Witchy in a good way- in some places they might be described as 'wise women'! I would describe some of my best friends as witchy-like!

I don't claim wisdom... I was looking out of the window when I had to choose a MN name.

PermissionToSpeakSir · 09/06/2018 00:36

ha ha. So Rowan's are something of a witchy tree... and you can also make booze out of the fruit..

R0wantrees · 09/06/2018 00:35

The capital letter is a typo rather than value judgement.

R0wantrees · 09/06/2018 00:30

I do wonder if there is a significant difference given she comes from Literature rather than politics, sociology etc.
I didn't realise how significant the chasm in discourse until I tried to switch.

PermissionToSpeakSir · 09/06/2018 00:29

Do you fear she is becoming a rape apologist?

PermissionToSpeakSir · 09/06/2018 00:27

okay - dry is the wrong word - but i think she is uncomfortable with activism - she prefers analysis.

R0wantrees · 09/06/2018 00:26

I think that a chapter in 'The Whole Woman' may make sense of a lot of things for me. Off away tomorrow to the sea... with it (& a standby book). I will take whisky too.

ErrolTheDragon · 09/06/2018 00:24

Dry like wine, maybe...

BertrandRussell · 09/06/2018 00:23

I'm very very old and I don't think of Greer as the dry academic type....

R0wantrees · 09/06/2018 00:22

I think the toilet thing is more to do with her belief that some English folk have a strange sexual connection with toilet stuff.

PermissionToSpeakSir · 09/06/2018 00:22

indeed. please offload

PermissionToSpeakSir · 09/06/2018 00:21

i will

R0wantrees · 09/06/2018 00:21

ILikeyour Extreme annoyance sounds interesting.

PermissionToSpeakSir · 09/06/2018 00:20

indeed. Her writing is amazing - but all her nonsense about toilets being for 'defecating' only made me wonder if she gets out much, and if she does, how often she actually brushes with joe public in the bogs like us normals.

R0wantrees · 09/06/2018 00:20

Permission if you google Rowan trees folklore, its quite interesting. For a rather spindly tree, they have a lot going on!

ILikeyourHairyHands · 09/06/2018 00:18

May I?

I only have big reds, illicit prescription pharmas and extreme annoyance to bring to the party.

ErrolTheDragon · 09/06/2018 00:18

Limonene.

My pad suggested limoncello when I started typing that... wouldn't mind a little bit of that over ice.

R0wantrees · 09/06/2018 00:17

I think the thing about Greer is that she doesn't easily reduce her book into a smaller interview-type size. Definitely not twitter-friendly.

PermissionToSpeakSir · 09/06/2018 00:17

That is lovely - I am actually interested in the whole thing about Rowan Trees, why they were seen as special - aren't they quite spindly? A bit like elderflower bushes?

R0wantrees · 09/06/2018 00:15

I like gifting trees... its a nice way to shop.

ErrolTheDragon · 09/06/2018 00:15

Avon Skin so Soft. Oddly enough, I've got a spray bottle of it on my bedside table, bought last time we went to Mull but unused. As I've got the window open and the lights still on I may as well try it. Hm... it's described as a 'dry oil spray'... feels quite nice on forearms, quite strongly scented which is probably why it works - citronella and limonite.

PermissionToSpeakSir · 09/06/2018 00:14

Bert don't worry about Greer - she's always hated feminist activists and group actions - she is an academic and intellectual. She is probably getting the heeby-geebies with all the #MeToo stuff - she probably wants to drag feminism back into more dry academic analysis where she can feel at more of a remove.

R0wantrees · 09/06/2018 00:14

O well, I can indeed tell you a lot about Rowantrees... maybe more than you care to know!
Traditionally they were planted in homesteads to ward off evil spirits. In some places, a barnch of Rowan was made into a loop and hung over the crib of newborns... I have gifted many Rowantrees!

BertrandRussell · 09/06/2018 00:12

It was Avon Skin-so-Soft, but they've changed the formula and it doesn't work any more. They probably discovered they put DDT in it by mistake.

LighthouseSouth · 09/06/2018 00:11

X post Bertrand
Me too. Pun intended.
