Ironically, Munroe and Caitlynn are forcing the agenda linking trans as predators when Sarah is trying to make a real point

greystripedteepee · 08/05/2018 22:21

Actually I probably mean dystopian

CircleofWillis · 08/05/2018 22:21

Just watching the ads. Anyone suggest large number of mumsnet tees would be tuning in?

Bi11yOneMate · 08/05/2018 22:21

So many teens feel like they don't fit.
So many teens have issues with how they look, and their changing bodies. Ffs I was anorexic and HAIRY. I KNOW.
It's too easy to identify with whatever "outcast" misfit trend is around at the time, but the trans trend has so much longer term serious physical affects than any before.
I'd rather they pierced themselves with safety pins and identify as a goth than cut bits off themselves.

(I was too nerdy to be a goth or punk but I really wanted to Grin )

greystripedteepee · 08/05/2018 22:20

This is all a utopian novel, yes? Oh no.

rogueantimatter · 08/05/2018 22:20

Caitlin Jenner being allowed to prattle on. Germaine Greer being shushed. Again 🤔

Italiangreyhound · 08/05/2018 22:19

@JustABrokenDoll I will see if I can find it. I could be wrong. It is no unheard of! Wink

Destinysdaughter · 08/05/2018 22:18

Ooh Sarah is good! And yes in the eighties we had Prince and Grace Jones who were genuinely gender fluid, but didn't think they had to mutilate their bodies to be true to themselves. Wasn't that more progressive?

Bi11yOneMate · 08/05/2018 22:15

WazFlimFlam agreed.

clumsyduck · 08/05/2018 22:14

Gender constructs have a lot to answer for

" I feel 70 % woman "
How do you ?? How do you feel 70% like you have a womb and a vagina ??

You don't , you feel 70% like what you understand to be feminine because of a social construct .

And people undergo life changing surgery as young as teens because of this feeling? It's scary

WazFlimFlam · 08/05/2018 22:14

Bi11yOneMate I felt very sorry for Saffron, she just needed to be told it was ok to not be as pretty as some other women, and just be who you want to be. She seemed quite surprised to reach that conclusion at the end. It was a bit sad and reinforced a lot of my prejudices about a lot of this crap tbh

Bi11yOneMate · 08/05/2018 22:10

I had huge huge empathy for all of them. And I felt incredibly sad that the seemingly only solution for some of them was to undergo surgery on healthy, well functioning bodies.
Ignoring the wider issues of sexual cross dressing fetishists and potential sex offenders coming under the now incredibly broad trans umbrella - there still must be a better way to help people accept that their personalities CAN exist in the bodies they have. And they can dress and act how they like as long as no harm comes to others.
Seriously, can the medical profession find no better answer?

WazFlimFlam · 08/05/2018 22:08

So channel 4 set up a documentary that was supposed to present gender essentialism as something to aspire to and ended up with them all calling for gender erasure and for a stop to using labels. Interesting.

Destinysdaughter · 08/05/2018 22:08

31 different genders?? WTF has happened to the world...?

NotTerfNorCis · 08/05/2018 22:08

The presenter seems a little nervous here. Channel Four obviously realise they opened a can of worms.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 08/05/2018 22:08

I'm sure I just spotted Julia Long in the audience

greystripedteepee · 08/05/2018 22:08

Wow I've never heard Jenner speak before. Thought her voice would be different

Destinysdaughter · 08/05/2018 22:06

Caitlyn reminds me of Trump, the way she blathers on!

JustABrokenDoll · 08/05/2018 22:05

@Italiangreyhound - I didn't hear that bit re: Markus, probably popped to the loo - I'm watching on catch-up and it won't pause. I came back part way through Romario's face to face with their mum (which I must admit brought a tea to my eye).

Max's story also had me in tears when I watched it recently.

cistersofterfy · 08/05/2018 22:05

Quite nervous for this debate...

BerkInBag · 08/05/2018 22:03

Filomena was erased from that ending, no?

theaveragewife · 08/05/2018 22:02

I’m sure they just all agreed gender is bullshit.

greystripedteepee · 08/05/2018 22:02

Some of them barely featured at all.

spontaneousgiventime · 08/05/2018 22:01

Aaaagh... My daughter kept me on the phone until around 10 minutes ago. I managed to escape to watch the debate but missed the program.

MrsWooster · 08/05/2018 21:59

So a load of young people saying they are proud to be themselves, in whatever form that takes. Where does that leave the transwomen are women argument?
