I was shown this by a friend on Twitter and another on Facebook and wondered what everyone thought:

foreverymom.com/arts-entertainment/dog-show-movie-review-grooming/

In short, the film is using the 'put up with what you don't like because you need it to accomplish something' as a point of the film.

If you read the article it explains it better as have a squirming toddler.

But do you think this is hysteria? An actual problem in children's entertainment?

I just saw this on social media too. It's shocking! And so unsubtle, which scares me even more.

Like pp said- how many people would this have been ok'd by?!
So wrong!!

NotAnotherNoughtiesTune · 22/05/2018 18:43

That and that you should think of something else to be able to endure it.

More sinister the more I think about it.

Their is no reason to have anything like that in a kids film. As a pp said it could have been a teeth check or possibly being bathed or something? My dc will definitely not be watching this, it might be subtle in the film, but to a child its not at all. It makes a person question why the fuck it would be put in a film directed at children. It's disgusting, we do everything we can as parents to make our children aware or when something is wrong and that someone touching their private parts is wrong, and then this film comes out and sends a completely different message.

Has this been posted on the parenting boards? I’m not familiar with all the boards on mn but I’m sure others would know where it should go.

aaarrrggghhhh · 22/05/2018 18:12

That is chilling. The mindset involved of the huge number of people who would have signed off on this - i.e. either some very off mindset or too scared to say something mindset.

Just UGH.

Huh? That's the most bizarre thing I've read all week. Just, why?

NoTNoShade · 22/05/2018 18:02

I first saw a link on FB and dismissed it as OTT, but then I read it and changed my mind.
Exactly the same as me. I thought it was a load of Facebook whipped up hysteria but I'm shocked at it. My dd would definitely want to see this so I'm glad that it was pointed out to me.

I agree having to get a coat put on him or something equally could e been a resistance that would be funny without creepy undertones.

Jesus, what the actual? Thank you for bringing that to my attention OP, my 10yo DS wants to see that film but after reading that I don’t think so. That’s just shocking.

I didn't know that was a requirement of dog show judging.

Undescended testicles or monoorchidism is correlated with increased testicular cancer, and is heritable. So, understandably it's a 'fault' hence, I assume, the need to check dogs. (Don't know if anything similar applies to bitches).

But, as I said, not appropriate in a kids film.

ErrolTheDragon · 22/05/2018 17:47

It does sound off. If they'd really felt it to be a necessary part of the storyline that the dog had to put up with something he didn't like, it could have been having his teeth examined - many kids don't much like going to the dentist but know they have to do it. That would have been much less inappropriate and a situation kids could empathise with.

LassWiADelicateAir · 22/05/2018 17:34

I didn't know that was a requirement of dog show judging.

I'm not a devotee of Crufts but if and when this examination happens I have never noticed it on television or heard it mentioned by the commentators. It could easily have been missed out.

I first saw a link on FB and dismissed it as OTT, but then I read it and changed my mind.
I think it's concerning, and given recent revelations/allegations about Hollywood and child abuse, I would consider this as grooming in plain sight.
