They support ALL women don’t forget.

There is more. mobile.twitter.com/MunroeBergdorf?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthor

And the response is overwhelmingly critical. The BFI have seriously cocked up here Smile

Biologically male transpeople have no business taking places intended for women.
Biologically male people aren’t women.

Especially as the whole purpose was to promote women who suffer as a result of sexism, which is something perpetrated by men.

I mean, come ON, BFI. Think!!!!

IfNot · 16/06/2018 12:09

God. I'm appalled at the BFI. The film industry is one the THE hardest for women to succeed in. Women are accepted at the lower levels (to do all the boring admin and organising) but are often not taken seriously on the creative or technical sides. For every high earning lighting director is a wife looking after his kids when he is off on location or doing 16 hour days.
Funding for the film industry has suffered a lot in recent years and that always impacts female centered initiatives.
But they can't find ONE filmmaker who will have actual experience of how damn hard she has had to work and fight to get there??
So they ask a non film making..model?
Fucking Hell.

UnnecessaryFennel · 16/06/2018 11:53

I think it's because what / who she is now is flavour du jour. And good for publicity

So, you agree they don't have any actual qualifications for the role? You just support them doing it because, publicity?

Interesting.

SupermatchGame · 16/06/2018 11:45

I don't think they would prefer 'a man' at all. I think it's because what / who she is now is flavour du jour. And good for publicity.

CircleSquareCircleSquare · 16/06/2018 11:39

A mention of everything apart from sex and sexism in those tweets because said tweeter does not experience either of those in the same way and cunty women.

ChattyLion · 16/06/2018 11:26

I can’t imagine this thread has long to live, so while we are here there was an brilliant comment on the petition site:

When asked to find a woman filmmaker for this event they decided on a person who is a) not a woman and b) not a film maker. This is how desperate they are not not give women a voice. Lucky that Munroe was available or they would have had to just tape a camera to a mannequin.

Grin so very true! (sadly)

UnnecessaryFennel · 16/06/2018 11:24

Why, SMG? What qualifications does Munroe Bergdorf have for this role? As far as I can see, absolutely none at all?

Serfisafleur · 16/06/2018 11:17

Predictable, rather than interesting.

SupermatchGame · 16/06/2018 11:08

no she's missed age as well actually. Interesting again though.

SupermatchGame · 16/06/2018 11:07

I support Munroe and her right to do this role.

But it is interesting that she mentions every protected characteristic except 'sex'.

Ereshkigal · 16/06/2018 10:59

This is absolute nonsense. No one can be excluded from feminism. No one can stop anyone, male or female, from volunteering, donating, or talking about the disadvantage that women suffer at the hands of men.

But of course that's not it, it's redefining the meaning of the word feminism, along with all the other words. To centre men, not women.

Exactly. That's what they mean.

Datun · 16/06/2018 10:55

That Lisa Muggeriridge post is strong.

I'm not on Twitter, but as far as I know, she was relentlessly targetted by transactactivists. If memory serves, her family were also got at.

Her analysis is spot on. She's angry, she's smart, she's articulate and she's fearless.

Everyone knows, full well, that when Munroe tells women to stop talking about women's issues, it's because they lack both the requisite credentials and the experience to be considered an authentic 'expert'.

And it doesn't fit in with the narrative of being most oppressed people on the planet. So must not be born. Shutting women down and shutting them up is a typical display of masculinity.

When women question what it is exactly that they are meant to be excluding transwomen from, they are generally told it's feminism.

This is absolute nonsense. No one can be excluded from feminism. No one can stop anyone, male or female, from volunteering, donating, or talking about the disadvantage that women suffer at the hands of men.

Feminism does not need to include everyone. FFS. It needs to include all women - by that I mean, all XX, cunty, potentially-child-bearing humans. The biological class generally known as women.

Feminism is simply not about the rights or representation of XY, be-penised, impregnating humans, however they identify, behave, present, call themselves or modify their bodies. They can have their own movement(s) and spaces, they bloody should, but stay the fuck out of women’s spaces.*

^ THIS, on a tee shirt, a coaster, a meme, set to music as an anthem, and the official slogan of this board!

Kettlepotblackagain · 16/06/2018 10:34

It really is.

I think in parts it’s because GC feminists have given others ‘permission’ to say what bollocks it is, when that’s what they were already thinking but too scared to say.

The tide is absolutely turning on this isn't it?

Lottapianos · 16/06/2018 10:22

Yet another 'women! You're doing feminism all wrong!' load of shite from someone who shoukd just clear off. It's so heartening that there has been a big outcry about this

PlectrumElectrum · 16/06/2018 10:20

Agreed, she's brilliant at this stuff. Wish I was as articulate.

LangCleg · 16/06/2018 10:19

I like Lisa for the way she relates everything back to social policy and equality and safeguarding frameworks. So she can tie in austerity and transactivism to the same impulse - the not-marginalised wanting something, claiming it because they're not-marginalised and can, but ignoring all those equality and safeguarding frameworks and thus generating crisis.

Once you latch on that she sees austerity and transactivism as two different manifestations of the same thing, it's exactly what she says it is - a Where's Wally picture. Once you've seen Wally, you can't unsee him.

PlectrumElectrum · 16/06/2018 10:18

These individuals who have zero self awareness, have absolutely no shame in taking spaces and places intended for women - when we know there's a women cast aside to enable this nonsense. It's such a male thing to do - rock up far less qualified than a woman & have zero shame in taking something that isn't for you, you aren't qualified for & have no business being involved in. Men have been doing this forever. They're now getting woke cookies for it.

Utter narcissistic twat.

TransplantsArePlants · 16/06/2018 10:12

Gosh my dander is up.

TERFragetteCity · 16/06/2018 10:10

Yes. She is amazing. Right on point every time.

NotTerfNorCis · 16/06/2018 10:10

Well said @noeffing. We've already seen loads of examples of transwomen being called up to represent women. It might be a fad... but it might not be.

TransplantsArePlants · 16/06/2018 10:08

Was it Lisa M who was at the meeting in London on Weds?
