Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Is feminism inherently sexist? Anybody for human rights anymore?

Feminism appears to only ever advocate for women's rights alone, even when we mention gender equality it is immediately presumed that it's an issue where women are in need of support and empowerment.
Is that not inherently sexist, solely focusing on the rights of only a subset of our species, why are we not advocating for human rights anymore?
There are at least 6 separate organisations where I work that advocate for gender equality and/or diversity and/or women's rights, and every one of them is focused on women's rights. Where I work females out perform and out number men, I don't understand how I'm suppose to be at an advantage because I'm a man, and there's not a single group I can go to for support as none of those groups are willing to offer me any of their services.
I'm all for human rights and consider myself an individualist where people should be awarded things on merit, but even when trying to pose questions in what should be a critical thinking environment I get branded a sexist and a misogynist. Without anyone acknowledging and critiquing my ideas, I'm personally attacked and disregarded, is that because I'm a man?

Oh right, so those men fighting and dying in the first world war and the second?

You mean wars which were started by other men and which women were forbidden from fighting in...by men?

Also a sex negative feminist is a feminist who hates porn and prostitution and bans page 3 girls. A sex positive feminist is one that supports free the nipple and takes half naked photos on Instagram or something and says she's liberated. 😃

I'm off to sleep, have to go to work in my matriarchal microcosm tomorrow morning while the posters around me tell me I'm part of the patriarchy. Thanks for all the comments, some of them were insightful and pleasant.
Goodnight

Aww an old skool MRA. How quaint.

Antislut · 19/04/2018 23:51

I'm a woman in my twenties. You sexist!!

NKFell · 19/04/2018 23:50

I have no idea why really but it always surprises me that people think this way. Each time I think people can’t honestly say it.

It’s the same as the people who say there shouldn’t be a Black Lives Matter it should be All Lives Matter...reminds me of what I heard a comedian say- “when I say I want to save the rainforest I’m not saying fuck other trees”.

Are people blind to it? It’s bizarre.

Antislut · 19/04/2018 23:50

What centuries? Enlighten me. Because as far as I'm aware. The monarchy and the nobility were the only privileged people in our societies for a long time (made up of both men and women). The peasantry (men and women) suffered horribly. Women and men had to work together to survive, a husband was not oppressing his wife and children when he put food on the table.

HopScotchy · 19/04/2018 23:49

Sex negative feminist? What's one of those? No, I think it's pretty clear you are a bloke who feels his relationship(s) broke down because she/ they were 'sluts'.

BarrackerBarmer · 19/04/2018 23:49

I miss the TeaScum thread that got zapped.

We were really getting into the pros and cons of fruit teas.
Actually there were no pros.
Consensus was that fruit tea is in fact coloured hot water.

But still. It was enlightening.

Antislut · 19/04/2018 23:48

Oh right, so those men fighting and dying in the first world war and the second? They were sooo privileged. Right.

LightofaSilveryMoon · 19/04/2018 23:46

This is unadulterated bollocks!
You must be unbelievable privileged to not know how hard some jobs are and have been throughout history. That men did to provide for their families and women would never do or have done.

I think you are somewhat unaware of centuries of history!

Antislut · 19/04/2018 23:44

Antislut? I could be a sex negative feminist for all you know. I could also be a conservative Christian. Or maybe I just thought it was a funny name.

foxyliz26 · 19/04/2018 23:44

OP poor you ! our hearts all bleed for you I remember when it was very different in the workplace straight out of University , sexist, racist men abusing us women , all of us too frightened to say anything , we took it all, bided our time determined when we were made a Partner that rubbish would all stop and it has

one of the most sexist. racist. homophobic fuckers from my first chambers is now a high court judge !

like with all bullys he cant remember doing or saying any of it

SpringNowPlease2018 · 19/04/2018 23:43

OP "Either way women dominate this particular workforce, so it was interesting that all of you seemed to neglect this information."

This was at the case at my previous work. It was addressed and they actively tried to recruit more men when jobs came up. Have you talked to HR about this? It does work both ways.

@antislut (nice moniker) you are a parody of yourself.

Rufustheconstantreindeer · 19/04/2018 23:42

feminism is only focused on women

Well yes...

Clue is in the name

Does what it says on the tin and all that

Have a good night cfort0

Antislut · 19/04/2018 23:41

Rufustheconstantreindeer · 19/04/2018 23:40

How would that help? You're just assuming men kill themselves for that reason because it's the easiest answer.

So men and women attempt suicide at the same rates but men die more

What would be your explanation for that?

I am off to bed so i apologise if you answer this and i dont reply

cforte0 · 19/04/2018 23:39

@thiskitten I can clearly see that it's futile to go into the details of my situation as I will likely not receive help here. As you have all done such a good job of informing that feminism is only focused on women and we're on such a forum.

The "privileges" comment was in response to people saying I'm privileged because I said I was a man. So if you had sons, surely you're providing them with this "privilege" along with the rest of society I presume. I don't understand it myself, that's why I said "if it's as you say".

LightofaSilveryMoon · 19/04/2018 23:38

So why don't you mobilise to create a support movement in order to deal with the problems that you identify?

Antislut · 19/04/2018 23:38

What do you mean read a book?
The world has been pretty shit for a lot of people till the beginning of the 20th century and it's only improving. Both men and women. The idea there's this global patriarchy out to get people is just stupid. Some men have it tough too aswell as women.

How would that help? You're just assuming men kill themselves for that reason because it's the easiest answer.

Men do the risky jobs because women generally don't want to do them. They have throughout history before second wave feminism encouraged women to join the work force.

The courts assume that the woman is the best carer for the child.

Rufustheconstantreindeer · 19/04/2018 23:36

C'mon reluctant

Why was it tedious

Not enough biscuits? Boring talk about touring the canary islands?

HopScotchy · 19/04/2018 23:34

Like all MRAs the OP puts all his energy into asking women to fight for men's rights (unspecified) rather than doing it himself. It's not men's work because it's 'caring'.

Rufustheconstantreindeer · 19/04/2018 23:33

I never really understand why its an issue my sons and daughter having equal rights

Ive got awesome children

They are just lovely Smile
