“I’m not an easy man” Netflix

Or «Je suis pas un homme facile» originally.

Fun feminist French film on Netflix where the womanising protagonist wakes up in an alternate world where men are constantly objectified and women hold all the power.

It’s a bit like What Women Want but so much better. Plus it has some cool Parisian chic going on (not the point I know Blush) and an amazing ending.

Has anyone seen it? And if not can you please hurry up watch it then come back and discuss it with me? Grin

Glitter, the sex isn’t very graphic. IIRC. Your son might feel uncomfortable about other scenes but the sex was quite mild.

My DS is doing A level French. Should I suggest it to him? Just saw sex scene mentioned-so I’m wondering.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 30/04/2018 12:27

I watched it yesterday I really enjoyed it thank for the recommendation

It was the little details that really made the film rather than the interaction between the two main characters

The sex scene was very amusing and well I could relate to that

QueenPenelope · 30/04/2018 12:14

Thank you for the recommendation- I watched it yesterday and really enjoyed it. The attention to detail was excellent and the imagery at the end was striking after spending the duration of the film in to Alex’s world.
It seemed that she, like Damien, took it too far and was then sent to his world as a punishment/ reminder of her privilege. Oh to know where that portal is!

IfyouseeRitaMoreno · 30/04/2018 07:08

Also the scene where Lolo was watching rugby on the sofa with her daughter and it was evident the child was being socialised into her privileged behaviour.

Yes I remember when I was a kid watching my dad and bro watching sports on TV thinking how nice it would be if people would gather round to watch women excel at something.

The problem is men will always have the upper hand because of physical strength. I can’t imagine a world where women are considered superior because of their physical ability to give birth.

I watched this last night. I loved how detailed it was. At the party the editor introduced a woman by her name and introduced her partner simply as "her husband" there was no attempt to give him a separate identity. Also the scene where Lolo was watching rugby on the sofa with her daughter and it was evident the child was being socialised into her privileged behaviour.

She had hairy pits, but super smooth legs. Cannot comment on her bikini line, as she had baggy grey boxers in the sex scenes. Grin

QuentinSummers · 29/04/2018 21:53

I thought she had hairy pits in the shower. Maybe I am misremembering

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 29/04/2018 21:10

Just watching - I noticed (disappointedly) that unlike the comedy flash of hairy boss ankle, that Alexandra seemed to remove all of her body hair.

I guess a hairy heroine not played for laughs was just a step too far

What was the significance of the obsessive teeth brushing? It had resolved itself in his last session with the counsellor.

IfyouseeRitaMoreno · 29/04/2018 18:49

Yeah I think part of the reason he wanted her was because she'd said no to her in the first world and being the type of guy he was he liked the chase.

I was kind of Confused as to whether Alexandra knew of the other world. In the initial meeting scene when he was being all slimey/flirty and said " when will we see each other again?!" she gave an enigmatic look and responded "in another life".

So I thought she perhaps knew of the other world and could choose individual sexist men and plonk them in an opposite world for a bit of "re-education". That would be a lovely superpower to have Grin

I think her physique and looks were broadly supposed to be the equivalent of his. In his world he was unusually good looking which is why he could flirt with anyone and have sex with loads of women, and Alexandra was pretty much the same in her world.

I did think that the film made a very good point about physical strength being the most important factor in which sex was dominant. They obviously didn't have the special effects budget to change the proportions of the main characters but they showed almost all the couples with the man being shorter, Alexandra comments on how unusually tall Damian is, and when they were discussing pre-historic mankind Alexandra says that women were always the stronger ones physically.

I did love his landing strip chest and laughed a little every time his bare chest was on screen. As I was watching it I wondered if he was genuinely being waxed while being filmed.

I could see why she fell for him, but I didn't think that enough reason given for him to fall for her. They sort of covered it in the bit where they went away and watched racing and had lots of sex, it hinted that his perfect woman had always been a man's personality in a woman's body, but tbh she was a bit of a shit and I think a man who had been brought up in a male-dominant world wouldn't have stuck with her for that long.

RemainOptimistic · 29/04/2018 13:08

The women looking like models is a missed opportunity. Much better to have them presented as men do, can't write any descriptive words as don't want to offend!

AntiGrinch · 29/04/2018 12:54

This was a fun film. I agree, Alexandra looked totally fabulous. I love the way that she positioned herself as an ethical heroine by not "taking advantage" of drunk men, and announcing it as a very admirable Woman of Principle. With no regard to the millions of ways she takes advantage of men all the time, and her entire position was propped up by men.

However. As a short, curvy woman, I still felt alienated by her beautiful lean height being such an important part of her grandeur. To our eyes it would perhaps be impossible to make a film that glamorises more common womanly physiques. The busty, curvy, cuddly woman can be sexualised but not respected. I would have loved to see those shapes somehow accentuated and ruling the world, instead of a woman whose height competes with the height of men being at the top of the hierarchy

AnyFucker · 29/04/2018 10:46

.

IfyouseeRitaMoreno · 29/04/2018 10:42

Interesting. Why do you think that? The definitions I can find on google don’t seem to mention equality vs hierarchy.

Nothing scientific or research based, just from experience about what women talk about.

Actually this sounds a bit bizarre but if you look at movies aimed at men and women. These movies are geared at what they think the different sexes want. You can watch many “man” movies that have barely any female characters (except the love / sex interest and the strident female boss) but “woman” movies have many parts for men and are often centred around relationships with men.

What I mean is I don’t think will have any interest in dominating or placing themselves at the top of the hierarchy in the way that patriarchy has.

It was a shock when they went back to the real world, with the women in high heels, brothel (?) exteriors and sexy underwear adverts.

Yep. That is what I liked too. Sometimes I go past advertisements of smiley slim women in poses that are coquettish and appealing in a quasi submissive way and I experience a brief moment of “wokeness”, of WTF! Why never men?

Which is what Alexandra felt like. Her suits were fantastic weren’t they?!

JurgenKloppsCat · 29/04/2018 08:44

But yes, I've always believed that a matriarchy wouldn't harm men to the same extent that a patriarchy harms women, because one is tends to equality and the other to hierarchy.

Interesting. Why do you think that? The definitions I can find on google don’t seem to mention equality vs hierarchy.

TheChampagneGalop · 29/04/2018 08:29

Alexandra looked so good! You'd think that the men would wear even more colorful and revealing outfits though...
It was a shock when they went back to the real world, with the women in high heels, brothel (?) exteriors and sexy underwear adverts. It really brought home how sick patriarchy is without showing much.

QuentinSummers · 29/04/2018 08:11

I loved Alexandra. Total badass.
I loved the topless woman running too Grin

boatyardblues · 29/04/2018 08:01

The landing strip was pointedly stupid and funny for it. I equally liked Alexandra’s wardrobe full of comfortable, sober attire and flat shoes and how, when Damien arrived at her flat the first time in his hotty suit and slip on shoes, he also took his popsock shoeliners off with his pretty brogues.

QuentinSummers · 28/04/2018 22:36

Just finished it. Loved it. Especially Damians chest landing strip Grin
Is it the same guy who made that short thing about sexual assault a couple of years ago?

BrownTurkey · 28/04/2018 22:19

Its the small details, like all the advertising posters having men posing with mouth open.

Greymisty · 28/04/2018 19:50

Agree OP*

Greymisty · 28/04/2018 19:49

Agree OK I thought the point of the film was to freshen your eyes to the ridiculousness of the pressures and the culture surrounding women. I watched parts and giggled because how silly is it to shape chest hair? Implausible. And then its like oh we do heart shapes for muffs. Seeing it in reverse really made me question what I take as 'normal'.
