SarahConnor1 I've been wondering that for a while too.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 31/05/2018 16:52

See? When I'm in charge there will be a 'reveal' button on spcial media that you press to get a live video of the poster.

I'm starting to think Ariel is a troll. No one can lack self awareness that much.

This little exchange made me laugh mobile.twitter.com/BeautifulArielM/status/1000905943243214848

Popchyk · 31/05/2018 14:23

Yes and they are very vocal about how trans-sexuals should also STFU. Look at how they've gone after Miranda.

Speaking of Twitter, this made me laugh.

MNHQ has a guest campaign with Water Aid UK about how we should be talking about periods. MNHQ has been tweeting about it.

First comment is from Ariel Moss (TRA):

Mumsnet is the most anti-feminist website there is. They should not be talking about the periods!

One group stands out in as much as they seem to be the only group not having their organs removed. Yet these are the ones gaining power, typically entering politics or becoming media personalities.

See also NUT Women's/LGBT+/Trans officers.

Could it be that if everything goes tits up, you can quietly go back without much fuss, to being the man you were?

They haven't stopped being the man they are. They're getting special privileges and the kick of being simultaneously the most powerful man and the 'most vulnerable lady' in the room at the same time.

FlippinFumin · 31/05/2018 08:10

That is a great point Terf, and something I have been pondering on. If they are so dysmorphic, why keep the one thing that identifies you as the sex you don't want to be?

Could it be that if everything goes tits up, you can quietly go back without much fuss, to being the man you were? Say if the wonderful utopia you all want, where you are accepted as women happens. Then because you have done such a wonderful job of denigrating women, you find being a woman is not such a ball after all.

Great point.

One of the strangest things about the growth in trans as a whole is indeed how there seems to be several distinct 'aetiologies' (in quotes because they don't seem to me all to be illnesses).

So we have the 'traditional' transexuals, who are being treated really badly tru etc. Then we have the middle aged heterosexual men. We have the boys who have been brought up as girls from a pretty early age (especially in the states), due to girl brain, and their number is increasing. Also their ftm counterparts. Finally this huge rapid onset group.

Where and why we differ from the student position I'm not sure. If you and I were students now what would our positions be? It would be useful to pick this apart I believe as this really seems to be one crux of the matter.

The fact that a particular class of mtf transexual, as well as lesbians and women generally, is being erased has been noted often by GC people, in fact many are our allies. How have the Tra managed to subvert things to the degree that 'transexual' is set to be removed from the statutes as 'old fashioned'. Do the students differentiate in any way between the two main classes of tims, as described by M Yardley?

Thanks Darth for scanning the new stands while many of us sleep. This really seems to be catching interest now, which has to be a good thing.

Rowen your powers of analysis at 1.30 in the morning are a credit to you. I especially like the paragraph 'I also wonder..' Much food for thought.

So really, a lot of the vehement opposition to the GC viewpoint is coming from people who are in many ways like us. This point interests me because so many mn women describe having been wholly sympathetic to the plight of transexuals before peaktransing. That was certainly my own view, first formed about 30 years ago, and based on niche tv documentaries. My heart went out to such people, and still does (again many mn feminists have singled out transexuals with dysphoric symptoms, and remain strongly aligned to their defence, as people having (what seems to me) a very cruel and unusual mental illness).

Do you think the Tra are deliberately exploiting the liberal yet naive spirit of young people to further their cause? Or have the students just latched themselves on coincidently.

Update on the Fail story

Feminists’ fury as Twitter bans them for saying women can’t be men

R0wantrees · 31/05/2018 01:34

I think a number of things may be possibly going on.. its all rather complex!
Firstly that it is certainly true that those who may be characterised as 'far right' are indeed a threat to many groups including people who are transgender, lesbian, gay, refugees, migrants, muslims etc through intolerance & bigotry. This would include physical threat.

The MPs who have spoken out so far seem to be mostly to the political right of the Conservative party eg Norman Tebbit, Jacob Rees Mogg, David Davies though this seems to be more attributable to their position re free speech and / or support for traditional gender roles.

It may be that in the overlap with free speech, press freedoms 'common sense' some political capital could be gained by those politicians, commentators etc

I also wonder to what extent conflating those who are gender critical with this position affects those people who rightly condemn the intolerance of the 'far right' and are new to the discussions around sex and gender. This can be powerful and persuasive.

It can also be a way of shaming (or attempting to shame) those who are left wing / progressive.

Some people may also genuinely regard views which do not affirm trans rights ideology as being 'far right' if this term means intolerance to them.

So perhaps its both descriptive and signalling.

There's clearly more going on in the targeting of GC twitter users, just as with the focus on Mumsnet or lesbian groups.

Terfulike · 31/05/2018 00:41

That's an interesting post Rowen. What do you think s going on.

R0wantrees · 31/05/2018 00:32

Many of the abusive tweets by predominantly men, also seem to be from accounts which demonstrate what might be described as 'far right views'.
Last week's article in The Independent (see also Owen Jones' comment) identified this as the main threat to people who are transgender.

www.indy100.com/article/how-the-far-right-is-attacking-the-lives-of-the-transgender-community-and-what-we-can-do-to-stop-it-8369021

The majority of the gender critical women and transexuals targeted for Twitter censorship seem to mostly be either current or ex Labour and Green members .

MillyTheKid · 30/05/2018 22:32

I'd imagine most of the abuse from men is just casual male yobbery that a lot of people have to put up with so is sometimes ignored with a 'ho hum, what's the point?' type of attitude. Because gender critical women and transsexuals are perceived as campaigning against them it's probably only natural they'll be reported more.

SupermatchGame · 30/05/2018 22:26

mmm I can see that could happen as well, yes.

Ereshkigal · 30/05/2018 22:19

Or because gender critical women and transsexuals are deliberately targeted by TRAs?

SupermatchGame · 30/05/2018 22:17

Probably because they are the more high profile ones that are coming on to everyone's radar and therefore likely to get reported more?

R0wantrees · 30/05/2018 22:06

Twitter is banning people who are reported.
There are many comments (mostly by men) which are bigoted & cruel towards people who are transgender.
I wonder why it is mostly women and people who are GC who seem more often targeted.

SupermatchGame · 30/05/2018 21:57

Twitter is banning people who misgender others. That is all. This is in line with the the definition of harassment by the Equalities and Human Rights Commission, Parliament and the courts. It is harassment and it's not ok. It's got nothing to do with whether it's a woman or a man doing it.

Basically if you release information into the public domain when there is a reasonable expectation that it can be used to personally identify someone, you may be liable for the breach, and the greater the loss/distress the greater the penalty.

They specifically mention "a motivated intruder" doing this to identify political campaigners.
