Shere Hite

She changed my life

Cwenthryth · 16/06/2018 17:57

barnercharmer did you go to one of her eco talks last year? I saw her on that speaking tour, lovely evening, but I agree I’d love to hear her speak on current feminist politics.... specifically not transgenderism as she’s clearly not interested in talking about that, but perhaps on her update of The Change, on how older women are treated, or a broader topic, maybe her thoughts on how has the position of women in our society changed (or not) since she published the Female Eunuch, compare & contrast, what has women’s lib/feminism done well in her view and where/how are we failing?

There’s a long interview with her on C4 YouTube - the one that generated the controversial rape-is-just-a-fuck clickbait that I fell for which is well worth a watch.

Magdalen Berns.

pachyderm · 15/06/2018 23:01

Polynerd · 15/06/2018 22:51

Mhairi. Don't agree with much of her politics, but what a woman.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 15/06/2018 22:29

Can you ever get to the Vancouver women's library, mancheeze?

mancheeze · 15/06/2018 22:27

I want to hear Meghan Murphy cuz she's a Canuck like me and I'll prolly get my wish, sooooo,

I wanna hear more black women take down transville. I got a taste with that one video but I want more.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 15/06/2018 22:23

Dale spender, angela davis or Marilyn Frye.

I'm smug at having met 5 of the women listed above.

It's always worth the effort to get to a talk or a meeting. I once had to get special permission from my homeless hostel in order to go to a feminism in London conference. Well worth it.

Kettlepotblackagain · 15/06/2018 22:20

Germaine Greer over here too

NoseringGirl · 15/06/2018 22:18

Germaine Greer and Magdalen Burns. I could listen to them both for hours. Such intelligent and engaging women. I find the way they speak and their confidence so inspiring. Very different women but they have that confidence and charisma in common.

PointlessTV · 15/06/2018 21:56
