As I understand it there were complaints to the Kenwood ladies pond committee about people with male bodies going into the ladies pond. Their response was to allow male bodied “women” in officially in the face of resistance.

The byelaws (I’ve learned to spell this since yesterday) don’t match the rules at the ladies pond. And by calling the police the men’s pool seek to exclude female bodied “men”.

Popchyk · 29/05/2018 09:53

That Daily Mail article was pretty good, I thought.

Men outraged with the "we need single-sex spaces" narrative.

Excellent.

I was a bit disappointed that they didn't blame the whole PC gorn mad stuff on Jeremy Corbyn though. They usually do.

Terfing · 29/05/2018 09:53

Is there a way to actively get involved in a #manfriday campaign? I would be up for it!

Ringsender2 · 29/05/2018 09:52

Ps - well done ManFriday chaps!!@

Ringsender2 · 29/05/2018 09:52

What i find unclear is that both articles (the DM one and the January Indie one) state that the women's pond 'has made the decision' to admit men transitioning to women.

The Indie article then says the City of London undertook this.

Is there a committee for the Kenwood pond that made the decision, or was it unilaterally imposed by City of London, as operators of the pond?

boatyardblues · 29/05/2018 09:50

OMG! Terry Christian got old. Shock

boatyardblues · 29/05/2018 09:46

Just fired up C5. Have I missed it or is it after the ads?

Its on the Wright show this morning

I sense Matthew Wright is not going without a fight.

KateSheppard · 29/05/2018 09:46

You women are absolute warrior heroines.

Thank you.

SwearyG · 29/05/2018 09:44

Have just turned on. Might call. Matthew Wright is GC

misscockerspaniel · 29/05/2018 09:40

With you in spirit (unfortunately body too far away to participate)

Jaimx86 · 29/05/2018 09:37

The story is going to be featured on The Wright Stuff on Channel 5 in 10-15 minutes.

UpstartCrow · 29/05/2018 09:37

Ooh, also 'Whaaah, what rights do men have that women don't', I'm adding this one to the list.

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 29/05/2018 09:36

Its on the Wright show this morning

I am not taking one for the team and watching it...i am concerned for my blood pressure

UpstartCrow · 29/05/2018 09:36

So when men complain 'there's no Patriarchy, show me a Patriarchy' we can use this as an example, amirite?

DontCisgenderMe · 29/05/2018 09:36

Awesome Bank Holiday Man-day there, chaps!

The mankini! The beard! And I LOVE the T-shirt.

ApplesinmyPocket · 29/05/2018 09:36

Absolutely brilliant! well done!

That mankini - funny and so brave!

Glad the DM have covered it, but I felt the rage rising all over again at the odd angry comment about 'imagining the positions reversed, if a man turned up at the ladies' pond!' when we KNOW the likely thing is that a woman protesting would be called a vile bigot, told she should go elsewhere if it made her uncomfortable, and asked to re-educate herself Angry

But the more #manfriday gets itself in the news, the more people WILL wake up.

I'm just so proud of you brave women, Amy and Sweary Flowers

Bowlofbabelfish · 29/05/2018 09:34

Good on you sweary - I’m so happy you are doing this. I admire you greatly!!

NotARegularPenguin · 29/05/2018 09:32

No I agree that they’re making good points.....the same ones we’ve been making! Just a shame they haven’t realised that actually the pool staff have said it’s ok for men to use the women’s pond! And that’s why the protest took place to highlight the stupidity of it.

powershowerforanhour · 29/05/2018 09:31

Good lads.

R0wantrees · 29/05/2018 09:28

NotARegularPenguin

Perhaps unknowingly the men quoted in the Daily Mail articulate many of the issues and women's concerns about the possible implications of self-id?

From the article, men's quotes:

'Women have their own pool where they can bathe topless. This is absolutely ridiculous. This has been here since Victorian times!'
Women have their own female-only pool, we have ours and if you want to swim with men then go to the mixed pond."

"One man shouted: 'They aren't men!' Another said: 'This is ludicrous. If I turned up at the female-only pond and claimed to be a woman I would never get let in. This is our space and that's how it should stay."

"There were some men annoyed because they felt their privacy had been invaded and some who were concerned about photography."

"The rules need clarity."

NotARegularPenguin · 29/05/2018 09:24

yesitsadebate. It’s ok, main thing is it happened. But I would have loved to have been there!

SwearyG · 29/05/2018 09:24

That’s my plan for the summer, Bowlofbabelfish. I have the time and inclination to go and stalk the ladies pond every day if needs be.

Bowlofbabelfish · 29/05/2018 09:21

Right now someone female needs to complain about a man in the women’s pool.

And when they are told they are transphobic, they need to ask why women were removed from the men’s but not vice versa.

I am stunned that this is top story in the DM. It’s fantastic.

Hope the sky coverage is understanding the issues as well.

YesItsADebate · 29/05/2018 09:19

Oops, sorry NotAPenguin! We kept it very tightly under wraps to avoid being drowned by TRAs.

R0wantrees · 29/05/2018 09:17

Petition to Parliament:
"Consult with women on proposals to enshrine 'gender identity' in law
The government proposes to amend the law to allow people to self-identify as men or women, and to stop allowing organisations in sensitive situations to exclude people of the opposite birth sex. We call for women to be consulted on how to protect women and girls' rights, safety, privacy and dignity."
