Nell doesn't even realise how much time Nell took up with waffle, thereby excluding others who wanted to talk, although it is itemised clearly in Lapdance's post. Such a lack of self-awareness. I was there too and totally missed the reception to Nell's speech that is outlined above. Rather more polite applause I thought.

Nell talks about divorce, and I have read this before. But would it be divorce or annulment? If you couldn't have marriage between two same-sex people, then surely if one became technically the 'other sex' for legal purposes, the marriage would be void and therefore annulled rather than having to apply for a divorce? And what ground would a spouse of such a person end the marriage on now - unreasonable behaviour?

Hoppinggreen · 10/06/2018 13:49

Massive applause?
Gave people permission to speak?
Narc bullshit

Ereshkigal · 10/06/2018 13:22

Yes indeed! Modesty is not a quality many of these people possess in great quantities.

hackmum · 10/06/2018 13:11

The hilarious thing about this is that there are few things more masculine than the tendency for the mediocre to inflate their importance out of all proportion to reality. If Nell wanted to be convincing as a woman, I'm afraid they'll need to learn a little more modesty and self-deprecation.

Ereshkigal · 10/06/2018 13:05

And WPUK usually take a few days or more to put up the speeches, don't they?

Ereshkigal · 10/06/2018 13:04

Yes. Nell is telling us who Nell is.

LangCleg · 10/06/2018 13:00

I talked for 10 minutes and not the 5 agreed.

How bloody typical is that? And Nell doesn't even know what an admission that is.

I wanted to take time from women who had spent time and money to attend this meeting and had as much right as I did to a fair share of the allotted time but I didn't give a shit about that, took that time from them, and regard this as a victory.

Such fucking sisterhood. Not.

sprouts2018 · 10/06/2018 12:46

The only accurate thing nell said is that they spoke for much longer than agreed.

SporadicSpartacus · 10/06/2018 12:00

‘It brought the house down’

LOL, no it didn’t. There was a bit of applause and a few uncomfortable giggles.

Oops, forgot images

I just came to post the same thing, Plectrum!

Nell’s version of events doesn’t quite match mine... Confused

(First page is from somebody else)

Applause was polite, not thunderous! Most of the speakers from the floor had pre-written notes so they were always intending to speak - they weren’t ‘given permission’

And you’d think there were no speakers at all opposing her stance!

I hope WPUK will release their recording soon or else Nell’s account will prevail Hmm

There are comments on twitter, with nell's report from their POV. If you go to Kristina Harrison's twitter, there's a tweet quoted with a copy of nell's account.

LapdanceShoeshine · 09/06/2018 15:11

did the speaker say that next time they're going to invite someone who disagrees with us? If so I wouldn't have much interest in that

Oh, I would, sprouts! There’s so much blocking & pointblank refusal to talk from the TRAs I think it would be great if one of them (pref able to listen as well as talk) would come.

LapdanceShoeshine · 09/06/2018 15:07

Little Nell was not at all keen on WPUK beforehand.

I don’t know if the total lack of hostility & aggression put her off, but as yet there’s no sign of the promised “full and honest report”

(But then there really wasn’t any sign of her promised debate...)

sprouts That was Nell. I think it's important to hear from people who disagree, and why, but self-ID won't help Nell.

sprouts2018 · 09/06/2018 14:09

I went with my husband and was sat in front of the woman from the refuge in the back row. We went to the Golden Lion first but couldn't see anyone.

I was disappointed that Nel was given special treatment. Why? I may have misunderstood, but did the speaker say that next time they're going to invite someone who disagrees with us? If so I wouldn't have much interest in that.

busyboysmum · 08/06/2018 23:48

Well yes but Nell lost me there TBH. As Nell will never be female. No matter whether we have self id or not. There is nothing that can be done to ever make Nell female. That's not our fault.

drspouse · 08/06/2018 20:39

My take from Nell was that she wanted her crime to be recorded as male on female, but would have to get a GRC to do that, and would have to no longer be married as a man to a woman to do that.
But I assume that self-ID works the same - if you ID as a woman officially you can't be married as you to the same person you were married to (unless this was before same sex marriage?)
Also I think a lot of us would want that assault recorded as male on transwoman, including a lot of trans rights people. Isn't that one of the main bones of contention over single sex spaces?

MrsWooster · 08/06/2018 19:00

It was lovely to meet you all- we really do need a MN flag to march under- tho I suspect Justine and all are HQ are blenching at the thought!! Amazing to be part of a group of women willing to fight for our rights. I desperately regret my liberal quasi feminist years, prioritising men because I have missed this sense of sisterhood. I was sat at the front and missed the chuntering so came away impressed by the tolerance, mutual respect and desire, shared by Kristina and the panel and most of the audience, to secure safety for women AND trans.

Maginwoods · 08/06/2018 17:19

It was great to see it so well attended! I remember the one commenter who didn't get applauded - she said something about not objecting if her mother was on a hospital ward with a transwoman. She didn't say if her mother would object - and in any case she didn't seem to take in the difference that self id might make.

Everyone was very polite though - and I found all the speakers really interesting. Sadly I couldn't stay - but I think I sat in front of a MNer who (I think) was with her DH - and I saw CraftyFox's cute baby. (In fact weren't there two babies there?)

Hoppinggreen · 08/06/2018 10:36

Ha ha! I’ve just been brainwashed by DS

JoyTheUnicorn · 08/06/2018 10:08

BusyBoys, you must have been sitting near me, I could hear the sighing and yawning - it was very distracting! I was reminded of Jane Fae too.
I found Kristina hard to follow due to the problems with the microphone.

WichBitchHarpyTerfThatsMe · 08/06/2018 09:40

Thank you Hoppinggreen, she is a star. She wants to swap mum's however as you're far more interested in Minecraft than I am!

WichBitchHarpyTerfThatsMe · 08/06/2018 09:36

Agree about Nell who was having a pity party for one. The police did sound to have responded to the complaint properly. His wife didn't agree to him transitioning so the nasty authorities were going to force them to get a divorce when she was going through such an awful time. MEMEMEMEME!

Nell was also in the women's loos when I went but scuttled out quietly.

As for Amanda from the women's refuge I agree totally Sporadic, any place taken by a trans woman is a place lost to a biological woman.

However, people were allowed to state their views without any heckling, people listened quietly and politely even when it was clear that the audience didn't agree.

Interestingly when I first got to the pub and met up with Ancientlights we were at the bar looking around to try and spot any other MNers intending to meet up we both noticed a rather nervous looking woman sat on her own. I went over and asked her quietly if she was there to meet up with people. She looked at me confused and I realised I sounded like I was trying to hit on her! I quickly explained that a group of us who hadn't met each other before were meeting up, apologised and made my retreat. That woman turned out to be Kristina the trans woman on the panel. So, interestingly, she 'passed' with me with took me by surprise afterwards.

Hoppinggreen · 08/06/2018 09:28

wichbitch miniwichbitch is fab, you must be very proud of her
The non binary lots attitude was we work in mental health and we know more about this than anyone and as we don’t think it’s an issue then you shouldn’t.
There was also someone who said that they worked in healthcare and had never met anyone who would have a problem with their elderly mother sharing a hospital room with a TW - again utter crap
There was a very dismissive and patronising attitude from some quarters
