The asked that preferred pronouns be used

Ms MacLachlan replied: "I'm used to thinking of this person who is a male as male."

According to the Twitter, the "anti-carceral feminists" of the #freetheshewolf lot have just called the police on Maria's supporters because they thought they were going to go into the same pub they were in.

Not sure this is good praxis!

BarrackerBarmer
If you read the recently published Barrister's book all faith you once had will be gone.

Thanks for finding the earlier version of the Equal Treatment Bench Book @sorenipples!

Very disconcerting that a victim in court would be forced to lie about the sex of the offender, which is not just an exercise of dominance; it also makes it harder to give plausible testimony, as part of your brain has to be devoted to self-censorship.

BarrackerBarmer · 13/04/2018 20:06

When I use 'he' I am truthfully reflecting my perception of the subject's biological sex.

Do I see males as women? Truthfully - never.

If I am compelled to refer to a male using 'she', I am compelled to lie.

The judge compelled Maria to lie (imply she perceives the defendant as female by forced use of female pronouns) as surely as if she had been compelled to misrepresent any other objective characteristic she observed about her assailant.

The reason Gender Identity Watch is referred to as a doxxing website by transgender advocates is because the owner of the site once reported the death and rape threats they were receiving to the school where the IP was located and to the police. This resulted in people finding out who was making the threats.

“Oppositional Defiant Disorder FFS? So someone has trouble with 'authority figures' & gets brownie points for it?”

It is not a good look to make fun of a mental health disorder.

ODD isn’t a mental health disorder, it’s a behaviour disorder.

LangCleg · 13/04/2018 19:58

#TGLWGH

SarahAr - the judge directed Maria to use pronouns in a way Maria does not find truthful. People are simply pointing out the conflict between that and swearing an oath to tell the full truth you see it while on the witness stand. No more, no less.

DisturblinglyOrangeScrambleEgg · 13/04/2018 19:58

That Mail article is interesting. The attack was described as "a brawl" that occurred "when protesters clashed over the rights of trans women."

Yes - along with the headline 'transgender model...... walks free'

Which is technically true, but to someone not familiar with court stuff, makes it sound like there wasn't also a guilty verdict!

Ereshkigal · 13/04/2018 19:54

It is not going to help anyone's cause to make clearly false and derogatory allegations against a living person

Who is doing that?

BarrackerBarmer · 13/04/2018 19:51

Where are the lawyers who will start saying, "hang on chaps, we can't really compel a witness to lie under oath, can we?"

I'm glad for the guilty verdict, but I am slowly losing faith in our justice system, if it can punish a victim for committing perjury, and similarly punish her for refusing to commit perjury.

According to MayDay4Women the Judge took into account Maria's inconsistent use of the preferred pronouns in court when sentencing.
Don't whether this happened or not, but in any legal proceedings you should always show the judge the utmost respect.

Utterly shocked that the judge directed a witness to lie.
It is not going to help anyone's cause to make clearly false and derogatory allegations against a living person. Either MN moderators are going to have to work overtime or else MN will end up being sued.

If you are sworn to tell the truth in a court of law then you tell the truth.

Basic.

Waddlelikeapenguin · 13/04/2018 19:36

Ok i missed a whole page Blush
I'm back to thinking the fine was crazy low.
also think lang should drink more tea Grin

Waddlelikeapenguin · 13/04/2018 19:28

Glad they were found guilty. Had thought the fine very low but glad to read above that it's not.
Utterly shocked that the judge directed a witness to lie.

Juells · 13/04/2018 19:25

Sorry, yes CunningOperative, you're right of course. Just got discombobulated by the nonsense.

picklemepopcorn · 13/04/2018 19:17

So it's not 450 fine. It's 150 fine, 250 costs, and something else.

CunningOperative · 13/04/2018 19:05

Women weren't protesting about the rights of trans women, they were protesting about women's rights. Totally different.

They weren't even protesting. They simply wanted to talk.

MimpiDreams · 13/04/2018 19:04

It also says he slapped her when it was a punch.

LangCleg · 13/04/2018 19:02

You can laugh at him. Don't laugh with him. It encourages him to no good effect. (In case you hadn't guessed, I am typing this because he is reading over my shoulder.)

Lang Grin

NotTerfNorCis · 13/04/2018 18:56

I know I shouldn't be laughing. Grin

LangCleg · 13/04/2018 18:55

Good point! When Ada said 'we must show no mercy', I assumed something a bit more dramatic than.. a ladylike making of cups of tea.

The DH is now saying, "Can I call it forced feminisation every time you tell me to put the kettle on? Because I feel you should say please more often."

Ereshkigal · 13/04/2018 18:54

That may well be it. But most of these transactivists see sex work as empowering though, which makes me pause.

NotTerfNorCis · 13/04/2018 18:52

@Ereshkigal Thinking about it, he might have meant that by being gender critical, women deny transwomen the status of ordinary citizens and so force them into prostitution. But I may be off the mark there.
