New guidelines - we aren't allowed to refer to natal sex

According to KateMumsnet:

"We also thought it might be useful to clarify our thinking about general terms for trans people. Having said that TIM is not okay, it seems a bit illogical to allow other terms which hang upon natal sex."

Well that's that really, isn't it.

We are all being told to pretend that men have become women.

Am I going to be deleted/banned for this post?

Ok, maybe my heading should be "when talking about trans issues we aren't allowed to refer to natal sex".

Higher standards for FWR, obviously.

We can say what we like on AIBU, but let's not upset men in the feminism section.

If a male being called a male is offensive to him, then I suggest he seeks counseling and stop navel gazing so much! We ALL get called things we don't like - what makes them so damn special? 😡

Hideandgo · 14/06/2018 12:16

LastGirl, do you think you’re being funny?

I didn’t read it that way at all. She is talking, as she said, about terms for trans people which hang upon natal sex. It’s pretty obvious why those terms for trans people are offensive.

But don’t let that get in the way of a good outrage fest.

I think we could rename it GenderNet.

Some Forum suggestions:

-Gestation
-Chestfeeding
-Gender chat
-Gender activism
-Gender Theory
etc

The "women's health" forum will have to go - that's transphobic.

Mumsnet Campaigns will need a complete overhaul. This thread - www.mumsnet.com/Talk/mumsnet_campaigns/3211564-MNHQ-here-the-impact-of-birth-on-womens-bodies-wellbeing-and-sex-lives mentions women's bodies. Clearly transphobic.

Sort it out HQ - are you going to ban us all? If so, I'll see you fabulous GC feminists on the other side (GC Reddit) So long! And thanks for all the fish!

GeordieTerf · 14/06/2018 12:11

Is it okay to discuss conception, pregnancy, periods, and so forth?

dolorsit · 14/06/2018 12:10

I would add that I only use the app so maybe this is not an issue on the website.

ScarletBegonias · 14/06/2018 12:10

I suspect KateMumsnet didn't mean her pronouncement quite the way it came out. Maybe she'll be back to clarify?

If that was what MSHQ meant, there seems little point in staying here.

MrPan · 14/06/2018 12:09

Utterly fucking bonkers.

That doesn't "clarify (your) thinking". It just confirms just how many knots you have tied yourselves in, in order to not be seen to be offending the cohort of people who wish to crush womanhood.

dolorsit · 14/06/2018 12:09

@katemumsnet

It is a problem that these new moderation guidelines are not being published site wide.

Posts discussing women's rights appear elsewhere, for example in aibu.

If you are making clarifications then these also need to be publicised site wide not just buried in with 999 other posts.

Pratchet · 14/06/2018 12:06

To be fair I have never referred to natal sex. Happy to refer to someone's sex.

In times of universal deceit, speaking the truth is a revolutionary act.

To the barricades.

JoanSummers · 14/06/2018 12:04

Hey Mumsnet - What is a mum?

LighthouseSouth · 14/06/2018 12:04

must be an error
you couldn't talk about a trans person if statements based on natal sex aren't allowed

or perhaps that's the intention

but surely we can still say "I'm having a girl/boy"? how confusing.

OvaHere · 14/06/2018 12:03

Surely the site name is transphobic in itself. Time for a rebrand?

Nonmennet?

Nonbinarynet?

SpartacusVonWaitrose · 14/06/2018 12:02

I have no words.

No really. I have no words.

ImagineBeing · 14/06/2018 12:00

How can a site for women not allow free speech on biological facts?

Pregnancy, birth, the sex of a baby, menstruation, PCOS etc, menopause, female cancers and so forth can't be discussed on Mumsnet? ConfusedShock

This is a jokeGrin it can't be real!

OvaHere · 14/06/2018 12:00

So I can't say that I'm female?

Which I am.

reallybadidea · 14/06/2018 11:59

Surely the term 'transwoman' hangs upon natal sex? Or perhaps trans woman is ok and transwoman isn't? It's all a bit confusing.

ToeToToe · 14/06/2018 11:58

Whaaaaat? KateMumsnet, that is ridiculous. Women can't refer to their natal sex on a parenting website? Have you taken leave of your senses??

LangCleg · 14/06/2018 11:58

WHAT?

Maryz · 14/06/2018 11:58

That's ok Blostma.

Though I should warn you someone got deleted recently for posting Biscuit - it's nearly as bad as "potato" or , apparently Confused
