Dr Adrian Harrop, who the funk does he think he is?

If you're not familiar with this supposed physician (yes, really), then you need to get over to Twitter and see this.

Harrop seems to spend most of his time harassing and insulting natal women whilst unquestionably supporting trans women. He is hiding behind his "medical expertise" and using it to shout women down.

It's both hilarious and terrifying! Shock

Sure, he might be going for trying to be like a rebel and aiming more at a media/political career. It might help, rather than hinder him. On the other hand, it seems like he is trying to speak as a doctor, with all the authority that gives him.

A formal complaint may not lead anywhere.

However, I can think of a few more conflicts of his Twitter behaviour with the GMC's Good Medical Practice. Because his way of addressing members of the "public," could legitimately make people worried about his ability to care for the individual "patient" in the following arenas:

31. You must listen to patients, take account of their views, and respond honestly to their questions.

32. You must give patients the information they want or need to know in a way they can understand. You should make sure that arrangements are made, wherever possible, to meet patients’ language and communication needs

33. You must be considerate to those close to the patient and be sensitive and responsive in giving them information and support

46. You must be polite and considerate.

54. You must not express your personal beliefs (including political, religious and moral beliefs) to patients in ways that exploit their vulnerability or are likely to cause them distress

It may be a reach, but Dr Harrop's behaviour online has undermined my faith in his ability to follow at least these GMC guidelines. It is not completely inconceivable that some kind of case could be built if there were enough voices chiming in regarding feeling that their confidence in him is low, and if one could link specific behaviour to each point. I think the hardest link to make is whether this behaviour has actually resulted in patient mistreatment in practice, but I do know that the GMC cares about the public image of the medical profession. I don't know if anyone wants to do this, or thinks it would be beneficial. And I really don't know what the GMC would do about it.

All I do know that I wouldn't trust that I would be fairly treated by him, if he knew my beliefs. And he makes me worry that he would be sexist towards me.

[heresyandwitchcraft quote] "I've only skim-read this, but I think he is absolutely in breach of the GMC's social media guidance. "
I wonder if he is partly hoping to be a cause célèbre and acquire reputational, celebrity-pundit value by virtue of virtual martyrdom through being reported to the GMC?

That said, on a cursory look around, I can't see any helpful guidance on how outlandish a social media comment would need to be such that it would fail this, "your conduct justifies your patients’ trust in you and the public’s trust in the profession". In general, there is a very low conversion of complaints to hearings.

Outdated but a Telegraph piece has this:
[Telegraph quote ] Complaints from the public to the GMC doubled between 2007 and 2012 to reach around 6,000 it was found.
However only 1,000 of these were fully investigated and only a handful resulted in formal Fitness to Practice hearings.
Telegraph GMC item

Yes he was. In order, he has proudly tweeted his support for the green party then conservative then Labour. A matter of months after tweeting his membership of LGBT conservatives he was on TV giving interviews about the junior doctors strikes.

He will jump on any cause that will give him even the smallest bit of publicity I suspect because he wants a media career. That is what this is all about.

This happens all the time. It's leg crossingly creepy.

Indeed.

Have you seen the Twitter account that 'woofs' at alleged transphobic tweets?^

Yes that's what I was referring to. That's what Adrian wants to do. He has seen the racism one but doesn't appear to realise the transphobia "watchdog" account already exists.

heresyandwitchcraft · 17/06/2018 12:10

I've only skim-read this, but I think he is absolutely in breach of the GMC's social media guidance.

Especially this bit:

You must make sure that your conduct justifies your patients’ trust in you and the public’s trust in the profession.

The pomposity from TRA around 'correctly gendering' is risible. It's so obviously men relishing control over women and thinking their relish is undetectable.

BoreOfWhabylon · 17/06/2018 10:53

He's flailing around trying to establish his USP in order to get himself a career in the media.

Not had much luck so far, has he?

GeordieTerf · 17/06/2018 10:43

I'm so bored of this prick.

I'm disappointed that the parody account has gone too! Sad

Set it up Adrian!

It’s illegal under GDPR, so maybe think about that first eh?

Doesn't he realise that there is already some other saddo that does that?

NotTerfNorCis · 17/06/2018 08:51

Some people are just in it for the attention, aren't they.

Wasn't this guy a Tory five minutes ago?

sorry, I'll try again.

I think that time spent tweeting and the occasional distraction of actually having a full time job paid for by the tax payer is limiting Adrian's earnings at present.

Kyanite · 16/05/2018 10:07

Here's a link to that Twitter post with the photo.

JustABrokenDoll · 15/05/2018 23:25

@Tinlegs - he popped in to tell me it was ok because it was some mate's fancy dress party (because that's a great excuse to parody women).

It really doesn't help transwomen who are fighting against the 'just men in wigs and dresses' argument though. Not much of a trans ally when you dig beneath the surface.

Still, I'm proper honoured he showed up to pass comment, being a mere woman and all that Smile

AnotherQuoll · 15/05/2018 23:16

He's still in training, so not registered as a gp. But he's so enthusiastic about it all, I think he could well turn out to be a g p anyway.

thecraftyfox · 15/05/2018 23:07

I hope he has done self crit/penance foe daring to wear drag. Not because it is offensive to women but because drag might cause literally millions of TIMs to die of being confused for men in frocks.

Tinlegs · 15/05/2018 22:14

And he has admitted to them being him - both in the screenshot and in subsequent tweets.

Tinlegs · 15/05/2018 22:12

Saw these on Twitter. Womanface? Or trans?

Terfing · 15/05/2018 20:56

@JustABrokenDoll yes, that's right next to Newcastle... interesting.

JustABrokenDoll · 15/05/2018 17:01

@Terfing "Interestingly, from his Tweet location, he seems to be not far from Newcastle"

His company is registered in Tyne & Wear.
