Trans women

Probably going to get shot down massively here but a simple question clearly there is a lot of hate for men wanting to be women, but nothing about women becoming men. Do you also frown upon this or is it ok and for what reason?

@Mamaryllis did anyone complain about the mind controlling about the ' mandatory trans awareness session at work'.

There should be a chance for anonymous feedback. If there is not you could ask for it.

SupermatchGame · 21/05/2018 21:40

You don't think society should encourage critical thinking,

Yes critical thinking of course. I do lots of that as well. It's the pleasure and delight in misgendering that many on here indulge themselves in like some sort of irresistible habit I was referring to.

ToeToToe · 21/05/2018 21:21

OMG - India W's antics in the CBB house has now become a work training program.

I think this is 're-education' that Stonewall think we women need. Heaven help us all.

Ereshkigal · 21/05/2018 21:20

No there aren't. I think that's called progress and civilisation.

You don't think society should encourage critical thinking, which is what that post was about? Righto. Interesting. You do you.

Mamaryllis · 21/05/2018 21:20

She asked at the beginning. I didn’t put my hand up. At that point she was doing the whole ‘hey I’m being totally open and I want you to be honest with me’. Then two hours of ‘it’s not acceptable and you must believe I am a woman because I say so and once I was scared of a man and I don’t like my penis showing in a swimsuit, and pretending to believe I am a woman and using female pronouns isn’t good enough because I can tell what you are thinking and you must truly believe I am a woman otherwise you are responsible for transwomen killing themselves and you have blood on your hands.’ Etc etc

She didn’t ask at the end. She bottled I think. She made a brief speech about how she hoped that we fully understood that she was truly a woman like all other women.
I was fairly glad tbh.

Mamaryllis · 21/05/2018 21:13

I was going to make a point and not go, but a - that would lead to all sorts of HR related ishoos. And b - I was mildly interested to see what she had to say.
So far, none of the obligatory pronouns on email signature blocks, nor mandatory pronoun rounds at meetings have been adopted.
I’d actually really like to invite her for a beer, and discuss what no one dared say at the meeting. I have no doubt that she would have me sacked though, just for wanting to discuss. And I need my job.

ErrolTheDragon · 21/05/2018 21:12

Mamaryllis - so was there a show of hands before and after, and if so how did it go ... were the women present under any constraint (other than their socialisation in Being Nice) to be honest?

Pratchet · 21/05/2018 21:02

Brave New World. Comply or Die.

SupermatchGame · 21/05/2018 21:00

Thank goodness. There aren't many places left.

No there aren't. I think that's called progress and civilisation.

Ereshkigal · 21/05/2018 20:57

Wow Mamaryllis. I think I'd have had a sudden illness come on.

Mamaryllis · 21/05/2018 20:54

Pratchet, that is absolutely true and it drives them mad. I sat through a mandatory trans awareness session at work, run by a transwoman in her late thirties/ early forties who had transitioned 2-3 years earlier (social transition, no surgery). Her opening gambit was to ask how many of the entirely biologically female audience truly believed she was a woman, and told us that the entire aim of her awareness trainingctraining session was to be able to ask the same question at the end and have everyone truly believe she was a woman. She even castigated us at one point that lip service towards pronouns wasn’t enough (the same lip service I am performing here) because transwomen can tell if you don’t mean it. And you have to truly believe it. There was a veiled sense of threat.
Sadly she shot herself in the foot with two hours of proving she had literally no idea how women have been socialized, proved that she wasn’t a woman by a series of complaints about how she was treated differently to how a woman should be treated, and displayed a large amount of male pattern entitlement to demand how women should think, behave and prioritise her needs.
But essentially, the entire session boiled down to ‘you must think the way I think, believe what I believe, and your own thoughts and opinions must be erased as they are contradictory to my own, and mine are more important.’ She was completely open that she badly wanted to control our thoughts.

Cwenthryth · 21/05/2018 20:33

Can you link Toetotoe? Can’t find it

Pratchet · 21/05/2018 20:15

Yy spontaneous: they won't be happy until we are completely silent, and they still won't be happy because they know that we know that everyone knows that they aren't women. We will still think it and they will know it and still be unhappy.

Ereshkigal · 21/05/2018 19:01

I think some of them actually mean this. 100 years after first getting the vote, they would take it away from us.

Oh they absolutely would.

ToeToToe · 21/05/2018 19:00

"These people are allowed to vote. Their actual votes are worth the same as mine..."

This from the MN twitter timeline.

I think some of them actually mean this. 100 years after first getting the vote, they would take it away from us.

spontaneousgiventime · 21/05/2018 17:53

Pratchet I doubt it. If MN FWR board stops allowing us to discuss it, I see it going into closed forums. The TRA will screech they can't see what we are saying then. Be careful what you wish for.

LangCleg · 21/05/2018 17:49

It’s a deliberate technique used to derail the discussion from the start.

Of course it is. And choice of tactic goes in waves. Recently, we've had appeals to female socialisation via endless lengthy autobiographies posted into as many random threads as possible. That was followed by a spate of calling out perceived hardliners by name - presumably with the aim of goading enough to get people suspended. Then we had a lot of JAQing. And now we seem to be in the middle of a spate of dictatorial, abusive people overtaking threads with cease and desist demands and insults. I'm sure we'll get to the end and start again at some point.

Pratchet · 21/05/2018 17:35

Is there anywhere else at all?

Noqonterfy · 21/05/2018 17:08

Luckily the average coven member here seems to posess decent critical thinking skills.

Thank goodness. There aren't many places left.

Bowlofbabelfish · 21/05/2018 17:01

No they probably aren’t. A significant number just turn on the tears rather than actually debate though.

That’s a direct line from no platforming at universities and the #nodebate crap. It leaves people unable to critically dissect what they’re trying to argue for or against.

Luckily the average coven member here seems to posess decent critical thinking skills.

Noqonterfy · 21/05/2018 16:56

Oh yes. Forgot about option 3. Although I'm not sure all of the people virtue signalling are aware they are doing this.

Bowlofbabelfish · 21/05/2018 16:53

Because I am starting to despair that some people are either refusing to see the concerns or they are simply too stupid to understand.

Or option 3. It’s a deliberate technique used to derail the discussion from the start. By painting themselves as an oppressed (the most oppressedest of the oppressed) they can take control. The opponent is now forced to spend debate time clarifying that no they don’t actually hate transpeople and that detracts from the points they want to raise and talk about.

Mamaryllis · 21/05/2018 16:51

That went well. Good job, huff. Another man that I would prefer to be excluded from female safe spaces. I don’t want my female children to be subjected to misogynistic narcissistic rage.

Haven’t heard ‘on the rag’ for years now. It’s lovely that transactivists are bringing back outdated sexist insults, as a way of demonstrating difference, huh? Hmm
