Why do men think they can just piss anywhere?

We have a bus stop opposite our house, on a green. Today my DS and I were walking across the green and a bus pulled up, a man got off and as soon as the bus drove off he just stood there and had a wee as DS and I walked past!

Why do men think their need to piss is so important that they can just do it in public and we've all got to just put up with it?! He's not the first man that I've seen pissing in full view recently.

It makes me so cross!

Don't ever move to France Wilson, open air peeing is a national sport!

deydododatdodontdeydo · 19/06/2018 08:33

Most men manage to control themselves don't they, so I don't see why the rest can't.
I agree with whoever said it's easier for them, and I love those Belgian style pissoirs, I just wish there was an equivalent for women.

NonSuchFun · 19/06/2018 08:17

Both DD's work at an upmarket family friendly pub. Checking loos and cleaning is part of duties. Both have had men walk in and pee in front of them. Not sure the one who said "Don't mind me" redeemed himself in anyway against the one who didn't bother. I'm outraged they would do that. Tempted to laminate a notice for them to put on the door when they clean advising "female cleaners, don't enter", but it's not really my place to interfere.
And on the other hand they have both had to deal with mothers who have put their toddlers on a potty in the middle of the restaurant. Trust me, I wouldn't hold back if I was seated at the next table. Anyway it makes no sense - presumably they have to go to the loo to empty potty after?
So probably I should calm down and be proud to have two good natured DD's who work hard and are learning excellent customer service and dealing with the unruly public skills.

thebewilderness · 19/06/2018 02:58

I think it just another of the many male dominance displays that we are confronted with every day.

EliseC1965 · 19/06/2018 02:02

Came out of a pub one NYE and some arsehole staggered past and pissed all over my feet! I have never wanted to smack someone so bad.

Just recently on way home from work with wee infection and I had to stop and climb over a gate to pee in a field well away from where anyone could see.

powershowerforanhour · 19/06/2018 01:43

Agree about women caught short making much more effort to hide. And also to be considerate enough to pee close to a grate if they can, or well off the beaten track if out in the wilds. If the walls of an alleyway, or the biggest rocks on a narrow path at a beauty spot are stinking of the stale piss of dozens of people, forcing everyone else who passes that way to be subjected to the stench, it's not the women who have done it.
I think a certain type of bloke believes it to be some sort of marvellous deeprooted instictive alpha male chest thumping territory marking evopsych king of the jungle bollocks thing. It isn't. Some alleyway that you stumbled down while shitfaced, or a lovely nature trail on your holidays that you and hundreds of others might visit on a summer's day aren't your territory. They belong to everyone. You massive selfish entitled idiot.

Because men are like dogs.
A puppy never really grows up
They constantly look for your approval
They stick their nose where it’s not wanted with no encouragement
They whine when they don’t get their own way
They fart like it’s a sport
They often smell
They pant
They like to be let off the leash
And they piss wherever they feel like it cos they can

Choccywoccyhooha · 19/06/2018 01:40

Hhmm, it's vile and they do it because they feel entitled to. In the late-90s I once saw a (now disgraced) male celebrity weeing in the street in Soho. I told him it was vile, but only as it was 2am and I had a lot of Dutch courage, I wouldn't feel so able to had I not been drinking and this is what allows them to do it, they know it is intimidating and that few people will say anything.

AnotherQuoll · 19/06/2018 01:22

Yes, it's not just that they desperately need to pee, there's no loo nearby so they find a discreet spot so no one has to see them. No, they get a kick out of being seen. Because more than about just needing to pee, it's about men being socialised from birth to believe it's masculine and powerful to be defiant, break rules and transgress boundaries. Ever heard one genuinely apologise? Or have you noticed the attitude is "I'll do what I like. And you can't stop me". Imagine being she forty but still pulling the "naughty boy" stunts like this. Pitiful.

stealthsquirrelnutkin · 19/06/2018 00:52

Never mind expensive hydrophobic paint, let's give them some aversion therapy by electrifying alley walls. I've seen a dog pee on an electric fence wire, that was an experience he never forgot.

