Oh my - is that you suggesting another woman should not express an opinion? Surely not. As I said it seems a strange mindset when there is a list of subjects not to look at the ones you are interested in.

Not at all.

In the meantime, they have hot topics and some of us are wondering on what basis feminism has been excluded from them

Did it ever appear that much? Apart from Feminist Chat the sub boards (activism , support , etc) have tumbleweed blowing through them.

The Feminist board is not hidden. It is there in the list of subjects , same as all the others- you don't even have to log into a "members' only " section which many forums have.

What is your interest here Lass? Feminism has been removed from trending. That's what we're discussing. Since you think nobody is interested in it anyway, why would you care enough to keep posting on this thread?

LassWiADelicateAir · 13/04/2018 17:30

There are relevant boards in 'being a parent', 'body and soul', 'education', 'health', and especially in 'other stuff' e.g.30 days, aibu, in the news, crime, human rights, legal matters, politics, and maybe even "the unexplained" ;)

At the moment other than AIBU none of those appear in "Active" so if you need flashing lights to guide you that won't work.

I'm sure they'll be interested in your insight into whether having hot topics is a good idea

"We’ve been rounded up into a ghetto basically"

A perfect summary Prancing

RosenbergW · 13/04/2018 12:23

If posters here want to engage with more women across Mumsnet on these issues then maybe instead of posting these threads in feminist chat they could be posted across several other relevant topic boards. There are relevant boards in 'being a parent', 'body and soul', 'education', 'health', and especially in 'other stuff' e.g.30 days, aibu, in the news, crime, human rights, legal matters, politics, and maybe even "the unexplained" ;)

It might feel like the conversation is diluted out a bit and also that a hundred 101 conversations need to be had in those places, but women will keep peak transing as they realise how many ways this issue is negatively impacting us and just how little evidence and logic there is behind it.

I noticed there is no 'General sports chat' topic in 'sporting events'. A board for that would be a useful place to document and discuss the male infiltration and destruction of women and girl's sports.

The last thing these dudes want is for more women to be hearing about this stuff. That's why they want the conversation shut down, or at least confined to a small hidden area (for now). This board provides a place for thorough examination of specific issues/events and for solidarity and sisterhood building. But these conversations shouldn't be only had here. Take it to the other boards as relevant issues crop up. Link the problem and make the case, call here and via pm for sup port in that if you need some.

And take it offline as might as you can! I talk about this to as many people as I can as soon as I feel safe to do so. These dudes do not have the numbers or public support. It's a small hard core of vicious narcissistic obsessives with a shit ton of time on their hands. Yeh they can whip up likes on twitter from sock puppets and people with a 6 second memory, no real understanding, and a will to repeat virtue signalling mantras - but what does this amount to in real life? Feck all. It's a fake, a sham, the illusion of influence - but these people don't practice what they preach, these aren't the voters and the people who buy the groceries and do the volunteering and the work. That's us.

Withdraw your labour and your money from anyone who supports female erasure and censorship of women's voices, including on Mumsnet! Write and tell them why. Encourage other people in your circles to do the same. Advertisers on Mumsnet would be fools to choose these trans activists and their puppets over the women here. I have no idea why Mumsnet would be bowing to pressure from people who don't use their site anyway! These organisations are making terrible business decisions here, make sure they know it!

Prancingonthevalentine · 13/04/2018 12:15

We just talk to each other I suppose

Prancingonthevalentine · 13/04/2018 12:05

I always use active.
We’ve been rounded up into a ghetto basically - what’s the next step for them?

Floisme · 13/04/2018 11:56

I have to say, I've never used Active either, or even noticed it was there. I just looked for topics that might interest me: Style & Beauty, Feminism, In the News, Books. Plus I looked at on AIBU out of curiosity (and wander over there if I'm feeling feisty). To be honest, I spend enough time on here already without going out looking for even more threads.

That said, I still think it's worrying if Feminism is being excluded from hot topics.

flowersonthepiano · 13/04/2018 11:48

I really don't understand what the big deal is about hot topics across the forums
Why don't you raise that with the Mumsnet team then Lass?
I'm sure they'll be interested in your insight into whether having hot topics is a good idea.
In the meantime, they have hot topics and some of us are wondering on what basis feminism has been excluded from them

GoodyMog · 13/04/2018 11:46

"Didn't you have any curiosity about what might be in the other threads ? "

It was more that there was so much going on in Chat that I didn't need to look elsewhere. Plus I'd previously used lots of other forums where all the talking was in a general chat and the other boards were mostly tumbleweed, so I had no reason to assume MN would be different.

LassWiADelicateAir · 13/04/2018 11:44

So I stayed there for a long time, it's busy enough there that I don't think I'd have ventured on to any other boards if it wasn't for Active threads

Didn't you have any curiosity about what might be in the other threads ?

