Guess how I got suspended from the Labour Party?

IAmDavidLewis · 22/05/2018 23:17

Well, one of the weirdest days in my life concluded with me receiving a letter informing me of my immediate suspension from the Labour Party. They believe I may have breached the rules by subverting the intention of All Women Shortlists, Women’s Officers or minimum quotas for women. Unfortunately, this does mean that my political ambitions are on hold for a while. I shall of course be continuing to self-identify as a woman every Wednesday, as that is my gender identity...

I have to say a huge thanks to @namechangeah for all her help, guidance and, more importantly, proof-reading! I wouldn’t have gotten to this point without it. I’d also like to thank everyone for their support today. I hope this has helped a bit.

And the Telegraph called me an “activist”! Achievement unlocked Grin

because there aren't actually any men or fake trans women applying to be on Labour all women shortlists.

How do you know this?

Everyone on this forum knows you don't have a female gender identity.

I would like clarification on whether this would exclude him from being nominated for this post. I don't know whether I have a female gender identity - would I be excluded from this position?

Bowlofbabelfish · 23/05/2018 20:30

Everyone on this forum knows you don't have a female gender identity.

Tad transphobic? If David says she’s a woman on wednesdays then you have to accept that. Otherwise you’re just a bigot. Gender identity is about that indefineable feeling isn't it? You’ve said that quite a bit. As well as we don’t get to define how other people feel?

I’m afraid if David says she’s a lady on Wednesday then she’s a lady on wednesdays. Grin

SupermatchGame · 23/05/2018 20:28

Objectively, how can you tell if someone is a fake transwoman or a real transwoman?

In terms of AWS, a question you only need to ask in the bizarre wold of Scaremongery Transphobia.

Bowlofbabelfish · 23/05/2018 20:27

Everyone on this forum knows you don't have a female gender identity.

That’s rather the point of it.

The Labour party knows you don't have a female gender identity.

Ahhh but they didn’t did they? Until he told them. Up until then they accept a bloke saying he’s a woman on wednesdays as if it’s the most regular and normal thing.

It’s a fantastic bit of work. With not a single raised voice, no threats, no violence, David has thrust this whole thing into the spotlight. Just like ManFriday - polite, civil protest. It’s fabulous and it’s got people talking. This is the best of British civil protest.

And no ones afraid of the issues being discussed are they? Why on earth wouldn’t they welcome debate and awareness?

Unless people wanted all this to fly under the radar?

MipMipMip · 23/05/2018 20:24

SMG But it is happening elsewhere not that it ever would happen. Here's one recent example www.therepublic.com/2018/05/08/lt-mexico-fake-transgender/

Men lieing to get something. Who would have thought it?!

SupermatchGame · 23/05/2018 20:24

Really? I just read that back boaty it doesn't seem particularly cross to me. Would you prefer me to have decorated it with a few Star and Smile? 🌻 and 🌸?

Would that make it look less cross?

LangCleg · 23/05/2018 20:22

I thought it was more that the Labour Party has now become the sole arbiter - aka gatekeeper, and we know how TRAs hate gatekeeping - of who does, and does not, have a genuine gender identity. Which, of course, is not self-ID at all.

ErrolTheDragon · 23/05/2018 20:16

The Labour party knows you don't have a female gender identity.

But they didn't until he publicised it - they'd accepted his application.

ToeToToe · 23/05/2018 20:15

And I can't believe SMG claims to know Mr Lewis's gender ID better than he does - how very transphobic and bigoted.

TransplantsArePlants · 23/05/2018 20:15

Supermatch

Spectacularly missing the point there

At the point at which they accepted his nomination, the Labour Party knew nothing of his motivation, other than what he told them. They gave not the shiniest shit. They knew one thing: that he was male. They knew that, and yet they thought that entirely irrelevant to the job at hand and were prepared for him to supersede someone female.

Really good they've clarified their position. Now we know. Now all those people who didn't have a clue about this know that a man, for whatever reason, is eligible to take a woman's job

ToeToToe · 23/05/2018 20:14
  1. Got an awful lot of people talking about how ridiculous the notion of self-ID is.

Which is good - and probably why SMG is so cross.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 23/05/2018 20:12

boatyardblues · 23/05/2018 20:11

You sound quite cross SuperMatchGame.

SupermatchGame · 23/05/2018 20:08

Thing is Mr Lewis, you know you don't have a female gender identity.

I know you don't have a female gender identity.
Everyone on this forum knows you don't have a female gender identity.
The Labour party knows you don't have a female gender identity.

In the real world everyone knows you don't have a female gender identity, because there aren't actually any men or fake trans women applying to be on Labour all women shortlists. It only happens in your bizarrely constructed world of transphobia.

You have however succeeded in doing two things:

  1. You have prompted the Labour party to clarify that genuine trans women, with or without a GRC, are welcome to stand on AW shortlists.
  1. You may have ended your career. Assuming you had one.

So not entirely a waste then.
(With reference to point 1 of course).

spontaneousgiventime · 23/05/2018 20:08

Oh, someone beat me to it. I've just bought a subscription so this was my first share.

ChattyLion · 23/05/2018 20:08

Gaahhhh.... David Lewis really hasn’t ‘abused’ or ‘misused’ anything at all. He has played exactly by the self-ID rules.
The Rules ARE THE PROBLEM, not him.
Self ID-ing is exactly and only that.
Clue’s in the name, outraged Labour Party people. DL’s motivations for self ID are completely irrelevant and unknowable by anyone else. Thats why self ID such a shit, dangerous idea especially when it puts men into women’s spaces, opportunities for representation etc etc. Like I don’t know, being a political party Women’s Officer.
HTH Labour.

ErrolTheDragon · 23/05/2018 20:06

Oh, I missed that you'd got a working one, no idea why mine was different. Never mind!

Bowlofbabelfish · 23/05/2018 20:00

Thank you! Can read it now.

ErrolTheDragon · 23/05/2018 20:00

That's what I did, it's evidently different link in mobile v app for some reason. Or maybe because it's new.

ErrolTheDragon · 23/05/2018 19:59

It'll probably be in tomorrow's edition.

Meanwhile, a richly deserved suspension

Errol, I get sharetokens by clicking the share by email icon, then copying & pasting the link from there, if that helps.

Hm, that doesn't look like a sharetoken. The piece is new, I don't think it's in the main app version I usually use, that's from the mobile version.

spontaneousgiventime · 23/05/2018 19:54

If I knew how to post with a share token I would.
