Google alogorithms don't function properly for mumsnet posters and threads.

I mean it doesn't direct you to material and leaves masses out. Searching for example 'supermatch mumsnet plus a key word I was looking for (I lost track of threads' just doesn't bring up the material. The word was Djehne (I checked sp do it was correct) and 'also transgender and Sweden. Also 'confounding variable' which is unusual and which I had used. The results don't come forward.

I posted on the genderquake thread, but it wasn’t showing in threads I’m on, nor was it showing in FWR. I had to type it into the search box to get to the thread.

It is probably too late to be of interest to anyone, but I tried the site checker thingy (I'm as technical as waddle ) and first attempt said it was up, but next two refreshes showed it down.

Can we at least agree which hashtag to follow for the alternative MN coverage so that if a DDOS takes this site down, we can follow vicariously on Twitter? I don't have an active Twitter account, but I lurk lots.

Hi all,

Yes - the site went down temporarily, but back up and running now (obviously). Tech are investigating; they aren't sure what it was yet.

@whingeyarse 'ddos' = distributed denial of service'.
A denial of service attack is a co-ordinated effort to bombard a website with so many requests that their server cant cope with the load and the site becomes unavailable.

Yes it went down for me for around 10 mins too. I have been expecting a ddos attack for months and am surprised it hasn't happened yet!

I went back through google and it let me onto mumsnet home page so site would appear to have been ok but then couldn't access anything else.

I had a go slow on the Genderquake thread too. Most odd. Still, it made me get off MN and go top up DS's dinner money account, so all good. Grin

Yep, went down for me when I was reading the genderquake thread too and my first thought was that it was a ddos.

Yes, and yes I agree. They'll have tried already, I bet. But MN improved their system since the Jeffrey hack. Seems Jeffrey was good for something.
