You couldn't make it up at this point, could you?

""Trans Voices for Repeal would like the..Together for Yes campaign..to formally acknowledge the pain their actions have caused trans people in Ireland, the negative effect their campaign has had on the mental health of trans people and the unnecessary nature of this exclusion."

HerFemaleness · 27/05/2018 12:43

Poe's law.

SupermatchGame

Are you saying that if it was real it would be totally outrageous?

Yes

Why are you saying it isn't real? The twitter feed is real. They have verifiably real followers. This appears on the twitter feed.

TERFragetteCity · 27/05/2018 12:37

Yes.

On what grounds?

R0wantrees · 27/05/2018 12:36

Lots of different people on there unhappy that the campaign was not gender-neutral from the outset and that people should be referring to pregnant people rather than pregnant women.

Legislation and policies which affect women will be being drawn up as a result of the referendum.

There may well be a push to influence the language in new legislation and policies re 'woman' and 'female'.

Yes.

Are you saying that if it was real it would be totally outrageous?

Interesting.

Writersblock2 · 27/05/2018 12:25

As far as I’m aware, this is real. It’s outrageous. We should use this to spur us on. Every bit of bullshit like this feeds my motivation to fight.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 27/05/2018 12:14

SMG If you know for certain, that this is just shite satire, then please do come back and let is know.

As others have said, sadly this IS very much the tone of real TRA witterings. Which shows just how fucked up the situation is...

ToeToToe · 27/05/2018 12:10

omfg you actually thought this was real?

Why wouldn't we? This is the aim of transactivism - trans lobbyists are in our NHS, advising parliament, and in our schools, actually saying this stuff - about trans-inclusiveness.

velourvoyageur · 27/05/2018 12:08

Just the stunningly blind arrogance of telling women who grew up knowing that they'd be legally forced to carry an unwanted pregnancy to term that they're 'cis' and call themselves women because they feel some sort of inner resonance with the gendered socialisation they received, and because they were somehow born predisposed to not finding it problematic.

Cwenthryth · 27/05/2018 12:08

Do you know something everyone else doesn’t, SMG?

The thing about satire or parody is that it’s meant to be funny - this isn’t funny.

R0wantrees · 27/05/2018 12:02

"omfg you actually thought this was real?"

That we might believe there are people out there who would demand such a thing, says more about the extent of TRA's appropriation and insistence by some that they be centred in all things.

MyAuntyBadger · 27/05/2018 12:01

Supermatchgame, do you know who's behind it?

PencilsInSpace · 27/05/2018 12:00

omfg you actually thought this was real?

We've been saying for a while it's getting impossible to tell real stuff from satire when it comes to trans demands.

Please do share what you know SMG because I hope this is not real.

AdeliciousRex · 27/05/2018 11:56

Whoever it is and why, it's vile.

MipMipMip · 27/05/2018 11:53

I genuinely don't have the words left to us. I am speechless.

R0wantrees · 27/05/2018 11:52

It may be deliberately timed. The intention may be to affect the new legislation and policies which will need to be drawn up quickly.

SupermatchGame · 27/05/2018 11:51

omfg you actually thought this was real?

thewitchofwentworth · 27/05/2018 11:49

The only thing good you can say about them is that at least they waited until after the vote was held before they started in with this nonsense.

AdeliciousRex · 27/05/2018 11:48

Assholes. Assholes! Can't they see how vile this is?

R0wantrees · 27/05/2018 11:47

It's important to watch for new legislation in Ireland which includes the definition of 'woman'.

In acknowledging the experiences of people who identify as trans men and non-binary there may be wider implications.

cf The Scottish legislation:

PerfPower · 27/05/2018 11:39

Just sent the link to my lib fem friend, we don't talk about gender since nearly falling out a couple of months ago after she sent a male women's officer a supportive tweet and I pointed out their narcissism. She's Irish, it'll be interesting to see what she makes of this. The comments under the article are interesting.

Popchyk · 27/05/2018 11:29

I note that even the Trans Voices for Appeal group don't actually claim to have done anything at all in order to get the law changed. Just waited for someone else to do the hard work and then swoop in at the end to try to hijack it. And force an apology.

Now that laws will be changed, they are trying to put a stake in the ground. Ground they had no part in creating.

If the Together for Yes campaign had failed, then Trans Voices for Appeal would have demanded an apology and said that the campaign failed because it wasn't trans inclusive and the public voted no purely because transgender issues were not centred in the campaign.

Everything is always about trans whatever the outcome.
