They support ALL women don’t forget.

There is more. mobile.twitter.com/MunroeBergdorf?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthor

And the response is overwhelmingly critical. The BFI have seriously cocked up here Smile

Is this, er, call to action (involving confusion between a mental health issue vs normal female body physical events Hmm) meant to be Munroe’s ‘response’ to not speaking at an event as advertised? What’s that all about. How weird and overly stage managed. With the posed photo and all.
Why not address the no show issue directly? Why was a photo portrait needed?
Confused

Mogleflop · 19/06/2018 21:47

(By "they" I mean Munroe and supporters - bloody pronouns messing things up everywhere!)

Mogleflop · 19/06/2018 21:47

I'm mildly surprised that they haven't done the mental health and bullying tweets.

Ereshkigal · 19/06/2018 21:39

How predictable. Doubling down.

Kettlepotblackagain · 19/06/2018 21:00

They're back baby!

I see Bergdorf has Tweeted about Refugee week. Still silence on the BFI matter.

Transplants you can use they, them, their as well as the individual's name, if pronouns are causing you concern.

TransplantsArePlants · 17/06/2018 20:50

By the way, my wording above was chosen through gritted teeth. Just imagine woman with inverted commas around it

TransplantsArePlants · 17/06/2018 20:43

And you are, MB.

TransplantsArePlants · 17/06/2018 20:42

I actually agree with you in part. MB was chosen because she's made herself into the Acceptable Face of Womanhood. And who decides what that is? Men.

And she decides it's OK for her to do that and fuck over women (when she wasn't even born a woman) precisely because she's not a woman.

I agree MB is probably suffering distress. MB will think: 'I'm nice, why can't yoube nice". As a man people were not nice to her and now they are nice to her. She's more acceptable (to MEN and some women who buy into the bravery narrative) as a created women than she was as a man

But

Everybody hurts. Don't fuck us over because of your distress. And you are MB

ResistanceIsNecessary · 17/06/2018 20:37

Still, distress is distress whatever the cause and that’s not nice for anyone to suffer. I don’t wish MB ill, despite their behaviour. WTGLWGH.

Agree. I wouldn't want harm to come to anyone. I do wish though that certain activist groups would acknowledge that debate and critical thinking does not equate to "literal violence".

Cwenthryth · 17/06/2018 20:06

Oh I don’t disagree that the silence is most likely manipulative in order to blame women for any distress MB is suffering.

However, MB probably is suffering distress. Due to the cognitive dissonance necessary to maintain their worldview. That’s reality’s fault, women are simply pointing it out, I don’t feel guilty - we’re just the messengers. Still, distress is distress whatever the cause and that’s not nice for anyone to suffer. I don’t wish MB ill, despite their behaviour. WTGLWGH.

Amy Desir said on Twitter, we need to make it easy to do the right thing.

PositivelyPERF · 17/06/2018 19:33

I'm concerted this silence is quite a manipulative tactic.

Oh absolutely. There will be a cryptic post about feeling bullied, mental health and taking a break. Then there will be a lot of ‘nasty terfs’ ‘you’re so stunning/brave bla bla bla’, then back to square one. Seen it all too often with others.

ResistanceIsNecessary · 17/06/2018 19:31

Presumably social media silence will be broken shortly with an explanation of how upsetting it was to be "bullied" etc.

It makes me rather cross because Munroe has a fantastic platform and could use it as a force for good. It is entirely possible to campaign for trans acceptance and understanding without demanding women's rights and protections as part of the deal. It is entirely possible to ask people to think about being more inclusive but not hector women about their understandable and justifiable refusal to accept self-ID because of the consequences for sex-segregated spaces.

The tweet about a limited time left to live is a great example of this. Munroe took the tweet out of context; had the full explanation been given it would have explained that the study the number was taken from included South America, where a high proportion of trans people are engaged in prostitution - which demonstrably raises the risk of being killed or seriously injured.

However Munroe made the number all about Munroe and the context makes the tweet rather tone deaf; trans prostitutes in the Americas in extreme poverty versus privileged celebrity model and activist in the UK.

One can only hope that Munroe is using this period of social media silence as a time for reflection and self-awareness. Experience would suggest that this is unlikely.

Kettlepotblackagain · 17/06/2018 19:13

Oh please. 🙄 Bergdorf doesn’t give a shit about women and is happy to dish out abuse, so I’m sure bergdorf will be absolutely fine. Do you think Bergdorf was feeling guilty about the woman that Bergdorf told to get her head out of her arse? 😒

I'm afraid I agree. I have no sympathy either.

I hope Bergdorf is OK. Seems to me that the BFI put Bergdorf’s wellbeing at unnecessary risk in their quest for media attention/woke cookies.

BFI do have some responsibility in this, but Munroe could have declined the invitation. I don't see Munroe's supporters expressing any concern for the women displaced by Munroe's appointment; what about their wellbeing?

Munroe's "wellbeing" should not be compromised by being told the truth - a fact which Munroe should be particularly aware of given Munroe's vocal activism on cultural appropriation and racism.

However it seems that Munroe's concerns about appropriation do not extend to the sphere of taking women's spaces and claiming their lived experience.

BettyDuMonde · 17/06/2018 15:57

Another instance where no one ‘wins’ and more hurt occurs.

SupermatchGame · 17/06/2018 15:54

No she was chosen because she is an attractive trans woman and currently a fashionable media topic.

Her twitter looks as though it has been quiet now for 2 days I wonder what has happened.

MistressDeeCee · 17/06/2018 15:44

Munroe Bergdorf was chosen because she was once a man. She has that privilege and status

Nothing more nothing less.

SporadicSpartacus · 17/06/2018 15:41

If we’re going to use existing labelling guidance:

Female style
Female flavour

Ie when your product doesn’t have the required % of the names ingredient, allowing such monstrosities as chicken flavour noodles that are vegetarian safe

superbstarling · 17/06/2018 15:36

How about "Faux female"?

Cwenthryth · 17/06/2018 15:18

‘Transfemin/masculine’ also legitimises the presupposition that a man cannot be feminine/woman cannot be masculine in the first place.
