This sums it up really about the problem with anti trans stunts.

What I don't understand is how some people read about things like Man Friday and think the protesters are trying to say they are trans. Totally missing the point, which is that in most cases the protesters are showing up the organisation's own guidance.. and if they can do it as a protest then anyone can do it for whatever reason.

It's odd. It seems so clear to me.

It's like the "you don't think trans people should exist" or when you say a sex offender could put on a dress and pretend to be a woman it's either "they say trans people are sex offenders" or "they say trans people are men in dresses"

Really weird

Picassospaintbrush · 07/06/2018 19:39

Loving SMGs bolding there.

Bowlofbabelfish · 07/06/2018 19:34

Is it possible that a trans woman will attack another woman? Of course it is, just as it's possible that a cis woman could attack another woman.

Ah but that’s not true is it? The statistics show that of course it is, just as it’s possible any MAN could attack a woman. Women attacking women isn’t the issue in any way at all.

What with transwomen being men, and trans women retaining the offending patterns of ...men.

I’m shocked they censored your mankini Amy - I hope they allowed The Hat Of Glory to be shown :)

Good to see that the British are leading the way in slightly annoyed common sense though. ‘Angry logic’ as David Mitchell calls it.

Someone really needs a ‘Hans.... are we the baddies..?’ moment

Ereshkigal · 07/06/2018 19:30

Trans-exclusionary feminists are powerful in Britain, uniquely so.

Good. Glad to hear it! It won't be too much effort to stop the changes to the GRA and strengthen our sex based rights in the EA then, right?

Ereshkigal · 07/06/2018 19:29

Rattled, aren't they?

Oh yes Smile

Ereshkigal · 07/06/2018 19:26

Megan sounds a bit of a dimwit, frankly.

SupermatchGame · 07/06/2018 19:24

This is a fantastically eloquent piece by Megan Nolan. She makes her points clearly, concisely and quite beautifully. It's worth quoting some of them:

"Transphobes are quite literally creating a problem that doesn't exist. They are hypothesising about an outcome, creating that outcome themselves, and then trying to use their own creation as proof of its possibility."

"The sheer gall of that took my breath away: implying that putting on a fake beard and going for a swim and a photo-op is the important work of feminism; implying that trans people don't care about Ireland's struggle for reproductive rights; and, especially, the brazen attempt to pit cis women against trans women."

"Trans women and men in Ireland have the legal right to self-declare their gender," read an open letter signed by numerous Irish feminist, LGBT and progressive groups, as well as individuals. "Trans people and particularly trans women are an inextricable part of our feminist community."

"Trans-exclusionary feminists are powerful in Britain, uniquely so. European and American feminists are often confused by the overwhelming media bias in favour of anti-trans narratives. They gain footing by exploiting fear and intentionally sowing seeds of discord between cis and trans women. They manipulate justified fears of sexual attack to advance their regressive cause. Is it possible that a trans woman will attack another woman? Of course it is, just as it's possible that a cis woman could attack another woman."

SwearyG · 07/06/2018 19:21

You might hear me make that point again, Picassospaintbrush Grin

CosmicCanary · 07/06/2018 19:13

What anti trans protesters?

Man Friday are against the "anyone can be a woman" policy not transpeople.

Thanks for reminding me how much I admire Man Friday Fox.

TransplantsArePlants · 07/06/2018 19:11

Swearyg

My God, you are right. I really hadn't thought about it in that way

Picassospaintbrush · 07/06/2018 19:10

And we are all looking forward to meeting SwearyG in Truro.

SwearyG · 07/06/2018 19:07

When someone tells you that your pro-woman stance is anti-trans they aren’t telling you that they think you are anti-trans. They are projecting their own position onto you. They are telling you their pro-trans stance is anti-woman. Their stance starts with anti-woman and resolves in pro-trans (though would be pro anything else if it put women down). They can’t understand that your pro-woman stance starts and ends with pro-woman so they project all sorts of their own feelings onto you.

This article is so flawed it doesn’t even bear picking apart, but for the fact we have lists of men who abuse self ID to hurt women as long as your arm, and that the argument “men will abuse anyway” is, frankly, shite.

lunamoth581 · 07/06/2018 19:06

Not really a hard-hitting piece of journalism, is it? It’s basically several paragraphs of personal attacks on the ManFriday protestors without any actual counter-arguments.

I am not impressed by this article.

miri1985 · 07/06/2018 18:52

""Oh really?" he responded, and swam off. This was the big reaction they'd been seeking, apparently: a moment of polite concern, followed by peaceful co-swimming. "

Wonder why they left out the fact that men were so bothered the police were called?

HerFemaleness · 07/06/2018 18:50

Dear god, if you can't be bothered to read it all then scroll down to the last paragraph. It's the old ''men will sexually assault you anyway so stop worrying your purty little heads about men identifying as women to get easier access to you''.

BlackeyedSusan · 07/06/2018 18:49

That reminds me.... Crochet hook. Thanks op.

Picassospaintbrush · 07/06/2018 18:43

Thanks for the link Fox - this was underneath and this is REALLY GOOD NEWS

www.vice.com/en_uk/article/8xev3a/aaron-persky-brock-turner-judge-recall

The judge who attracted international censure after sentencing the Stanford rapist Brock Turner to six months in jail has been recalled from office after a two-year campaign by local activists. NPR reports that 59 percent of Santa Clara County voters cast their ballots in favor of recalling Superior Court judge Aaron Persky, making him the first California judge to be recalled since 1932.

Hell, campaigning WORKS.

spontaneousgiventime · 07/06/2018 18:38

Oh I do love an article posted by Fox. They are usually a heap of crap served with a side order of righteous indignation.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 07/06/2018 18:30

Considering the effect on women counts as ridiculous, if you're a misogynist.

Offred · 07/06/2018 18:26

Yes... when we are considering new laws and changes to existing laws we absolutely should never consider the potential future impacts/unintended consequences... Doing that would be utterly ridiculous wouldn’t it?

Things like Man Friday and David Lewis aren’t actually highlighting the problems with the guidance TRA orgs are issuing to organisations and institutions that are actually changing how laws are interpreted, they are just making up things that actually happened such as David Lewis actually being accepted as a candidate for Women’s Officer and Man Friday men actually entering the Hampstead pools... those two things never happened and couldn’t happen right?

gendercritter · 07/06/2018 18:24

Genuinely stupid things are generally rather easily dismissed and ignored. What with them being stupid and there being a lot of other stupid stuff happening on a day to day basis on the internet.

Funny how #ManFriday has been neither.

UpstartCrow · 07/06/2018 18:18

Also I like how they've censored Amy's mankini, but then at the bottom they've got a link to 'The Queer Woman's Guide to Strap-On Blow Jobs'

fuuuuck.

daimbars · 07/06/2018 18:16

There are some great articles being shared today! Thanks OP.

Transphobes are quite literally creating a problem that doesn't exist. They are hypothesising about an outcome, creating that outcome themselves, and then trying to use their own creation as proof of its possibility. It doesn't work like that – you can't manufacture the evidence you require to prove a point.

My sentiments exactly.

AllTheDressesInAllTheSizes · 07/06/2018 18:15

The truth is harder than the pain inside

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 07/06/2018 18:11

Well that article is lying for a start Grin

How ridiculous that they cant even tell the truth about something they find so disdainful
