Where do we draw the trans line....?

Really interesting reading all the Daily Mail comments on latest Man Friday article.... most seemed quite happy with the idea of transsexuals using women's facilities, but no transwomen with dangly bits.

This used to be my position - and may still be so... but I am really concerned the more I read about certain transsexuals (the previously macho late-transitioning type).... those with rampant AGP which leads them to fetishise women's bodies and being in women's spaces in a very mansplainy way.... I feel very squeamish about sharing space with them.... and was deeply shocked by learning that some comb bins for used tampons and pads and wear them to "feel more like a woman" and then celebrate and share this online with other fetishists.....

My suspicion is that for the sake of what one might see as the transsexuals we have long shared space with, out of courtesy and respect, that yes it is okay for them to be in some women's spaces .... But my concern is that with TRAs being so active and the transgender movement steamrollering ahead, that more of the aggressive AGP type are going to feel liberated to come out of the closet and into our spaces....and the balance will shift

I know this is just academic - given that focussing on No Self-Id is our priority - but would be very interested in hearing what other's think as I try to clarify my own position

"Having a GRC doesn’t mean that you get to force posters on the internet to agree with you"

Deliberately misgendering someone in a public space is unacceptable.

loveyouradvice · 03/06/2018 16:05

Truscum nice to see you back - you have been much missed!

I love the trolling that ignores the legal position that we can still "segregate by sex" and how much this is not being used.... Being legally a woman is what many of us see as the route of the problem.... No problem with those who have been through an extensive process "living as a woman" while recognising they are male... Serious problems with those "part-timers" and fetishists that "live as a woman" when it suits them, with no concern for biological woman and often serious disdain/misogny

Sod that, I’m going back outside to find the ice cream LangCleg Grin

Truscum Thank you!

I hold a GRC I am a woman and to call me or anyone a TIM is offensive and wrong and done to cause distress and anxiety / upset

Having a GRC doesn’t mean that you get to force posters on the internet to agree with you. It doesn’t mean you get to police their thoughts on what you are either. Hard fact to hear but it’s the truth.

I’m a TIM, an important part of my recovering mental health has been understanding certain realities of my situation.

If an anonymous person in the internet not being willing to partake in your dysphoria/mental disorder causes that much distress and anxiety maybe you should a) seek more counselling b) take a break from the internet until you are ready to deal with the outside world.

I’m definitely going to take the rest of the day off mn. It’s hot, I’m cranky and this place just looks like an opportunity to get repeatedly deleted for speaking my mind at the minute 😁

but putting down a specific group of people is not free speech

What do you mean by "putting down" precisely?

Sarahconnor1 · 03/06/2018 15:57

Who knew that being pro-woman might put a penny on income tax?

To be fair, i would pay that.

Ereshkigal · 03/06/2018 15:57

Truscum you're obviously the wrong kind of trans.

LangCleg · 03/06/2018 15:57

I know I’ve been away for a while but what happened around here?

Buckle up, Tru, buckle up. It's going to be a long and bumpy ride.

GibbertyFlibbert · 03/06/2018 15:56

Freedom of speech allows discussion as to whether the law should be changed but putting down a specific group of people is not free speech

LangCleg · 03/06/2018 15:55

But gender critical views being a drain on the tax payer is a new one. You have to give J4nice at least the 3/10 for originality. I mean, this could lead to a whole new line of attack. Who knew that being pro-woman might put a penny on income tax?

J4nice · 03/06/2018 15:55

@spontaneousgiventime

J4nice I think your attitude (and actions) are wrong. Touche.

I post about the safety of women and children and their rights to utilise sex segregated spaces. You just want to come along and berate us for holding those views. A TIM is a man and I for one will not be fighting for their access to services, they appear more than capable themselves.

you have been reported

CuriousaboutSamphire · 03/06/2018 15:50

Hi J4nice

Not sure you've got the hang of freedom of speech, or hate crime, yet! But welcome n Grin

I blame the weather...

Truscum · 03/06/2018 15:48

its clear as day and there are other users in other posts who confirm this, that mumsnet is full of trolls and troll hunters and you hate on those who are transgender

Hi 👋 nice to meet you.

Truscum · 03/06/2018 15:47

Bloody hell.

I know I’ve been away for a while but what happened around here?

Interesting new influx of posters Grin👍

"I'm not touching the prostate thing"

Interesting choice of words Grin even if your DH asks you nicely?

spontaneousgiventime · 03/06/2018 15:44

Sarahconnor1 Agree on all counts. I did a search and hey presto, they've only posted here. Granted, could be a NC Grin

At least the trolling comment gave me a laugh. I think J4nice might be new to this board.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 03/06/2018 15:41

I'm new to this and wanted to watch both sides of the argument. Agent Provocateur? Puhlease!

That's not a nice to do. Leap in, tell us what you think... be prepared to get shouted at and to change your mind on some things, become more entrenched in others.

Bear in mind many of us have had to go through the process and, if you post honestly, you'll get a lot of information, some of it quite patient.

But game playing gets jumped on, by posters and MNHQ!
