Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Is feminism inherently sexist? Anybody for human rights anymore?

Feminism appears to only ever advocate for women's rights alone, even when we mention gender equality it is immediately presumed that it's an issue where women are in need of support and empowerment.
Is that not inherently sexist, solely focusing on the rights of only a subset of our species, why are we not advocating for human rights anymore?
There are at least 6 separate organisations where I work that advocate for gender equality and/or diversity and/or women's rights, and every one of them is focused on women's rights. Where I work females out perform and out number men, I don't understand how I'm suppose to be at an advantage because I'm a man, and there's not a single group I can go to for support as none of those groups are willing to offer me any of their services.
I'm all for human rights and consider myself an individualist where people should be awarded things on merit, but even when trying to pose questions in what should be a critical thinking environment I get branded a sexist and a misogynist. Without anyone acknowledging and critiquing my ideas, I'm personally attacked and disregarded, is that because I'm a man?

Terence do you want to actually engage in debate, where you will address specific points and construct a counter argument? Or are you just here to drop what you think are acerbic but witty (they're neither by the way) comments about how awful feminists are?

I don't think my comments are acerbic or witty.

There's not much to debate really, and clearly the rest of the posters on here don't/can't because they've tried to belittle the OP by talking about tea. I was merely trying to show the hypocrisy of one of the comments on here.

I'm not reading nine pages.

well you will miss out on the Little Rhino Song.

Big mistake

hate filled self interest group
What are you doing on the Feminism chat board of Mumsnet if you think feminism is a waste of time.

DixieFlatline · 20/04/2018 10:42

the one that I just can't make myself drink no matter how good for me it's meant to be is nettle. Just the smell makes me want to run away.

I tried it once and for some reason it smelled like the stuff that came out of my cat's neck abscess nearly a decade earlier.

I'm not reading nine pages. Can someone tell me how many MRA ploppers there have actually been to spin this out for 9 pages?

BertrandRussell · 20/04/2018 10:39

"I didn't until I started reading this forum, but yes I certainly do now."

Are you including all the people on this thread? I am a feminist-can you show me where I have been hate filled? Where I have said the world owes me anything?

BertrandRussell · 20/04/2018 10:37

"I get branded a sexist and a misogynist. Without anyone acknowledging and critiquing my ideas, I'm personally attacked and disregarded, is that because I'm a man?".

No idea. But if you tell me more I might be able to make a judgement.....

TerranceandPhilip · 20/04/2018 10:35

Do you really think feminists are like that?

I didn't until I started reading this forum, but yes I certainly do now.

It's simple enough. MRA'S and feminists are two sides of the same coin. Both hate filled self interest groups who believe that the world owes them something and that they're disadvantaged in some way. Even the demographics are pretty much the same. White and middle class, living in a western country in 2018 believing they're "opressed" is laughable really.

A little game for you, just for starters like. Look at the BBC news homepage every day for a month. Note down the stories of male violence perpetrated against women and female violence perpetrated against men. Make sure you include any incidences of sexual violence here. Compare the two and see if it tells you anything. What it will tell you is the tip of the iceberg.

Just out of interest since you obviously see us as 'TERFs' - what rights would you like trans people to have that you currently do not believe they have? In what ways are women the oppressors here?

Could you expand on this point I'm not quite sure I follow?

A phobia is an irrational fear.

I know it's feminism 101 to change the meaning of words to meet your own agenda, but let's keep it to its common usage for now.

BertrandRussell · 20/04/2018 10:11

Cforte- if you give some details of the situation you’re in, people could give you practical thoughts . It’s hard to do that when you post in such vague terms.

Xenophile · 20/04/2018 10:09

I think it's beyond parody that feminists really don't see the similarities between themselves and MRA's

All feminists? Or just women you don't like?

Xenophile · 20/04/2018 10:07

I understand that some/many feminists, such as some of you here, see me as a villain so that allows you to dehumanise me with no remorse.

Nah mate, we see you as a joke. Which is why women started talking about fennel tea.

UpstartCrow · 20/04/2018 10:01

@cforte0 Report the 'appalling abuse' that dehumanises you to MN and they'll delete it.

Ellenripleysalienbaby · 20/04/2018 09:59

The transphobia on here described in one neat sentence. I think it's beyond parody that feminists really don't see the similarities between themselves and MRA's

Idontdowindows · 20/04/2018 09:58

A phobia is an irrational fear.

It is not irrational for women to fear males in their spaces. We know what men can do.

TerranceandPhilip · 20/04/2018 09:34

'When all you have ever known is privilege, equality feels like oppression'.

AngryAttackKittens · 20/04/2018 09:31

Tsk tsk, OP, women offer you helpful suggestions and this is how you respond? The thread even has free advice about herbal solutions to digestive ailments!

Idontdowindows · 20/04/2018 09:29

Awwww, the women won't adapt their movement to suit a man and now he's not bitter at allllll.

cforte0 · 20/04/2018 09:23

This gist of the responses has answered my question "is that because I'm a man?". I appreciate everyone who considered my circumstances with some concern, even the harsh criticism which I'll take constructively.

I understand that some/many feminists, such as some of you here, see me as a villain so that allows you to dehumanise me with no remorse. Some of the abuse and lack of empathy here is appalling, which I was expecting but was hoping for different, on a forum for parents. I'm not bitter and wish you all well in your lives, it's hard enough as it is. Thanks for your time.

AngryAttackKittens · 20/04/2018 09:17

Does OP know about humanism! Sounds like it would be just what he's looking for!

Until he realizes that whinging at women isn't really essential to the philosophy. Then he'll be sad.

Idontdowindows · 20/04/2018 09:10

What do you think the FEM in feminism stands for, hedgehogs?