You couldn't imagine that a thread called "Books" or "Feminism" or "Films" or "The Litter Tray" might (assuming you like books, women's issues or films or cats) have something of interest unless it is flagged in "Active"?

GoodyMog · 13/04/2018 11:40

That's fair enough, but that's not how everyone uses the forum. I'd assume that if most people used the forum like you do then Active would get little to no traffic and MNHQ would have dropped it entirely.

LassWiADelicateAir · 13/04/2018 11:37

I really don't understand what the big deal is about hot topics across the forums

There are a list of threads subject matter.I assumed one looked at the list and selected the subjects one is interested in.

For example no matter how much of a "hot topic" any of property, trying to conceive, education, diy, relationships might be on "Active" they are of no interest to me.

GoodyMog · 13/04/2018 11:31

"I never look at "Active". I was on MN for ages before I even discovered "Active" existed. "

I'm not really getting what the angst is- the forum has a long list of topics. I looked at them and found the ones I am interested in."

I came into MN via the TTC threads and mostly stuck to that at first, then - being used to other forums - I figured the general chat board would have the most traffic, and I was mostly here to waste time/be entertained. So I stayed there for a long time, it's busy enough there that I don't think I'd have ventured on to any other boards if it wasn't for Active threads.

Just because you don't use Active doesn't mean others don't.

sorenipples · 13/04/2018 11:15

Hi lass. To answer your question as to why I "need spoon feeding" to access FWR.

Clearly I don't need active to check FWR exists! I do however tend to look at it to get a feel of what the hot topics are across the forums. I don't just read FWR! I started off in property/diy having been directed there from Google. Like many other posters it is active that led me here.

Now I know FWR is removed from active I will come here directly. This doesn't stop me being concerned about the underlying motivation and the impact of the change.

ChattyLion · 13/04/2018 10:41

I meant, I came to FWR the same as MsMc

ChattyLion · 13/04/2018 10:40

I am as well.

This (self ID) is an issue that needs highlighting. And FWR covers various different issues than self ID.

Why shouldn’t it show up in active when people are talking about anything on FWR?

Even if we were talking about something that wasn’t really important, it seems odd that talk on a whole topic board would not show up in active without there having been an explanation from MN.

Are they under such pressure that they don’t feel able to say what pressure they have been under and say what the rules are now? This seems worrying.

(It’s clearly different and helpful where the regulars on the board have had problems and asked for that specific topic NOT be showing in active..)

LassWiADelicateAir · 13/04/2018 10:32

As a regular lurker I thought FWR had gone quiet as I wasn't seeing anything in active. Done the suggested search and am shocked at what's going on

So you know FWR exists- Why do you need spoon feeding to look at it?

MsMcWoodle · 13/04/2018 10:31

I am one of those people who would have had no idea what was happening if I hadn't seen posts in 'Active'.

LassWiADelicateAir · 13/04/2018 10:25

How many of us would be totally unaware of these issues had they not come across them by accident via "Active"?

I never look at "Active". I was on MN for ages before I even discovered "Active" existed. "

I'm not really getting what the angst is- the forum has a long list of topics. I looked at them and found the ones I am interested in.

"Active" at the moment has heaps of threads I have no interest in.

ChattyLion · 13/04/2018 09:31

They’re just narcissistic bullies. How do we stop bullying? Call it out. Not silence those it’s affecting. Ugh.
This board is are a lot quieter now. Is that good for advertisers given families and women are a huge market for them? Confused

AnitaLovesVictor · 12/04/2018 18:28

When you check down the twitter feeds - it really is a tight knot of very vocal transactivists posting multiple times.

Same as when they got We Need to Talk's meeting shut down at Millwall - by deluging them with e-mails/phonecalls. Someone tweeted "I've run 3 times, using different voices and numbers" ( Confused ) "and I'll ring again tomorrow.

sorenipples · 12/04/2018 18:21

Yes. I had a look on the supermarket under its hashtag. No big campaign, lost in complaints about toilet cleanliness and issues about on line delivery (amongst other things).

Lurk mode resumed.

OnTheList · 12/04/2018 18:14

I doubt hiding feminism threads from active will make a difference, they specifically search FWR for stuff to report/tweet.

However I am very grateful to MN for continuing to allow debate, even though it does feel quite censored right now. I cannot imagine the pressure they are under, I mean, Millwall said it was like nothing they had ever seen before, David Davies said the same...and MN will have been under attack for a lot longer than both of those. And it will probably get worse too, as MN has been instrumental in getting self-ID out there to the wider public.

ReluctantCamper · 12/04/2018 18:08

I did an incognito search on mumsnet on twitter. it's just the same nutcases going round and round in their echo chamber.

If that's what's put the wind up MNHQ then their disposition is considerably weaker than I thought.

I wonder if something else is at play here.

flowersonthepiano · 12/04/2018 15:26

@OvaHere I just typed in mumsnet without the hashtag and got loads of stuff including a screen shot of a conversation including me as one of the first items..maybe it's the hashtag?
