Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Is this really a feminist board?

I am a crap feminist. I haven't read a single book on the subject. Not De Beauvoir, not Greer, not Butler. The reasons for that are to do with a disability that I'd rather not go into, but I am a woman with a brain, and the Republic of Ireland is having a referendum on repealing the 8th this week. There it is, look, thirty threads down. And this "Feminism and Women's Rights" board's primary concern seems to be "What it will really take the peak trans the world?"

So I'm asking you, because I genuinely, honestly, cross my heart and hope to die, believe you are all better read and/or have more experience and/or more knowledge of being a woman than I do.

Doesn't that bother you? Doesn't it bother you that, four days away from the repeal vote, there's one thread on that in the bottom third of a fifty-thread page, and two or three dozen trans-related threads covering everything from Amnesty International to Jordan Peterson to exactly what Munroe Bergdorf told Venice Allan? Does it give you any pause for thought?

I hate to be personal, but I guess I'm just better at relationships than you were. I'm very good at relationships, happily married now for over 25 years. First marriage was a sham though. Ex was dressing in womens clothing behind my back and hitting me when his own frustration got too much. Oh hang on, he also said I was bad at keeping the relationship going when I finally escaped. Funny that! And I never did see him in the dresses, bet he looked right cute.

Good riddance to bad rubbish.

Well, I think you've answered my question at last Damn. You're here to advise everyone
I was asked a question, so I answered it.
If I had ignored it, I'm sure I would have been accused of "flouncing off".
ButI'm going do that now, anyway, 'cos I've got other things that I need do.
'Bye.

Discriminated against = not being welcome in changing rooms with women? That's not discrimination - that's protecting the rights of women and girls.

80% of transwomen do not have bottom surgery - AKA have penises. I'm told I can't tell the difference. Therefore, I want changing spaces/hospital wards etc to be on the basis of born biological sex - not gender identity. For the safety and dignity of women and girls.

Blame your AGP mates.

Posting offensive comments about them works, too.
Is that a threat?
No. It's a comment about someone who runs two websites pushing transphobic propaganda (Why two? isn't one enough?) but who pretends to be an innocent little old lady who just happened to be passing and thought it would be "funny" to take some photos "just to show her husband"

There was a campaign on Mumsnet not long ago, aimed at disrupting government research because its advocates were worriedtyhat havingaccurate data might prompt the government to do something to make trans lives a little better.
Reference?

And where has anyone said they want all the legal protections transitioning /transitioned people have removed?
I’ve never seen that.
Again reference please.
Too many to list. Dozens in this thread alone advocating discrimination against trans people, or complaining that trans people are not being discriminated against.

TERFragetteCity · 23/05/2018 21:54

and b. That being verbally ‘wound up’ is any kind of justification for physical assault?
No. But it's one way to provoke someone. Kicking their friend is another. Posting offensive comments about them works, too.

TW wanted to fuck up some TERF's that night I believe - they posted that before the event. Weird how they planned it but it was still provocation...such a mindreader! They should be on the stage with powers like that.

Works as what? A provocation for a punch in the face?

That is how abusers talk.

AngryAttackKittens · 23/05/2018 21:50

I'm not engaging with someone who thinks that there's a "yes, but" when a tall young male person thumps a small elderly female person. Everyone has their lines in the sand and trying to handwave away or justify violence is one of min.

I can't tell you again because I didn't say that in the first place.
My reply contrasted inadvertent delays in diagnosis with deliberate refusal to refer for treatment.

Mclachlan wasn’t on trial. Wolf was on trial for punching mclachlan. You sound like you think she was the aggressor.

There is no ‘but’ here. What level of provocation justifies physical assault then?

The language you use to describe this incident is disturbing- it implies you sympathise with a six foot plus male who punched a sixty year old woman to the floor.

Do you?

Ereshkigal · 23/05/2018 21:39

The trial was a ridiculous virtue signalling exercise in pandering. Nonetheless the 6 foot 2 male thug got a criminal record, because there was no avoiding who the guilty party was.

Just as when that same male thug allegedly threatened a woman on her own picket line, on video. Sadly no court case though.

Believe me: we've all seen and read Blanchard's theory of autogynephilia and we know why it is (rightly) ignored by all but a tiny number of his acolytes

You only have to dip your toe onto twitter to see AGP's left right and centre. I don't believe for a moment that people with gender dysphoria are AGP's but they do exist and they are scaring the crap out of women (and enjoying it)

AngryAttackKittens · 23/05/2018 21:31

I reckon MNHQ should put a character limit on posts...

No kidding. My poor abused scroll button...

Hope your DD is OK now and well away from the bastard, Bertrand.

Bowlofbabelfish · 23/05/2018 21:21

I see no reference to the genetic usage of cis and trans in that definition. Nor do I see them being defined AS the opposite of each other. That definition contrasts, it does not define in opposition and it has no reference to human gender identity, genetics or stereochemistry.

If you’d like to give me a definition of a genetic cis element that implies it’s defined in opposition to a trans one as its sole quality I’m all ears, likewise errol will doubtless be pleased to hear exciting new definitions of her professional field of expertise.

TERFragetteCity
Nothing to see here, just some good old fashioned policing of women's thoughts and actions...
Is that all your own work, or did you get a friend to post it so that you could get a screenshot?

I did say on another thread that the first response would be to accuse TERFs of retrospectively making it up. Lol. So predictable. BINGO!
