3 strikes and you're out

spontaneousgiventime · 18/06/2018 13:33

Sorry to start this thread but I'm livid. I'm beyond livid to be fair.

I'm now on strike two and have been warned my posting privilege is at risk.

The reason for this thread is; please don't take the new guidelines at face value. I got a strike today for calling a man who presents as a woman a name NOT on the banned list. Obviously now I can't say what it was, I am effectively gagged.

I now have six weeks of no free speech until the strikes I have are wiped - again effectively gagged.

So, you won't see me much as I will NOT refer to men who present as women as the names we are allowed to call them, so will end up banned. I will post bland banal comments that can't offend any sensibilities here and let rip elsewhere where free speech is encouraged.

PLEASE, please, watch your words or MN will use this as a reason the close the FWR board.

Y'know what Maryz - I wonder if it is a sneaky plan to get rid off all of us 1000-posts-to-a-page posters...?

AngryAttackKittens · 18/06/2018 14:30

I would also suggest that everyone pay close attention to situations where they're being goaded in the hopes of producing a comment that can be reported for deletion. Don't take the bait.

ROwan - I read your earlier post and was very sorry to hear about your past health issues.

I very much appreciate you being around here and tend to think of you as the MN house librarian.Smile

stealthsquirrelnutkin · 18/06/2018 14:28

Is there a process for appealing against deletions/strikes that are obviously wrong?

I've seen some of the posts that got deleted (not here obviously since it would be impossible to repost them on mumsnet without risking getting deleted/struck/banned/shunned/silenced) and they did not contravene the stated guidelines.

It seems posters are at the mercy of moderators who are in some cases extremely biased and misusing their power.

Bi11yOneMate · 18/06/2018 14:28

Lurker reporting for duty, Ma'am!

I'm not as eloquent as the usual posters though but will do my best.

UpstartCrow · 18/06/2018 14:28

So its only 3 strikes and you're out for some people and not others?

I may be wrong, but I am under the impression that moderation at the weekends is different.

Terfulike · 18/06/2018 14:26

This is crazy. They seem to be deliberately taking out the most experienced and avid posters.

This means that, when trans people post with weak and ill-informed arguments, there will be fewer experienced and knowledgeable posters here to demonstrate the irrationality of their arguments with sound and detailed knowledge of laws etc.

So newcomers to these issues will be swayed by not having the arguments presented to them in a coherant way.

No offence to relative newcomers (I am one), but these issues are complex and you need time to take it all in and process it all both intellectually and emotionally.

We need those posters because this site has become a go-to for the newly peak transed who need to hear both sides of the argument presented.

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 18/06/2018 14:26

If they treat someone who's been posting her since the Jurassic era like Maryz (sorry Maryz but ykwim?) in the same way as some goady fuckwit who only joined because they hate women and want to show that to everyone on the Internet then I'd say it's gone FUBAR.

@GhostTess (& yes I am deliberately using this device)

I would be grateful if you read and considered my post on this thread at Mon 18-Jun-18 14:16:56

Brew, Spontaneous. We're all going to need it!

spontaneousgiventime · 18/06/2018 14:24

I know I've been a strong advocate for the new forum but please, please sign up. DM me and I'll give you all the details. It's breaking my heart I may lose contact with some of you.

I mean you can refuse to talk about things. That's your right obviously. But it seems an odd thing for a discussion forum

BeyondSceptical · 18/06/2018 14:24

Clue - if your fertility is tested by wanking in a cup, you're not female.

Well thank fuck for you...

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 18/06/2018 14:22

FWIW I'm going to try to start threads about Other Things in FWR so we can still use it as a place to stay and chat and be connected and share ideas, even if we're trying not to get permabanned.
FWR used to have loads of threads about many and varied topics and to a lesser extent it still does.
My understanding of gender politics is largely thanks to these random threads here, and before FWR even, when MNers used to debate about stuff like porn and housework and I learnt so much.
So I hope it doesn't seem like defeat if I, as a cunty woman, post a lot of random feministy things.
It's just me trying to keep the space going, in my own way.
I don't really understand how not to get banned, at the moment, as the statement was a bit vague with 'might' etc.

Flowers Flowers Flowers spontaneous

Please keep posting - I hear what you say and it seems appropriate to guard your words for the next six weeks, however unfair this is - We so want to hear what you are saying

I am hoping that mumsnet will review their policy in six weeks or less and will be analysing what is happening on this forum - and elsewhere - to see both what GF appear and how they report and how women are being silenced.....

At some stage Justine will be deciding what to do about the biggest issue affection women and girls today .... I cannot believe she is not GC - but do understand that she might fear the commercial repercussions if she is not super careful in protecting her business - and indeed mumsnet for the use of all of us .... She must be getting darn-good extremely expensive legal advice at the mo.... So far we have been good for mumsnet with all the brilliant publicity about how they are supporting women and girls - now she is having to fork out - and she'll be reflecting on how and what to do next....

AngryAttackKittens · 18/06/2018 14:21

So, since it seems like things may be heating up today and it's clear that some prominent commenters are being targeted, can I make a request? It's possible that a lot of the regulars will be suspended shortly. So far it looks like the 3 strikes rule may only apply to GC commenters and may not be being applied to trans activists.

That means that we need the former lurkers to step up now. If the names that you're used to seeing vanish, others will need to take their place. Get ready, everyone - it's most likely going to get worse before it gets better.

GhostTess · 18/06/2018 14:21

Hah, good one AngryAttackKittens but that wasn't what I said I'd quote from the original post but I too am afraid of the banhammer.

But it's hard to have a real conversation here. I mean, there's me on this side and how many of you in that one? It's honestly tough to keep up. Of all the posts I saw in that thread there was one who agreed and everyone else did not.

It's no longer a discussion when people are unwilling to actually discuss things.

TerfsUp · 18/06/2018 14:21

Sorry to hear the news, Spontaneous. That is truly sad.

I will not be engaging with ghost on any thread, ever. Same with other derailers.

My philosophy is "don't get in the mud with the pig. You'll only get dirty and the pig will enjoy it".

(No offence meant to pigs, who are clever animals.)

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 18/06/2018 14:19

OMG MaryZ not you too!

R0wantrees · 18/06/2018 14:16

GhostTess

I was briefly on the thread you refer to (which is closed because it has reached the maximun capacity of 1000 posts.

I would like to make this comment:

I was diagnosed with gyny cancer during treatment for fertility issues.

The total hysterectomy that I had was neccessary to save my life.

I am both an infertile woman and a woman without a uterus, cervix, ovaries (and a few other parts of my anatomy.)

My (male) partner and I will both be unable to be parents as a consequence. We share this sadness.

The specific consequences for me with regards the medical intervention are uniquely female.

I find it upsetting and uncivil when this is appropriated with so little empathy.

AngryAttackKittens · 18/06/2018 14:16

For anyone who may be confused, people reporting a commenter for saying unkind things about infertile women and twisting what other people were saying is not brigading. Tons of trans activists coming to this site with the intent of shutting down conversations? That's brigading.
