"Cis allies" being asked to provide "protection"

Can we talk about something that seems to be happening a lot at the moment: "cis allies" (note the " " ) are being asked to, in essence, prove their ally credentials but also take the risk and do the hard work apparently in order to protect transwomen (in particular) and transmen from attacks by terfs.

Just in the last week or so, there has been the video of the protestors on the stairs at the Jam Jar venue, which Bristol Sisters has claimed are "cis allies". There was a call out for "cis allies" to escort trans people home at night because they were scared that the terfs were in town and thus trans people were at risk of violent attack. The Free the She Wolf campaign explicitly asked for "cis allies" to attend the protest outside court in order to provide a human shield to protect the trans protesters who were going to be there.

And it's not just in person that "cis allies" are expected to get involved. When I posted the NUS slide presentation on "How to deal with terfs", one of the authors tweeted something along the lines of "Urgh, can a cis ally sort this out", and lo and behold a few new posters popped onto the thread to object to it, and of course MsIntern tweeted that she would get some of her MNHQ pals to take it down. (The slides also contain the suggestion that delegates "put yourself in between trans people and the TERFS")

What is going on here? How is the narrative growing that trans people are a) at significant risk of physical harm from terfs whilst also b) being significantly weaker than "cis allies" so they need their protection? Why are so many people apparently so keen to do this - to prove their woke credentials? Because they are hanging onto the coat tails of an exciting new movement and want to remain part of the gang? Why are so many of them women, when surely if you were looking for bouncers and security guards to keep you safe, you would want big burly men? (Pesky biology meaning that they are stronger than terfs)

Is this a new phenomenon? Have straight women always been asked to sacrifice themselves to the cause for no reward? Or is this just the TRA equivalent of making the sandwiches and putting away the chairs at the end of the meeting?

Bonkers. But does anyone have any idea what 'MN users call for new section 28' is about?
I was campaiging against section 28 before most of this lot were born, I think I'd have noticed is someone on here talked about bringing it back.

I wonder what it is about real women that scares them so much. Mummy issues

In some cases, yes. In others, I strongly suspect that it is because they feel that history has denied them the privilege of having women as their legal inferiors. I honestly think that a large number of men see women as things, not people. In some cases, it is all about anger that women won't spread their legs on demand. I also suspect that a lot of the hatred that some gay men have for women is not about wanting to be women, but about not having a woman (like their het counterparts) to feed their egos and do their shit work. Finally, I think it is about the way sons are raised by so many mothers where a woman sacrifices herself for the prodigal son (all very Freudian). Men expect all women to act like that and they don't. Yeah, probably offended everybody now.

It’s so obvious what’s going on: men telling boys and girls that they are special and so ‘woke’ to do their bidding. ‘Be on the right side of history’. Not allowed to think for themselves or disagree or you’ll cop for it.

Behaviour typical of an abusive person I’d say.

Pink News today:
The terminology and definitions we use to describe different LGBT+ groups of people are constantly evolving to become more inclusive and representative.
The initialism QTIPOC can be political and is commonly used in activist circles to highlight the varied experiences of queer and non-binary people of colour, the UK-based organisation GIRES (Gender Identity Research and Education Society) explains.

This is because, as the charity points out, queer, transgender, intersex and People of Colour “often experience intersecting oppressions on the basis of race, gender, sexual orientation and other factors.”

“These words carry significance as they were coined by People of Colour and QTIPOC communities – these words were created by us and for us,” the organisation states.

The concept of intersectionality is central to understanding the importance of the term QTIPOC.

"Have straight women always been asked to sacrifice themselves to the cause for no reward?"

Sexuality has nothing to do with transgender issues. Shows how little you understand about them.

Noqonterfy · 23/04/2018 09:39

I think you're right bowl. I reckon that is what is behind it. Definitely.

Bowlofbabelfish · 23/04/2018 09:34

God the typos. Sorry. You get my gist hopefully.

Anyway I think that’s why feminism should be intersectional to a point - white Male rage and entitlement is a biggie. It’s not the SOLE cause of misogynistic rage by any means and I think ‘if it’s not intersectional it’s not feminism’ is ridiculous but there’s a fair overlap there - at least when you’re dealing with th kind of white entitled male red piller that’s around.

Bowlofbabelfish · 23/04/2018 09:31

A post on the roots of misogynistic rage would be pretty interesting!

I think recently it’s fermenting In alt right circles too - previously, just existing as a white male was enough to make you top of the tree. Now that the world is (thankfully) a bit more equal, being just a white male isn’t enough if you’re a bit dim, a bit unpleasant or a bit lazy. You’re competing in a global pool that includes some very very smart people including women from all over the world.
A portion of these men think they are entitled to success and a submissive hot chick just because they exist. Only he world doesn’t work like that. If you want to be successful you have to work at it, and you’re competing against people from all over. And the world doesn’t dispense hot submissive women like prizes for existing - if you want women to fuck you willingly and you’re not a billionaire or wothvthe looks of Adonis you need to treat them like fellow human beings with respect.

And then I think those men get angry, they can’t see that it’s deficiencies in their core personality that’s leading them to not be rich, or to have hot submissive women throwing themselves at them. They don’t have the self awareness to think ‘hang on, if I work harder, have the humility to learn, and don’t wrote songs on you tube about smashing women’s earth out with a brick of they disobey me.... maybe I’ll do better at work and women might talk to me in the pub...’
No - they put the locus off blame squarely outside themselves. Women are frigid bitches ( and simultaneously golddiggin whores who only go for rich Adoniss). Not actual humans who prefer men who treat them with respect...
... The world is an unfair conspiracy, run by (oh I don’t know it’s tiring to keep up - insert your choice of whoever here. Jews. Black people. Feminists. Big pharma. Whoever the bogeyman du jour is...)

