The comment from Lees re being scared of escalators...around 30 people per year are killed in escalator related incidents. Over 1600 women were killed by men in one year (both US stats) Trans women are similar to men in terms of crime commited. I think an appalling comment for Lees to make, and only serves to highlight male socialization that he is able to make a joke of this fear.

NotTerfNorCis · 03/04/2018 23:10

This is a peculiar article. It appears to be about how crimes by female sex offenders are underestimated, but it leads with the story of a trans-identified male. At the time I wondered if it was hinting at something.

TheDukesOfHazzard · 03/04/2018 23:01

So if you include TW in female sex crime stats, there is no way to say whether women are doing it more or not.

Certainly the papers picked the recent stats up to support the idea that"women do it too" and the mra follow up with "it's a peolet problem not a men problem" and then we struggle even more to #nametheproblem.

This is not trivial, it affects societal views, funding for research and so on.

LangCleg · 03/04/2018 23:00

But trans people are not more violent than other men. That list really does make it seem like she is arguing that they are all dangerous.

Studies conducted so far show a male crime rate over all offences and not a female one. Transition doesn't appear to change that.

However, if you take the trans umbrella definition of trans (the one that includes cross dressers with no dysphoria) then trans males are more likely to commit sexual offences than other men. 50% of trans males in prison are sex offenders compared to about 10% of the non trans male prison population. Cross dressing is the most common paraphilia among sex offenders.

This is one of the most important reasons I'm keen to support dysphoric transsexuals who oppose the TRA agenda organising together so they can separate themselves from these lists of "trans criminals".

There are distinct populations here. One of them has the potential to build solidarity with feminists and find a mutually acceptable way forward. The other never will.

Winewinewinegin · 03/04/2018 22:59

Far more men than escalators kill and harm women. Which is why self-id of biological sex enabling unquestioned entry into the safe single sex spaces society has created is such a huge problem. Making this argument is not bigotry it is basic feminism.

TheDukesOfHazzard · 03/04/2018 22:58

Loads of MRAs are pushing the idea that women are as/ more violent than men, commit more DV and child abuse, including CSA, and also more sex offences generally.

They say this is all hidden and women are allowed to get away with it and victims don't talk/ aren't believed.

While certainly women may well commit more child abuse and DV than known at the mo, clearly we aren't leaving dead bodies in anywhere near the number that men do, and when it comes to sex offences this really does seem to be a vastly predominantly male "thing".

Angryresister · 03/04/2018 22:57

There are an increasing number of men who are in prison identifying as Trans and wanting to identify as women, move to female prisons etc, and male crimes such as rape are being described as being done by women. When this is pointed out, the knee jerk reaction is that it never hpoens. The video was a response to this. Given the stuff that is left up on the web, it is perverse tht they choose to take this one down. However in most of the uks regular media, you can see reports, but often they need decoding...but the same info is there.

Winewinewinegin · 03/04/2018 22:56

If we are not able to name, list, describe, catalogue and quantify male violence once a male claims to be female, how do we tackle it?

NotTerfNorCis · 03/04/2018 22:54

I suppose 'criminal women' are seen as exotic and a novelty, an aberration. These programmes don't usually have a subtext of 'look at how violent women are'. Quite the opposite.

terfing · 03/04/2018 22:53

I agree that videos like this are prejudiced and shouldn't be encouraged. We don't need to stoop low to win this battle, so we shouldn't. We can win this fight on intelligence alone.

TheDukesOfHazzard · 03/04/2018 22:48

There was a prog on the TV guide the other day about "criminal women" can't remember the exact title, piers Morgan. Didn't watch it, thought it sounded a bit???

TheDukesOfHazzard · 03/04/2018 22:46

Not seen the video.
These things circulate in response to claims that there are no trans sex offenders/ no prior have said they are trans to commit crime against women/ trans women are women in all ways including propensity to crime including sex crimes, if those claims were not made, people wouldn't be saying hold on a minute what about all this stuff.

So the comparison to black people is a crappy one.

Look at the stats for rape in the UK last year for example. Are they hate speech? Given that suddenly the numbers of women committing a crime that needs a penis are going up.

