For those who don't know, this footage was taken last night in Bristol as women tried to get into a meeting organised to discuss the Gender Recognition Act. Fortunately, they did get in in the end and the meeting went ahead. The live stream is here: www.facebook.com/TheJamJarBristol/videos/793672257494647/

The police were apparently outside in force but the activists had got in first. (A group called Sisters Uncut is probably mainly responsible. A lot of people are calling them Misters Uncut for obvious reasons.)

there is a serious conversation about safe spaces for cis-gendered women to be had

there is a serious conversation about safe spaces for women to be had

Fixed that for you.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 21/04/2018 22:40

Bet you a tenner half these people aren't trans at all

You'd lose your tenner. Most posters on FWR are trans going by Stonewalls definition...

thebewilderness · 21/04/2018 22:40

Sisters Uncut took credit for these terrorist actions in Bristol.

Abouttoblow · 21/04/2018 22:39

Absolutely fucking apalling!!

I watched the live feed and heard them mention this but had no idea how bad it was.

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 21/04/2018 22:38

Bet you a tenner half these people aren't trans at all. They're entitled posh boys reinterpreting identity politics to bolster their white male privilege

HermionesRightHook · 21/04/2018 22:38

Regardless of whether she's right or wrong, whether I'm right or wrong, on this issue, that's a disgusting way to behave and those little shits should be ashamed of themselves for stifling legitimate debate and discussion from a different marginalised perspective.

For the record, I am completely pro-trans rights and I think Julie Bindel is on the wrong side of history. But I also think that there is a serious conversation about safe spaces for cis-gendered women to be had. I disagree with her but she's a serious journalist and a serious feminist and the only way to work through this serious issue is by talking, not dicking about on the stairs like aggressive 8 year olds trying to bully their siblings.

AncientLights · 21/04/2018 22:38

Can this be passed to the police? I think I heard on the video that the organisers were blocked in downstairs, so took that to mean they were effectively being held prisoner by these piles of shit, or did I mishear? I know the bunch we saw kept oh so kindly telling the women they were free to leave, so weren't 'imprisoning' them but surely some offence of some sort was committed? Not that the little shits could be recognised because they're such cowards they cover their faces.

MsMcWoodle · 21/04/2018 22:36

From what I understand the police were around but not active or visible.

Poppyred85 · 21/04/2018 22:35

Where were the police in all this? I heard someone (Julie? Heather?) say they were already in there. Why weren’t they dealing with these people or if they couldn’t leave where they were asking for support?

DamnDeDoubtanceIsSpartacus · 21/04/2018 22:33

If they remade the young ones Rick would be trans wouldn't he, or non binary. This is misogyny, pure and simple, this is why women have been persecuted in the past, women who speak up are easy to hate.

StealthNinjaMum · 21/04/2018 22:33

Petition link for anyone who thinks women shouldn't be silenced.

That woman in Magdalen's video. 'You f* c*! My pronouns are they!'. Jesus. H. Christ

YY. Were they wearing a badge or something? I'm not quite sure how Bern's was meant to know this individual wished to be known by a pronoun other than the one used to denote their sex.

Wanderabout · 21/04/2018 22:30

Not being psychic about my inner gender identity and using matching preferred language = evil

Shouting at woman loudly and aggressively that she is a cunt = what? Righteous indignation?

MissTeri 100x yes.

I can not believe the police were in attendance and allowed this.

Its absolutely disgraceful behaviour, designed to intimidate. Thank God they were so pathetic and useless the event continued regardless.

What utter self centred little prats.

EasterRobin · 21/04/2018 22:29

I would have been terrified trying to get past them. I'd heard one of the organisers discussing the masked men blocking the stairwell but had thought they were exaggerating. Having seen it on film, I can see that they really weren't exaggerating at all. I'm genuinely shocked.

MissTeri · 21/04/2018 22:28

So if I accidently misgender someone - which is easy to do since some people think they're neither man nor woman and insist on being 'they' - then I'll be hit?! Unfuckingbelievable. I do believe I may have just peaked.
When I joined Mumsnet I watched the trans threads with interest, my ex FIL is transgender and my knee jerk reaction was to defend him (and all transgender people) without actually really understanding/listening to what was being said.
The fact is that my exFil is ashamed of being lumped in with these fucking half wits, they're making her life harder, much much harder. She has been offered support in various groups but she won't attend incase there are bell ends like that there. She is isolated for fear of being around them, not the rest of the population. Why can't they see what they doing to fellow trans people? Are they really so fucking ignorant!? I'm furious. I genuinely think that every time something like this happens it's a step back for trans people who just want to transition in peace.

NotTerfNorCis · 21/04/2018 22:27

That woman in Magdalen's video. 'You f* c*! My pronouns are they!'. Jesus. H. Christ.

Wanderabout · 21/04/2018 22:27

Yes Big, me too!

LangCleg · 21/04/2018 22:27

Anyone remember Charlie Gilmour at the tuition fee protests? Lots of sympathy for students over the tuition fee rise and he singlehandedly destroyed half of it. That's what this lot reminds me of.

Your average civilian not at all involved in the gender debate does not like black bloc tactics. At. All.

Typeractive · 21/04/2018 22:25

Oh my fucking god. I never in my life thought I would see masked men physically stopping women from attending a public meeting to discuss proposed changes to UK law.

Exactly this. The conduct of these bully boys is beyond appalling.

Voice0fReason · 21/04/2018 22:24

It's an utter disgrace. I saw one on twitter trying to claim that they were afraid for their own safety.
These were men, intimidating women, trying to prevent them meeting to talk about issues that affect women.

LizzieSiddal · 21/04/2018 22:24

That is absolutely shocking.

How did they eventually get in?

ZibbidooZibbidooZibbidoo · 21/04/2018 22:23

Did they give a reason (on camera) why they were preventing access? Did the women ask why they wouldn’t let them past?
