much of it is through gritted teeth - it's so very, very relatable. I feel like I could sit in silence with a cup of tea with Hannah, and it would be fine, like nothing would need to be said, and we could drink that cuppa, then get up and go on with our days, and we would both be fine with that.

Oh God. Lesbians give feed back, and men have opinions.. I have to stop typing and listen, it's too good.

ChocAuVin · 29/06/2018 16:44

Loved this. Powerful stuff at the end.

Gileswithachainsaw · 29/06/2018 16:44

I watched this yesterday.

Brilliant

Amazing woman and I'm so glad she shared her story. So brave.

So thought provoking

Lottapianos · 29/06/2018 16:42

'I feel I've done a public service by sharing! '

You certainly have Grin I'm spreading the word among friends

dorothymichaels · 29/06/2018 16:37

I feel I've done a public service by sharing! There's another thread on her now. Spread the word people (said in HG's accent!).

I wonder whether she will tour again, or maybe write a book and do a book tour... I would love to see her live.

Just finished watching this, thanks so much for the recommendation. Brilliant, righteous, brave, angry stuff. Incredibly powerful

anametouse · 28/06/2018 18:05

I loved this, so powerful!

ProfessionalBarren · 28/06/2018 18:04

I laughed and then I cried - wow. So much more than I was expecting.

StringandGlitter · 28/06/2018 18:02

Wow just watched this and it is so powerful. I cried when she talked about her experiences. I found her stuff about self-deprecation and freezing trauma inside jokes as well as talking about how toxic shame is and how it has such an impact on your life choices really moving.

I hope this gets out to a wider audience.

Quantumblue · 28/06/2018 13:09

Wow, I just watched this with DD (16). So powerful. My head is full of the things she said.

Waddlelikeapenguin · 26/06/2018 20:13

Thank you so much for the recommendation. This was just amazing. Even having read this thread I did not expect the turning point to be where it was.

Everyone should watch this. And as someone upthread said I want to reach out to her so so much, i am making a mental list of people to share it with.

MrStarkIDontFeelSoGood · 24/06/2018 21:37

Amazing show. So powerful

DuddlePluck · 24/06/2018 21:31

I'd remembered the MN recommendations when I was browsing for something to watch earlier, and SO glad I did - Flowers to OP for bringing it to my attention.

Such an incredibly powerful & poignant performance - at times had me whooping along with her, at others in tears

Like @spontaneousgiventime & @FlippinFuman, stand out line that speaks to both my own story & that of the many of the women I most admire has to be:

There is nothing stronger than a broken woman who has rebuilt herself

WichBitchHarpyTerfThatsMe · 24/06/2018 00:21

Just watched on the OP's recommendation. Brilliant, heartfelt and brutally honest.

The broken woman bit was so fucking true. Some men have no clue about female resilience when they try to take us on.

Going to watch it again with my young teenaged DD.

MorbidMuch · 23/06/2018 21:30

Thanks for the recommendation.

That was very powerful. I did not expect the turn that the performance took, but was compelling. My DH got drawn into it too, which I was pleased to see.
