New start I'm sorry that your dd has been through that and for what's ahead of her.

This trial has really saddened me, but more than that I've been out today with 2 friends who are both intelligent women & when this case came up in conversation they both to quite some extent had a victim blaming mentality & 'this trial did nobody any good'. Eventually we had to change the conversation as the conflict between us became quite uncomfortable but I feel let down by them, although I doubt that many people I know have followed the trial as closely as those on this thread.

I don't know what the answer is, but change is spectacularly needed & I currently don't feel like I can talk to anyone IRL about it anymore.

So sorry for your daughter newstart, I truly hope she sees justice handed down in court.

I feel very saddened that my DD was a victim of rape over a year ago and that she has to go through the trauma of reliving it in a court and that she will be on trial not him where is the justice

I am sorry to offend anyone and that was not my intention and I don’t want to derail the thread.

NotTakenUsername · 07/04/2018 20:44

bellasuewow I am also concerned about the content and tone of your posts on such an important thread. I have also reported your posts and think you are being incredibly rude, especially to bumfuddle who has made many very insightful contributions.

HRHPrincessMegan · 07/04/2018 20:44

Most men are definitely far more protective of their own. I’m not convinced that they necessarily bundle all other women into the “fair game” category, but they are certainly capable of being very disrespectful to some. The Madonna - whore complex is alive and well....

Bumble really if you are so offended then report my post, do whatever floats your boat on a Saturday night. I have seen far worse on mumsnet but I am sure they will take you very seriously 😐

Princess Megan - that is exactly why I think when people say to men defending men accused of this kind of behaviour towards women it has little impact.
Most men see females in 2 categories. The ones who deserve protection and the ones who don't deserve protection because they are not their own. Reason why right wing newspapers get so riled up when non white men rape intoxicated women but make excuses for white men who do exactly the same.

HRHPrincessMegan · 07/04/2018 20:08

In this case and this one alone (because this thread is dedicated to it) I believe they behaved as they did because they thought they could without consequence.

Like many pps I went to an independent school with a strong rugby culture albeit in the ROI. Both my brother and father played and still love the sport. However as neither ever drank much, they never really participated in the more laddish post match socialising that seems to be part of the culture. That’s not to say they weren’t aware of it and they were pretty explicit in warning me off. To a greater extent though I was probably protected from predatory behaviour because I was x’s sister/daughter - the only upside to a crummy patrician society. Not all girls/women were given the same respect.

The way these “top shaggers” referred to women in the WhatsApp - brassers, Belfast sluts - is not how they’d reference each other’s sisters. It’s language reserved for those they consider fair game.