Much easier to go on red pill type websites and rant about keeping those uppity feminists in their place.

Noqonterfy · 23/04/2018 09:26

I think it's to pitch the women up against eachother. An attempt to divide and rule, but also if the 'allies' are there the they get to take the blame rather than the menz hitting the women. I have never ever heard of a so called TERF attacking a trans person. It may have happened, but I doubt it. The real violence comes from men.

R0wantrees · 23/04/2018 09:14

"Ms Johnston said: ‘She (Liz Truss MP) is giving kudos to Mumsnet who are particularly vicious on this particular front. Truss could be investigated for backing a group that is effectively advocating violence against the transgender community. She may be a terf in disguise." (Daily Mail discussion link below)

Delia Johnson has been involved with a number of sporting organisations/charities and influential in developing transgender inclusion policies in sports. In the Metro article below (October 2015) Delia comments, ‘I am unbelievably fortunate,’ she says. ‘I worked for London 2012 for a year… I’ve met celebrities, politicians and sports stars".

Mumsnet= 'particularly viscous' 'effectively advocating violence'
Liz Truss (MP)= 'may be a terf'
Action required= 'investigation' by allies? leading to censure / punishment?

James Kirkup asked why was it that legal and political authorities were not listening to the concerns of some women,
"It’s because those women have been – quite successfully and even skilfully – demonised and stigmatised, put beyond the pale of civilised debate as those who question orthodoxy often are. They’ve been given a name, a name that means they’re bad people, people who should not speak and should not be heard. That name is “Terf,” which once meant “Trans Exclusionary Radical Feminist” but now appears to stand in its own right as a term of abuse and dismissal alongside the other short, harsh words often used to question the worth and virtue of women.
And that small number of people who direct violence and abuse at “Terfs” are swimming in a larger sea of contempt and dismissal. Their conduct takes place in a social context where hostility to “Terfs” has become not just normal but even amusing, where there is no social cost to talking about and perhaps even inciting violence towards women who hold “unacceptable” views. Simply, some people, including people who would never themselves engage in that sort of violence, are doing things that make violent discourse and even violence look and feel OK. Sadly, they include journalists and politicians, people who parade their support for minority groups but speak about feminist women in terms they would never use about other people."

womanformallyknownaswoman · 23/04/2018 07:42

I think its projected anger often - they're angry at their father but the mother's the one more present and available to take their anger out on. Should we set up a separate post- it's very interesting subject?

This isn't the source of my supposition however is evidence towards it :):

In their final statements, inmates express the most gratitude and sorrow to their mothers. This isn’t too surprising: studies have shown that nearly all death row inmates “have a history of parental abandonment, foster care and/or institutionalization.” Typically, the mother is more present than the father in their lives.

I do tend to get a mental image of a tantruming baby with a red face waving its rattle around, now that you mention it...

Springnowplease · 23/04/2018 07:16

womanformallyknownaswoman · 23/04/2018 07:11

@AngryAttackKittens Your comment evoked a mind picture of baby boys tantrumming cos "Mum took my ball away".

AngryAttackKittens · 23/04/2018 06:53

A few years ago the same guys would have joined Fathers For Justice. There's always a new frontier to be found on the try to get the legal system to assist you in your quest to abuse women front.

"Mumsnet regulars are derailing my troll thread" has also been added to the wannable abuser handbook. If MRAs applied to same persistence to anything else that they do to harassing women they'd all be as rich as Bill Gates.

womanformallyknownaswoman · 23/04/2018 06:29

Yep I agree - they are thugs - I mean, after all, who would get their rocks off abusing women? Certainly not men of character. The guys in that video are the present and future abusers of women.

I reckon that's why some MRAs take on the form of transidentified women - using it as a cover so to speak - they have run out of space to perpetrate in intimate relationships - all have a history of being rejected by women from my anecdotal observations - so they have to find new playing fields. They are not interested in being, or advocating for women, - despite what they say, their behaviour and words tell a different story - it's all about their sexual entitlement - as all male abusers

thebewilderness · 23/04/2018 06:15

These are the classroom bullies. You remember them. The sneaky underhanded behind your back ones? They are all grown up now and have found their niche as SJWs bullying women for the misogynist brigade.

womanformallyknownaswoman · 23/04/2018 06:13

My opinion is it's helpful to start using legal language to describe these tactics - to repeat like a broken record they are threatening too kill us and are coercive control tactics such as stalking and harassment to stop our liberty. This is against the law (which it is). I really hope the women at Bristol reported the crimes that were committed - and again Paladin may be the place to get help - the stalking advocacy service - get Laura up to speed.

Kyanite · 23/04/2018 06:10

It is also shows how they don't want to just lead a normal life, they want to play the victim card and get as much attention as possible.

Kyanite · 23/04/2018 06:09

I guess they feel a need to have a cause to get behind...as if things aren't bad enough in this country to find a worthy cause. Reddit and Tumblr are main sources, apparently.

MadBadDaddy · 23/04/2018 05:16

Where are all the bruised and bloody victims of this terrible feminist vendetta? Wouldn't photos of injuries, etc. be heavily promoted for all they were worth?

NotTerfNorCis · 22/04/2018 21:57

Sometimes I look at this and think, it's just kids playing a game. Two of those lads who blocked the stairs in Bristol have been gloating and insulting people on Julie Bindel's Facebook page. They're getting off on telling adults (at least, women) what to do and pretending there's a big drama involving them being persecuted saints.

smithsinarazz · 22/04/2018 21:54

With you, Tallulah.
