The right to bare arms.....for women only

As a man reading some of these threads, the fear women have of male violence is greater than I realised.

Is a 2nd amendment, for women, a solution?

Pro gun women in America say the gun is the great equaliser. They say it makes them safer. I think it's a good argument.

Alcohol doesn't change a persons fundamental personality. If someone has a propensity to violence then drinking alcohol doesn't change that it just makes them act on that propensity faster.
Ban men or at least have them microchipped so that women can access information about them, such as if they have been convicted of a violent or sexual crime or have a history of domestic abuse.
That's my solution. Its better than a gun.

Lweji · 16/05/2018 14:24

Maybe we should ban men instead. I'll keep the booze.

Moonkissedlegs · 16/05/2018 13:12

Sorry, I know that this is a serious subject, but that is the best thread title mistake ever! What a pun!

Kursk · 16/05/2018 13:10

A ban on alcohol would be step one. Violent would be cut in half overnight.

That’s been tried and it failed.......just like all other bans of stuff

Lweji · 16/05/2018 11:01

I've always thought it was "the right to arm bears"!

It's because of bears that we should be armed (not men). As per US education specialist and Education Secretary Betsy DeVos.

In case anyone missed it: www.theguardian.com/us-news/2017/jan/18/betsy-devos-guns-schools-grizzly-bears

QuinionsRainbow · 16/05/2018 10:55

Is it not the right to bear arms?

I've always thought it was "the right to arm bears"!

GlomOfNit · 15/05/2018 23:20

Nope. It's a stupid idea.

Next?

LassWiADelicateAir · 15/05/2018 22:27

If that person didn't need money then they wouldn't have robbed you

Really? That doesn't necessarily follow at all. They definitely wanted money , whether they needed it and this was the only way to get it is a big assumption.

Fucketynamechanged · 15/05/2018 22:01

Unfortunately everything we ban just seems to go underground and become more dangerous. Much better would be to invest in the issues people face that cause them to self medicate with various things - food, drugs, alcohol, sex etc

Lweji · 15/05/2018 21:17

due to the nature and magnitude of violence women face from me.

From you?

Alcohol is just an excuse to be violent.

ErrolTheDragon · 15/05/2018 21:09

A ban on alcohol would be step one. Violent would be cut in half overnight.

In theory. In practice, not sure that's how it worked out when the US tried prohibition.

whatnow123 · 15/05/2018 19:58

GardenGeek - Appreciated. I actually dont think guns are the answer. However, it could be argued that such a policy constitutes self defence, due to the nature and magnitude of violence women face from me.

If a society, like ours, was committed to reducing violence, no matter the cost. A ban on alcohol would be step one. Violent would be cut in half overnight.

Male violence is not inevitable - indeed human violence is not inevitable. Globally rates of homicide have fallen dramatically over the last few centuries (admittedly this data excludes death in war, which is why there is no massive spike presented for the Holocaust).

As Sardine says, social factors contribute hugely to rates of violence, as does alcohol and other drugs. These are things which can be addressed if we don't view violence as inevitable.

As for the pattern request for a cardigan for womanformallyknownaswoman what about Calligraphy or maybe Abbi Light.

A couple of years ago I got a few really lightweight tops with sleeves just below the elbow with an elasticated band then a nice small frill. They are lovely to wear in the summer and no wet sleeves.

AngryAttackKittens · 15/05/2018 17:47

So annoying when your sleeves slip down and get wet! And then you're sitting around with damp sleeves. Short or elbow length please.

spontaneousgiventime · 15/05/2018 17:42

AngryAttackKittens Ugh, I hate long sleeves when washing up or washing my hands. Long sleeves also get in the way when I'm busy if they're flappy. In summer I like vest tops and when I go out a thin top over it with mid length sleeves.

Eolian · 15/05/2018 16:50

Carrying a weapon makes it likely that weapon will be used against you. Nothing I have ever read about the right to bear arms in America makes me think I'd feel safer there. Quite the opposite in fact. Cardigans are good though.

AngryAttackKittens · 15/05/2018 16:48

The ideal society is a cross between a spaghetti Western and Escape From New York, apparently.

Fucketynamechanged · 15/05/2018 16:46

Slightly ironic that a mans answer to male violence is...

Female violence.

Just shoot em, folks! Hmm

ErrolTheDragon · 15/05/2018 16:29

Nothing to stop us using this thread for what it says in the title, kittens. Grin

AngryAttackKittens · 15/05/2018 16:23

I like them in that I don't like faffing about with long sleeves when I wash my hands, and sometimes it's not warm enough for short sleeves.

Also, OP, note that rather than persuading us all to for a British branch of the NRA you've disappointed people who were hoping to have a nice chat about sleeve lengths and cardigans. For shame.

ErrolTheDragon · 15/05/2018 16:18

I like layers and don't like baring my arms either - which is a problem in hot climates!

Linen shirt over a vest top can work.

I've got to the age of suddenly understanding the point of three-quarter length sleeves. SadGrin

AngryAttackKittens · 15/05/2018 16:17

What you need is one of those super thin and lightweight cotton cardigans that don't actually button, woman. They're flowy in a boho kind of way if you get the right one, and thin enough not to make you sweat like a pig.
