Boys prioritised over girls - again

I've seen fears expressed here before that new trans policies in schools will marginalise religious girls, and this blog seems to confirm this - girls will be removed from PE with the new rules in Glamorgan.

The fourth witness, a councillor, appears to put it best - the feelings of the boys who self identify as girls will be prioritised over the safety of the girls. It's the girls who will be asked to leave if they object to this new policy.

It's on Monday not Sunday that's my mistake

Pratchet · 16/06/2018 14:56

Timelady can you email? The meeting is tomorrow

BettyDuMonde · 16/06/2018 14:21

That’s two reasonable Labour voices in the press in two days. Here and over the Cancer research dropping of the word woman.

‘Impact assessment’ is what we need for everything. Absolutely everything.

TimeLady · 16/06/2018 13:05

I'm going to send this Glamorgan article to my county councillor with responsibility for education, copying in my MP and local councillors as well. I've been pondering over this for some time as it's all too easy to be dismissed as a ranting transphobe if you try to explain it yourself. But the case against and concerns of parents are clearly set out in that article.

All I need to ask is for a reassurance that such proposals are not in the pipeline here. Nothing bigoted, ranting or controversial about that.

I think we need to get back to reality and trans kids expectation in regards to what transitioning means in real terms, not rainbow fairy unicorn world.

If you feel your in the wrong body and want to change to the other gender, you can do so by changing your hair and clothes, the things you do and the way you act. But you will still be the biological sex you were born underneath and so you will still have to use the changing room, toilets that belong to your biological sex, and you'll still compete in sport with your biological sex. You can't join girl guides or other girl only organisation if your biologically a boy. If you want to change on your own, the school can accommodate that, if you don't want to do sport fine. And when your older you can have surgery to change your outer sex organs, but as your biological sex remains the same there will be some restrictions when it comes to sex segregation.

Telling kids they can change their hair and like magic they're the opposite sex is causing issues, because those kids grow up and then can't understand why there are limits on them, as they are not actually the opposite sex.

Ereshkigal · 16/06/2018 10:36

Also doesn't Stephen Doughty think any opposition to the transagenda is hate?

ErrolTheDragon · 16/06/2018 10:31

You're right timo; in practice though, it seems that transgirls are more likely to want to use the girls' facilities than transboys are to want to use the boys'.

There's one thing which is worse than oppressing a minority, and that's oppressing a majority.

TimeLady · 16/06/2018 10:27

The transmen/boys have been given a free pass so far in all of this; they can use their biological female pass as and when it suits them.

I'd be interested to know the % of self-ID'd transmen/boys who actually use male facilities.

LassWiADelicateAir · 16/06/2018 10:25

I like the way he puts that: "potential competing equality strands"

Cllr Sivagnanam is a woman.

Oh and the thread title is appalling- a father of a boy spoke up about his concerns about his son. Other parents raised concerns about their children.

Timomax · 16/06/2018 10:19

This is all such nonsense. People shouldn't be made to change with anyone else they feel uncomfortable with. This includes single gender group changing rooms. This isn't prioritising boys over girls.. really sexist title. It's prioritising one over the many.

SporadicSpartacus · 16/06/2018 10:12

@TimeLady, it’s an interesting suggestion.

Sure, feminists are meant to be there for women, but should that mean all women in all circumstances?

I see trans men a bit like any other socially conservative female group (pro-lifers, religious gender role supporters etc) - they might be decent people under the politics, but their actions harm women overall. While they will always be female, I am not sure we need to expend energy fighting for their rights when they’re actively undermining us at every step.

So yeah, in the boys room with you. There’s a difference between throwing someone under a bus and not stopping someone who is hellbent on leaping under the wheels themselves.

Pratchet · 16/06/2018 10:12

It's one guy Ian Johnson who pushed it forward. There seems to be quite a bit of hesitation actually. See the comment at the bottom of this link

Go Wales. Fight this off. Cymru am byth.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 16/06/2018 10:11

A lot of vigorous resistance to the Transgender Toolkit in the meeting, I'm pleased to note.

I was struck by this: Cllr Sivagnanam – who works Labour MP Stephen Doughty asks “Has there been an equality impact assessment carried out in this scenario which takes into account the potential competing equality strands and protected characteristics, in this case sex and self-identifying transgender?”

I like the way he puts that: "potential competing equality strands". This is what's missing in the analysis of all the political parties, that women's equality has to be considered. Also I don't think many politicians have considered that no other "human rights" lobby specifically removes rights from another disadvantaged group.

Ereshkigal · 16/06/2018 10:07

Oh interesting Pratchet. Was TRA Allsorts maybe the gender advisory group for this?

Pratchet · 16/06/2018 10:06

This here silencing

Boys prioritised over girls - again
Pratchet · 16/06/2018 10:06

Look at the silencing. Sounds like feminists have a strong voice down there in Glamorgan. Well done Penarth Times for picking up on it.

Boys prioritised over girls - again
Pratchet · 16/06/2018 10:04

Looks like Anne Greagsby has set up a group to challenge Allsorts and has called it Allsorts Alliance.

TimeLady · 16/06/2018 10:03

Just thinking aloud...

It's always about the boys in the girls' changing rooms, isn't it?

I do wonder if girls, who are now identifying as boys, were compelled to use the boys' changing rooms, whether this would cause the public outrage that is necessary to call an end to this crap.

I KNOW that would be throwing those girls under the bus, and it's not 'right', but if they're old enough to decide they want to change their gender, then they're old enough to understand and accept the consequences. However, at least they have a choice, which is more than their non-regendering sisters have atm.

Who knows, it might even encourage some to defer the decision until they've left school if it makes it a less attractive option/current fad.

Pratchet · 16/06/2018 09:59

Yes: allsorts youth project are the pro trans while Allsorts Alliance are pro-science. Clever move Mrs Anne Greagsby despite the pro-trans effort to silence you.

Lysistrataknowsherstuff · 16/06/2018 09:57

Hackgal, x post. My apologies if they're allied with Mermaids, Allsots aren't one I've heard of before!

OP posts:
Lysistrataknowsherstuff · 16/06/2018 09:54

Erishkgal, it sounds like they're gender critical and not supportive of the council.

OP posts:
hackmum · 16/06/2018 09:51

No, Allsorts are allied with Mermaids.

Ereshkigal · 16/06/2018 09:47

I'm confused about this Allsorts group. They appear to be gender critical? Not like the transactivist one?

SuitedandBooted · 16/06/2018 09:47

Endorsed by Stonewall Cymru, so no surprises there.
I will be sharing that letter, and emailing it to my MP, as it clearly shows what these changes will mean for real children.

AngryAttackKittens · 16/06/2018 09:45

I have a cat. Can I teach vets?
