David you need to beat the mankini. Now there's a challenge if ever there was one

YY. I'm sure there's some scurrying about there at the moment!

This is what is so good about Man Friday. It makes the people who make the policies actually think about what they mean.

It is very easy to write trans inclusive guidance with the help of TRAs, it requires a bit more thought to think through the potential impacts of the policy. Man Friday is helping them see these potential impacts in a really positive non threatening way.

Just listed to the interview. Amy, you are amazing! I particularly loved the snort "hardly."

IAm and yet you had your bikini all packed. Shame!

I am wondering if the council will be stupid enough to still allow selfID in the womens pool after this.

I emailed the City of London Corp yesterday to ask if I would still be welcome in the Ladies Pond today and on Wednesdays in the future. Strangely I’ve had no reply as yet.

OnTheList · 30/05/2018 14:31

Amazing. As soon as it starts to impact men it’s a “no”. Funny that.

Well this was always going to happen really. It was all fine when it would only affect female people. God forbid you inconvenience men.

Amazing work manfriday men. Definitely getting the issue out there.

I am wondering if the council will be stupid enough to still allow selfID in the womens pool after this. I have a feeling they will be...because only men matter (though not self identified men, clearly)

It was Bearded Theory festival last weekend. They have an annual 'world record attempt' for the most bearded people. It's just for fun and the beards are a wonderful sight.

MipMipMip · 30/05/2018 14:09

The one I remembered (although the one I linked to is maybe even better).

Not the one I was thinking but truly awesome. www.molliemakes.com/downloads/mollie-makes-big-comic-relief-crafternoon-2-templates/

Kilroy!
(this one's a bit scary: the doodles on my school books used to be less so)

Thete was a Comic Relief issue of Mollie Makes a few years ago that had knitted or crocheted beards. I seem to remember they had flowers entwined.

I want a beard. It would be so useful for cold dog walks. Sad

As always, Ravelry is the place to start for knitting and crochet inspiration Grin

MunchausensLovelyHorse · 30/05/2018 12:44

@R0wantrees, I reckon #hysterectomyhijack would work well on Twitter, yes.

@DickTERFin Yep I think the TRAs who are using the fake-equivalence-hysterectomy argument are not really thinking it through. (That's being polite.)

SophoclesTheFox · 30/05/2018 12:27

am now imagining Jane Fae playing Darth Vader, heavily breathing “I am your mother, Luke” Grin

Jane is not my favourite person. But the more Jane gets wheeled out, strangely, the happier I get, because Jane does the cause no favours at all.

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 30/05/2018 12:22

Got this from a fellow GC woman. She looped knotted lengths of wool round it ot get a 'full beard. Was fab

Re the yarn beards, I am thinking some of the textured yarn would be good.

DickTERFin · 30/05/2018 11:10

Classification of the reproductive capabilities of a human has nothing to do with the individual's health or the development of their reproductive tract, except when development is so abnormal, that classification becomes impossible. And that is so rare as to make it irrelevant (the people who have the conditions are not irrelevant - only that said conditions do not impact on how we classify reproduction in humans).

It's just another merry dance in "Conflate and Confuse" land.

I think when we recognise sexism, we should name it.

I agree. It is difficult to do though when calling a man a man is against the rules.

RebelRogue · 30/05/2018 10:52

Maybe we should encourage F4J to go ahead with their stunt. It will only succeed in showing self ID for the twattery that it is. "I am your mother!!"

R0wantrees · 30/05/2018 10:50

Maybe #hysterectomyhijack is more direct?

MunchausensLovelyHorse · 30/05/2018 10:46

That's a very well-written piece by Lily Maynard.

Thanks also for all the comments about the hijacking of hysterectomies. It's been a lot of food for thought - there's clearly no equivalence between (a) a woman who has had a hysterectomy, and (b) a man who identifies as trans.

The experience of the former is situated in her experience of female reproductive biology; the latter's isn't. Rather, the latter's experiences and challenges are situated in NOT having female reproductive biology.
