Guess how I got suspended from the Labour Party?

Well, one of the weirdest days in my life concluded with me receiving a letter informing me of my immediate suspension from the Labour Party. They believe I may have breached the rules by subverting the intention of All Women Shortlists, Women’s Officers or minimum quotas for women. Unfortunately, this does mean that my political ambitions are on hold for a while. I shall of course be continuing to self-identify as a woman every Wednesday, as that is my gender identity...

I have to say a huge thanks to @namechangeah for all her help, guidance and, more importantly, proof-reading! I wouldn’t have gotten to this point without it. I’d also like to thank everyone for their support today. I hope this has helped a bit.

And the Telegraph called me an “activist”! Achievement unlocked Grin

Thanks David.

Pratchet · 23/05/2018 08:22

he’s asked if I would be prepared to come in and give a talk on the concerns of gender Id issues for women to the other councillors in the area. how completely brilliant. Well done.

borntobequiet · 23/05/2018 08:21

Brava!
Take this opportunity to get your colours done. Why not? You're a girl!

hackmum · 23/05/2018 08:19

OP: 'Now with a suspension, the Party will presumably need to define what a “self-identified woman” is, in order to show that I am not one. That, I believe, is progress.'

All the LOLS for this. The only difference between David and Lily Madigan, as far as I can see, is that David has publicly admitted he's taking the mick.

JoyTheUnicorn · 23/05/2018 08:16

TheUterati - this one?

RadicalFern · 23/05/2018 08:16

Thank you David, my Wednesday sister. You make me want to sing "For she's a jolly good fellow!"

Now with a suspension, the Party will presumably need to define what a “self-identified woman” is, in order to show that I am not one.

I think LP likely to tie themselves up in serious knots if they try this. I already think it's outrageous that they say you are any less a woman than other self identifying women. Also, surely the point of SELF-id is that nobody other than that person gets a say.

I also think it's totally unreasonable of LP to put a system in place so open to abuse (whilst saying it's all fine), and then whine about the consequences. The burden is on them to make things clear, not on everyone else to just magically know what the spirit of the AWS is, when woman is defined as anyone who says they are one (except David, who doesn't count because reasons).

Although they'll probably get away with denying you your womanhood, they'll be massacred by TRAs if they ever do it to anyone else.

Good morning Sister David. I hope you are basking in your womanliness this good Wednesday.

Thanks for your efforts to highlight the shitshow that is transactivism.

Sadly Labour is finished.

It's time that the moderates in the Labour Party desist with the arse covering and start a new party before the reputation of anything remotely left wing has been completely plundered by the authoritarian, regressive policies of Momentum. It really is shocking.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 23/05/2018 08:12

This only didn’t go ahead because you were in the papers. If you kept quiet, you would have progressed. What does it say about their policy? How can they say the application is not genuine if the applicant doesn’t tell them himself??

TheUterati · 23/05/2018 08:09

Who is that policeman who is sometimes a woman and sometimes a man, and performs their duties as both?
That would be a good precedent to cite.

Awks · 23/05/2018 08:06

Cheer up love Smile

Thanks for the lolz and for highlighting the complete lunacy of labours stance. Can you imagine the meeting they must have had before binning you. Imagining you, an obvious bloke in their little club, doing man things and bring manny. Awful.

JoyTheUnicorn · 23/05/2018 08:06

I'd really love this to push transcultists to answer fully why David isn't a woman yet others (Heather Peto, Lily Madigan, Pippa Bunce et al) are.
The only difference I can see is clothes, surely one of the main UK political parties in the country isn't so regressive and stupid as to make policies based on people's clothes? Except they're doing a great show of proving that they are.
Good luck today David, let your womanly woman-ness shine through 💁

UpstartCrow · 23/05/2018 08:06

@IAmDavidLewis thank you! Flowers

That must be some kind of record. It took them 2 years to dump Ian McKenzie, but then he's just a misogynist.

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 23/05/2018 08:05

I don't think you did womanface very well David.

Merchfach · 23/05/2018 08:04

David, thanks from me too!

sexnotgender · 23/05/2018 08:04

Another lining up to THANK YOU!!

Fascinated to see how this plays out.

And how dare labour question your innate lady feels on a Wednesday. If it’s good enough for he who must not be named it should damn well be good enough for you.

bakingdemon · 23/05/2018 08:04

Best of British to you madam, as you enjoy your womanly Wednesday ThanksThanks

TERFragetteCity · 23/05/2018 07:59

Thanks David. This is why I love the UK.

BetsyM00 · 23/05/2018 07:54

Thanks David, can't wait for Labour's explanation! If you attend a suspension interview can you record it please?

And if you are looking for inspiration for your next #WomanWednesday activism, may I suggest visiting the Scottish Parliament. A ManFriday chap was kicked out of the men's loos, so I would love to see if you would be kicked out the ladies.

I dont know whether to laugh or cry about the once great Labour Party I was proud to call my political home. If you need any funding to fight your suspension then mumsnetters are pretty good at contributing.

Yes, Sad and yes! (Although I think I'm banned from GoFundMe for contributing to Jennifer James under a funny made-up name) Confused

Don't you get a Venice Allan-style interrogation by some Labour pen-pusher for free though?

Janie143 · 23/05/2018 07:47

Is Jennifer Jones using her crowd funding donations? Maybe she could share?

ShackUp · 23/05/2018 07:43

You just got a mention onToday R4 Thanks

AsAProfessionalFekko · 23/05/2018 07:43

It's just been on Radio 4 - very funny!

ImPreCis · 23/05/2018 07:37

THANK YOU David.
My old iPad, which struggles to move from upper to lower case nowadays, automatically typed the above formatting. I think it appropriately suggests strength of feeling so have left it. Strange how technology just sometimes takes over and gets it right.

Hey David/Davina, massive thanks for your solidarity and personal effort.
Your Y chromosomes can reach the parts of the Labour policy-making mindset about women’s representation, whereas women asking these questions get nowhere or get shouted down. So it’s a necessary thing you are doing.
I’m really hoping Labour will look again at what it is doing and also at the misogynistic behaviour it is condoning of people closely linked to the party. Hopefully your Y chromosome will help them to see how this is impacting on women’s representation. I wonder if you’ll get the same treatment as female party members that have shown so much dedication and given up so much time and effort for Labour in the past?
