3 strikes and you're out

Sorry to start this thread but I'm livid. I'm beyond livid to be fair.

I'm now on strike two and have been warned my posting privilege is at risk.

The reason for this thread is; please don't take the new guidelines at face value. I got a strike today for calling a man who presents as a woman a name NOT on the banned list. Obviously now I can't say what it was, I am effectively gagged.

I now have six weeks of no free speech until the strikes I have are wiped - again effectively gagged.

So, you won't see me much as I will NOT refer to men who present as women as the names we are allowed to call them, so will end up banned. I will post bland banal comments that can't offend any sensibilities here and let rip elsewhere where free speech is encouraged.

PLEASE, please, watch your words or MN will use this as a reason the close the FWR board.

We gotta plan Xmas now maryz - I don't think we'll be around in the autumn to do it Grin

Maryzsnewaccount · 18/06/2018 14:54

GhostTess had at least three deletions on the last Spartacus thread, why are they not banned?

No Christmas

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 18/06/2018 14:54

FWIW the adoption process in the UK is pretty rigorous and starts with the best interests of the child. There are also lots of approved adopters waiting for children and therefore it's quite competitive. This means a child is usually placed with whichever set of prospective parents are best placed to meet that child's needs.

This may be reassuring for anyone with...questions.

Beamur · 18/06/2018 14:52

There was a great exchange of jam and cake recipes on a thread last night which was a very constructive way of refusing to engage with a poster who had just come on to goad.
It was funny too.

R0wantrees · 18/06/2018 14:52

GhostTess
With respect, our experiences are not the same. Please do not claim they are.

BeyondSceptical · 18/06/2018 14:51

Yy aak. Mentally drawing a line under That Poster now.

AngryAttackKittens · 18/06/2018 14:50

I'd say think of it this way - some people tell you very early on exactly who they are. Once you know that, you also know how much their opinion is worth.

BeyondSceptical · 18/06/2018 14:50

Mumsnet is now the place for [ACRONYMs] to compare themselves to infertile women.

I'll start the slow clap...

BlackeyedSusan · 18/06/2018 14:50

FWIW I'm going to try to start threads about Other Things in FWR so we can still use it as a place to stay and chat and be connected and share ideas, even if we're trying not to get permabanned.

does that mean we get to talk about Christmas? now?

GhostTess · 18/06/2018 14:49

HalfDesertedStreets,

No Australia, but the adoption process is long, arduous and expensive

stealthsquirrelnutkin · 18/06/2018 14:48

Under these unfair rules it makes sense to hop over posts by provocative arseholes without bothering to read them. It will keep the shitstains out of your head, and save you from being provoked into responding and getting banned.

Mumsnet lacks a block or mute feature, so you have to do it yourself. After the first couple of moronic goady posts you recognise them for what they are, and after that you can save time and energy by not reading anything else posted by that person.

I agree with Spontaneous that the new forum is the place for unbridled conversation.

BesmirchingMotherhood · 18/06/2018 14:47

The thought of some poor traumatised kid having to call mum someone it can clearly see is a man sickens me.

Maryzsnewaccount · 18/06/2018 14:46

More fucking references to infertility and adoption.

This is ok, MNHQ? This is what you want? This is the way you want your site to be seen by everyone outside it?

Men telling women to shut up. Men telling women how to manage their bodies. Men minimising women's problems. Men belittling women for infertility.

This is all ok, and referring to men as being men, and male, isn't?

AngryAttackKittens · 18/06/2018 14:46

More goading. They want us angry enough to say something MNHQ can ban us for.

BeyondSceptical · 18/06/2018 14:45

Infertile woman, eh? That appears to contradict your introductory post.

🤐

"we want to allow everyone to express their opinions on this issue"

Bollocks do they.

There are no guidelines that are possible to follow accurately, just lots of "probably"s and "maybe"s and "likely"s and "depends on how many reports we get"s.

We are three days in. I doubt any of the regular posters will be here by this day next week.

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 18/06/2018 14:43

Afford adoption?!!

You're in the US then? Thanks for stopping by to visit us here. Are there no women you can annoy more locally?

ItsNachoCheese · 18/06/2018 14:41

The way i see it through my 26yr old eyes is if you have a uterus, ovaries etc you are a woman.
If you have a penis and testicles you are a man

This is the relevant part of the email I received today. I would post the whole bloody thing but it contains the reason I was banned so would be banning myself by posting it as I would post the offending part.

"We know you'll be disappointed with our decision, but while we want to allow everyone to express their opinions on this issue, it's important that the debate remains civil and constructive. We'd be really grateful if you could post within the guidelines from now on. We have already deleted one of your posts under the new guidelines so we just wanted to remind you to take care with your posts. Under the new rules, after a third strike we will automatically suspend posting abilities, so we just wanted to make sure you were aware."

spontaneous

Welcome to the "2 strikes club".

Glad I'm in good company though

LastTrainEast · 18/06/2018 14:33

As I understand it the banned list was a guideline. Someone will consider each word you use and decide on the spot if they don't like it. If they don't then you will get a strike.
That means there is no way to be sure of being safe except by keeping quiet in the first place.

Rather like taking down speed limit signs and instead letting whichever police officer was on duty decide if your driving looked fast to them.

Especially effective as you may have used the word/phrase several times before someone reports it and then you get all three strikes together.

R0wantrees · 18/06/2018 14:32

Thanks Scarlet, I was very fortunate in being diagnosed by chance at an early stage. I only share my circumstances because I am acutely aware of how many other women have similar experiences, often with worse outcomes than mine.

You're also not far off the truth given my background in English literature!! Grin