WilsonPhillips · 19/06/2018 00:30

I don't think I'd mind as much if they went for their al fresco pisses somewhere that they can't be seen. It's the blatant 'I need a piss and I'm having one NOW and YOU can watch' attitude that makes me so angry.

The man today that got off the buss literally just stood there next to the bus stop pissing. He saw DS and I had seen him and just smirked.

This drives me insane. Did a trip to Bruges recently. They have those public urinals where men stand behind a screen but you can see their legs. I had a massive rant about men being treated as toddlers who are incapable of thinking ahead or controlling themselves. This was in an area with masses of bars so plenty of available private toilets.

When I was in Brussels, at 9pm I came to use a public loo. The women's loo was shut and locked, the disabled loo was shut and locked, but the gents was still open. I'd just had a coil fit and had a slightly irritated uterus and a pelvis full of lidocaine, I was not happy. I'm actually going to copy this onto the male privilege thread.

Tiggerzz · 19/06/2018 00:22

Loving the idea of hydrophobic paint Grin

Herbalteahippie · 19/06/2018 00:11

YANBU- today I saw a dad let his preteen kid piss next to their car, parked outside an open McDonald’s. Grrrrrr

thebewilderness · 19/06/2018 00:10

Outside bars and pubs urine pools are such a problem that some municipalities are installing hydrophobic paint and signs warning the wall piss back.

Tiggerzz · 19/06/2018 00:09

Men were stood about pissing into the mud at Leeds Festival last year, in full view of everyone. It was vile. My OH gets really pissy (if you'll excuse the pun!) if we're out and he needs to go, he seems to think it's a great injustice if he can't go Right There And Then.

Spitting in the street is absolutely vile and I hate men who do this. They'll often look really aggressively at you whilst doing it in a kind of 'what are you gonna do about it?' way. And I am too intimidated to say anything Sad

FlyingMonkeys · 19/06/2018 00:04

Child in question looked about 4yrs old. Dd at that age would have been mortified if I'd suggested she pulled down her underwear to wee in public. Amplified by fact that there was a petrol station 200m away with a public toilet in it. I don't think I've ever seen a young girl vs a young boy encouraged to wee outside by a parent. I think it's a far more 'accepted' thing in society that little boys are allowed to 'have a quick wee if they must' by parents. Obviously as an adult it's a very different situation but still.

Ummmmgogo · 19/06/2018 00:03

I think it's more the practicalities. if I could wee standing up I would outdoor wee more frequently.

ItsNotUnusualToBe · 19/06/2018 00:01

Free range cocks. Literally and metaphorically

Or is that transphobic?

LemonysSnicket · 19/06/2018 00:01

And friends of mine (male) always wonder why I wish to use the loo in the place we're leaving before I go ... because if I squatted on a street I'm sure I'd be arrested or offend the surrounding area!

LemonysSnicket · 19/06/2018 00:00

A man pissed next to me at the bus stop at 8.30am the other week. Clearly v drunk, luckily another man, maybe 19, told him to stop being such a disgrace and stood between us.

AssassinatedBeauty · 18/06/2018 23:51

I think young children who are in the toilet training phase are not relevant to this. It's a short phase when you might be in that situation, and you see as many girls being helped to have a wee as boys. Once they're reliable then there is the expectation that they can wait. I don't think it's common at al for parents to allow older children to do this.

Crunched · 18/06/2018 23:48

I drove past a mum assisting her young DS having a wee against a bush next to a bus stop the other week. Guessing he'll grow up thinking it's ok.
Exactly this.
I have the same wee-ing in public rules for DS as for DD.

WraithTess · 18/06/2018 23:47

Ugh this habit is gross. Urinating in public is not ok. I hate seeing people spit in public too. The other one I've seen is watching people blow their nose into their hands and then wiping it on stuff. Extremely gross

WilsonPhillips · 18/06/2018 23:41

So many men, including my DH seem to have the sense of entitlement to piss wherever they want. If we're out and DH needs a wee he'll get really moody and keeps saying 'I'm DYING for a piss' as if no one else ever needs the loo.
