A friendly place for feminist or general chit chat. Welcome all!

I decided on a port & its going surprisingly well with the remainder of my Snickers bar.

AngryAttackKittens · 16/06/2018 00:45

If I ever said that phrase aloud I hope my friends would stage an intervention. My family would be ready to send me for deprogramming.

R0wantrees · 16/06/2018 00:43

Happy to... making a SB&B will bring back many happy memories of sticky floors in the SU bar!

Weezol · 16/06/2018 00:43

Indeed. It's a phrase I have never spoken aloud - and hopefully never will because I consider it a bit wanky.
I'm reading that thread and resisting the urge to post 'ah well, username X, God loves a trier'.

AngryAttackKittens · 16/06/2018 00:41

Make mine a snakebite and black in honor of my gobby working class roots.

(And then give me something that tastes better because I'm not 17 any more.)

R0wantrees · 16/06/2018 00:39

I might have a nightcap...

AngryAttackKittens · 16/06/2018 00:28

That phrase normally sets my teeth on edge but it's been tempting recently! I suppose that if you have enough money to cushion yourself and your loved ones from the sharp end of changes to public spaces and services maybe it all seems a bit abstract.

Meanwhile it's goady fucker o'clock on the new guidelines thread. Bless, they tried.

Weezol · 16/06/2018 00:24

YY, what the actual fucking fuck? I feel like I'm going to bump into the White Rabbit and Alice on the blue posts at some point.

I almost used the phrase 'check your privilege' to hq yesterday.

AngryAttackKittens · 16/06/2018 00:08

FWIW, Weezol, the "wtf is this bollocks?" response seems to be one that most people with a working class background are having to all of this (and had to the "Emma is just a very silly girl who's already been punished enough" stuff too).

LighthouseSouth · 15/06/2018 23:58

I appreciate the idea of trying to cheer me up thanks
that thread isn't the kind of thing I read on here though

I looked up women serial killers instead. Grin To quote Natalie Dormer as Moriarty "as if men had the monopoly on murder".
Now I have some cheering stuff to study!

FermatsTheorem · 15/06/2018 15:15

Oh, I remember that one at the time Weezol, it is indeed a thoroughly lovely thread (and the grandad in question has long been one of my favourite male posters on MN, always comes across as a very sound bloke).

Weezol · 15/06/2018 15:09

If you need a break from it all, may I recommend reading this thread by a splendid grandad.

I keep it in 'Watching' and it never fails to cheer me up and make me smile. I read it from start to finish in the depths of despair and it's just lovely and very funny.

LighthouseSouth · 15/06/2018 15:08

oh dear now I need hard liquor

mostly to stop myself posting about what I feel would be appropriate punishment for rape, upskirting etc

R0wantrees · 15/06/2018 14:12

Thank you.... I think I may go have cup of Earl grey tea with a friend. Left to my own devices today, not sure I'd stop hard liquoring!

LighthouseSouth · 15/06/2018 14:10

@R0wantrees

no, that one deserves hard liquor any time, day or night, no worries.

LighthouseSouth · 15/06/2018 14:09

Weezol, I'm sure you'd get all kinds of grants....but not for a feminist pub.

I have been seriously thinking about cleaning as an extra job. I keep hearing about issues with cleaners on MN. I find it quite therapeutic and I would rather any extra work wasn't desk based.

only thing is I have a passionate hatred of dealing with burglar alarms!

R0wantrees · 15/06/2018 14:09

Is it too early for hard liquor?

Quoted tweet by TRA (from US?) in Daily Mail re CRUK's 'everyone with cervixes' campaign has floored me... I have lost too many friends to gyny cancer in the last few years.

"Thank you for this. I’ve just had a pre-cancerous cervical lesion removed. The misgendering I received at my doctor got so bad I told my husband I’d rather die of cancer instead. But I got through it & am thankful I got checked early!"

Light, while my own kitchen is a shocker, I find doing other people's washing up incredibly relaxing and rewarding. I have washed up for a living and it was a job I thoroughly enjoyed.

Does this mean I belong under the Stonewall Umbrella in some way? Should I be identifying as transhygenist or something? AutoLaverPhile? Maybe I could get a grant from the Arts Council to mount an installation at the pub and fund free bar snacks with proceeds. Perhaps The Guardian will sponsor me.

LighthouseSouth · 15/06/2018 13:28

Weezol, I think there's probably a LOT of glasses to wash! But I also imagine we have a dishwasher?

does Whittards still exist? I don't really shop so I don't know. I thought it went bankrupt or something.

Weezol · 15/06/2018 13:24

Every clarifaction confuses me further. Either the policy is as announced or it isn't. Produce a definitive version or don't produce anything.

Beta testing exists for a reason. The more that comes out, the more I think that hq is just three yummy mummies brainstorming round the kitchen table over Whittards and Duchy originals while nanny deals with the children. I know this is wrong, but I have been really feeling my working class northerness has nothing to relate to over this whole situation. Apologies to any Whittards/DO fans, nannies or people who employ nannies, I'm quite angry over all this.

Can I go in the back and wash some glasses until I've calmed down a bit?

LighthouseSouth · 15/06/2018 12:07

Thanks for the sharetoken Errol.

ErrolTheDragon · 15/06/2018 11:50

Here's a sharetoken link to the Sunday times column mentioned. I'm not a fan of camilla long (note use of 'screeching' in this piece Hmm) but she's probably got a point about what passes for 'feminism' nowadays.

LighthouseSouth · 15/06/2018 10:27

@KittyKlaws - welcome along!

LighthouseSouth · 15/06/2018 10:27

can't read the GG article as I am not a Times subscriber. I also listened to the link given by woman and much as I wanted some of the things I heard to be wrong, they weren't....unless I misunderstood what GG was saying.

womanformallyknownaswoman · 15/06/2018 09:22

do you serve brunch?

re GG I listened to her talk at Hay so my comments are based on what she actually said not what was reported :)
