"Out" paedophile runs for Congress in Virginia

I checked, it's real: Nathan Larson is a paedophile who fantasises about raping his 12 year old daughter, raped his now ex-wife, thinks women shouldn't work and ask to be raped and make false accusations, and is a white supremacist.

Hopefully the voters will tell him where to go and bombard him with rotten food at the results announcement but this being Virginia, I'm not willing to bet money. They mostly voted for Trump, after all.

Great analysis, including wider social context of e.g. Penis News suggesting that same-sex incest could be OK and the Paedophile Manifesto that was discussed here a while back.

WTAF?

SameTerfDifferentUserName · 02/06/2018 16:25

America has the death penalty, right? Why don’t they use it?

CuriousaboutSamphire · 02/06/2018 15:12

Eeeeeeeeeeeuw! I wish I hadn't read any of that! My world just got measurably more revolting!

Typeractive · 02/06/2018 09:18

I agree, bd67th. It's not about this particular individual winning, it's about subtle shifts in society's perceptions of what's normal/acceptable.

bd67th · 02/06/2018 07:34

@WrongOnTheInternet Jesus. You know, women really need to be allotted their own country too, somewhere we can go to when absolutely sick of the male shit out there.

YY. Some US lesbians had a similar idea and set up "womyn's lands" a few decades back.

@JustGettingStarted All sorts of loons run for office.

Indeed they do, but the analysis in that twitter thread indicates that certain aspects of his views are more widespread than I'm happy with. It indicates a worrying shift in the Overton Window.

Virginia is rated +1D in terms of partisan lean.

It's not particularly conservative.

JustGettingStarted · 02/06/2018 05:27

All sorts of loons run for office. All it means is someone filled out a form and publicly announced they were running. He's not got a political party and he's not going to win.

The people of Virginia may be conservative, but they're not demons. They're not going to vote for a pedophile.

Typeractive · 02/06/2018 04:31

This terrifies me.

Does anyone know who is funding his candidacy?

BlackShutters · 02/06/2018 02:13

I know.
That's why I explained it.

LassWiADelicateAir · 02/06/2018 02:07

Referring to Democratic politicians as "Democrat president" or "Democrat senator" or the Democratic party as the "Democrat Party" is a common tactic by Trump supporters and the like. It's supposed to annoy Democrats. It works

I am not American nor in the USA.

BlackShutters · 02/06/2018 01:31

Fine- you can blame the Democratic governor for changing the law to permit him to stand.
Yep, I absolutely do. It looks like he didn't think that through.

It's not often that I say this, but if someone took this guy out I doubt anyone would miss him.

Sadly, he isn't the only one. Less well publicized but no less bad is this person. Past in the past indeed. www.richmond.com/news/virginia/virginia-house-candidate-from-smyth-county-on-sex-offender-list/article_77a0da28-23bb-59ce-ae25-cf20d83db545.html Nathan Larson's wife commit suicide in 2015, his daughter apparently he relinquished responsibility for. Poor, poor child.

BlackShutters · 02/06/2018 01:06

Cross post.
And it's "Democratic"

BlackShutters · 02/06/2018 01:04

Anyone can run for Congress and in Virginia, even felons - they recently changed the law. As if he's not bad enough he also threatened to kill the president and spent a year and a half in jail.

I think it's highly unlikely that he'll get anywhere since even the libertarians have cut ties with him.

He doesn't have custody of his daughter and he's only seen her once thankfully.

LassWiADelicateAir · 02/06/2018 00:59

I cannot believe he can run for office

You can blame the Democrat governor for that.

OMG!

Ereshkigal · 02/06/2018 00:54

WTF did I just read?

NotAnotherNoughtiesTune · 02/06/2018 00:49

Of*

NotAnotherNoughtiesTune · 02/06/2018 00:48

Seriously?

If someone assassinated him no tears will fall down my cheeks only if gratitude

SusanWalker · 02/06/2018 00:29

That's just horrendous. The bit where he talks about his own daughter, just speechless. I hope he doesn't have any access to her.

The whole bit about reduced birthrates, surely that's what the world needs, less humans. Of course we could force all men to not work and stay home and look after the kids, but I expect he wouldn't be so keen on that. Not that you'd want him anywhere near your kids anyway.

I cannot believe he can run for office. I seriously think the whole world is going to shit, I can't remember a time when everything felt so unstable, and I grew up in the 80s with the cold war and the threat of nuclear war. This feels more scary, like the threat is all around you rather than on the other side of a wall.

WrongOnTheInternet · 02/06/2018 00:14

Jesus. You know, women really need to be allotted their own country too, somewhere we can go to when absolutely sick of the male shit out there. I'd have been there at least since the age of 13.