These stats were used by the papers to bemoan how women are committing much more sex crimes. But with the stats as they are, what is true, who can say?

thebewilderness · 03/04/2018 22:45

Peachy is claiming that transgender identified males are more violent than women. That is a recorded fact. Male perps crimes are being recorded as crimes committed by women in some countries.

TheBatPig · 03/04/2018 22:37

As far as I can tell no one at all is claiming transwomen are more violent than any other group. Just they commit violent crimes at the same rate as males?

I think the comparison with race is wrong, because it relies on seeing males as the oppressed and women as oppressor which is ridiculous. And of course, not all black men experience poverty, however many do or suffer effects from eg less access to further education for one. Which of course affects job prospects and therefore future income.

But that's not what is being discussed here of course. I get some people may feel the video is in bad taste, however, I do wonder how else we prove the lie that trans women do not commit these crimes?

Grandmaswagsbag · 03/04/2018 22:26

Thebatpig you missed the point. Anyone can pull any data and use it to back up prejudiced ideologies. It’s completely meaningless in reality. Hence the comparison with black people. I’m not actually saying that black people commit more violent crimes! Before you try to analyse ‘reasons’ and repeat stereotypes. I don’t think you meant to be rude, I think you didn’t understand the point.

thebewilderness · 03/04/2018 22:24

These are all fine, of course.

Cursed and I converse on Twitter, we have friendly exchanges. We agree consent is important and that trust is an issue. Miranda and Cursed have a lot of heated chats.

NotTerfNorCis · 03/04/2018 22:23

Utterly unconnected to this, so sorry, but has anyone seen the breaking news story about a gun attack on the YouTube headquarters - apparently by a woman? www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-43635864

SusanBunch · 03/04/2018 22:21

But trans people are not more violent than other men. That list really does make it seem like she is arguing that they are all dangerous.

Also presuming that all black men are poor is also wrong. It’s wrong full stop to tweet a list of 100 crimes committed by X sector of the population. Will really not help anyone see the real issues in the debate and will play perfectly into the hands of those going on about terfs and transphobia.

DietCoke87 · 03/04/2018 22:19

@Grandmaswagsbag and @LassWiADelicateAir fair enough. Sorry, been drinking tonight, so just ranting unfiltered everywhere after watching many videos on YouTube from MRAs with whole comment sections full of 4K+ people saying they long for the days when women were property, it was a mistake to give women the vote, women should stop spreading their legs etc... But I can see how that video was pure prejudice against trans people. As I said it wasn't to my taste and I can now certainly see how it could incite hatred against trans people.

SusanBunch · 03/04/2018 22:18

Yeah to be fair, it’s best it was taken down. It does seem to be tending towards hate speech. If you replaced the word trans with black you would see the issue. It doesn’t help the overall cause to tweet stuff like that imo.

TheBatPig · 03/04/2018 22:15

I thought it was a pretty direct response to claims from transwomen that they are not at all dangerous and that they don't commit what we think of as male crimes. When clearly they (not all of course) do commit these type of crimes at the same rate as men. I think that had the claim not been made in the first place (that trans women don't commit these types of crimes) then the video would not have been made.

And yes, there are videos with much more offensive content that are allowed to stand regardless of complaints made. Re the comparison to a list made of black males violent crimes, I would suggest if true, that poverty would be a massive contributory factor. Whereas the contributory factor to transwomen's crime is the fact they are male not female. Its a rather disingenuous comparison to make in my opinion.

Grandmaswagsbag · 03/04/2018 21:51

Maybe but it does look like pure prejudice. I really can’t see how it’s different to a racist publishing lists of knife crimes committed by black people. It’s designed purely to promote a bias view and play to stereotypes. It’s stupid for anyone to say trans people don’t commit crimes or that they do. Some individuals commit crimes. I can empathise with the reasons it was removed.

LassWiADelicateAir · 03/04/2018 21:49

You could print 100 crimes committed by any demographic but it doesn’t mean all of them commit crimes does it?

It is at best meaningless

100 crimes committed by women whose first name starts with K who were born in 1972

And at worst incitement to hate.

100 crimes committed by Jewish people?

100 crimes committed by British Muslims?

100 crimes committed by lesbians?

There really is no difference.

Wombman · 03/04/2018 21:46

No but the tras claim that none of them do. And it's the nature of many of the crimes that's worrying considering the new law.
