Apparently the Alt-Right and 4-Chan are using MN.
I think it's just one person who controls their tweets. I really hope that the top Lib Dems know what's being said.

I noticed yesterday that the complaints go to the Liberal Democrats' Pastoral Care Officer (JT). This is the post created in the wake of the whole Lord Rennard 'personal space' debacle and Helena Morrissey's subsequent investigation into Lib Dem culture. I don't think JT investigates herself - I think she puts the complaints before the right people / committees / panel.

I suspect it's still as byzantine a structure as it ever was.

But it'll be interesting to see how the complaints are handled, especially as the preferred suggested resolution is open debate.

RedToothBrush · 03/04/2018 15:48

Fwiw I'm non discriminatory.

I go after anyone who spouts bollocks about health and can't understand stats and data well.

Now about Margaret McCartney.

One of the things she goes on with regard to medicine is the trouble with quantifying and defining harm.

Now the trans lobby use a singular method to do this: its called the suicide rate. This is an easy one to understand and quantify (in theory. In practice the Samaritans have a lot to say to the contrary about the problems of suicide stats).

Yet there is more than one way to define harm. Harm can come in multiple forms and can be easy and hard to identify especially if its not something easy to count or isn't framed in a particular way.

Just because its not shocking and easily packaged up in a nice statistic that people know about doesn't mean its not there.

McCartney talks a lot about this in the context of medicine and how harm can sometimes be hard to be pinned on a particular cause, because of how it manifests and ingrained narratives within society make it difficult for hidden harm to break out and be properly recognised with the gravity it deserves. She talks of how these arise from political prioritization and lobbying.

Ah the cold heartless rational of scientists.

Badges will be of a budgie.

However:

Will it wear a Leopard skin patterned beret (in various colours) or the mn scarf. In various colours.

DickTERFin · 03/04/2018 15:34

I've got my eye on a pair of non-mum boots on ebay, but those Russian fuckers have yet to credit my PayPal account so it looks like they're all yours Liberty_Hex627 .

Maybe I'm not radicalised enough. Listen up Demitri, the chicken won't stretch! I've tried, I've really tried... and I can't wear the scarf. My neck is too short and I can't tolerate animal print, I look like a Weeble version of Bett Lynch but I have done the haircut and I think gender is a load of hierarchical bullshit so if you could just pop £60 into my PayPal, we'll call it even-stevens comrade.

TerfsUp · 03/04/2018 15:26

Recruited and radicalised! That is so great. I want a badge, too.

RedToothBrush · 03/04/2018 15:24

When the feelings of the doctor override the emotional and mental wellbeing of the patient and this is deemed legitimate there is an issue.

Doctors who do not believe in abortion don't have to do them but they are not allowed to restrict access to them or control the patient in this country. For goid bloody reason.

Trust between patients and HCP is based on honesty and integrity. Saying you would prefer a female doctor for intimate examinations is important.

A trans doctor who fails to understand the nature of that request is putting themselves before the patient. Especially if they are not transparent about their status. Its not about transphobia. Its about the need to recognise why the request has been made, where those concerns come from and why they need to be respected.

It is important.

R0wantrees · 03/04/2018 15:11

a reminder of the possible serious implications of self-id for women:

"The woman requested a female NHS nurse to perform the intimate procedure but was dismayed when a staff member with “an obviously male appearance” greeted her. When the patient pointed out the mistake, the nurse replied: “My gender is not male. I’m a transsexual.”

inews.co.uk/news/health/nhs-woman-transgender-nurse-smear-test/

As a consequence of my diagnosis, I have regular internal examinations. My consultant is a man and we know each other very well- given that he spent over six hours operating on me, I trust him deeply. However, there is always a female nurse / HCW present during examinations and this is for bloody good reasons!

Ekphrasis · 03/04/2018 15:01

Redtoothbrush I mean!

Ekphrasis · 03/04/2018 14:59

Good post thread.

It's unfortunate as I have probably voted LD more than labour in the past. For some of the reasons you list.

There's been a few threads here showing LD are similar to Lab and this tweet takes the absolute biscuit.

The LDs could have swung it for many disenfranchised Lab voters, not this one on that issue.

No one left to vote for.

RedToothBrush · 03/04/2018 14:40

Its funny because on the one have official LD policy which advocates political interference from medicine being removed and support for evidence based medicine.

This is one of the areas they are particularly good at and are leading ahead of both the Cons and Labour.

This is really important to some LD voters.

Which ties totally with Margaret McCartney's position on medicine and the problems of lobbying, big pharma etc.

And strangely she's written in the BMJ about trans health being problematic.

This MN thread is about it:
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3207071-Gender-reassignment-opinion-piece-in-this-weeks-BMJ

And then you have the LGBT LD twitter feed saying the women are being radicalised on MN...

...for having concerns about how health care for women will be changed...

Noting of course that this same feed a couple of days ago had them making a point over ticking the female box for blood donation. And encouraging the total replacement of sex with gender in doing so.

This matters in so many ways. The sex of an organ donor is relevant as it effects the success rate. And don't get me started on research.

Will every body part be have to be tested to determine the birth sex of the donor at massive cost to the system because this type of stuff is being encouraged by leading political activists who hold office within our major parties?

Honestly, when you are actively going against the importance of rational of many of your own members and in doing so put yourself at odds with your party's own position on the de-politicisation of the NHS, I think saying that MN is radicalising women is a little bit beyond the pale and might be a little problematic.

All it does is show up the extent to which women's medicine is deemed valueless and at the bottom of priorities and is particularly badly affected by political interference and agendas.

Slow hand clap.

I do hope that the LD spy patrol are out in force.

Report this back to HQ. Go on. Do it.

I challenge you.

Engage with women.

Xenophile · 03/04/2018 14:38

Blimey Red, whoever wrote that UD definition has either got massive issues because their wife left them and went to Paris or has never met a single actual feminist in their lives. Poor lamb

picklemepopcorn · 03/04/2018 14:36

I'm swooning in a fan girl crush at the fierce intelligence, knowledge and wit on this thread. It's about time we ruled the world. Speaking of which, what happened to that possible political party that was discussed now the WEP doesn't care about actual w9men any more?

Ekphrasis · 03/04/2018 14:30

I accept that I am a radical-neo-paleofeminist.

I just put my child in a brand new ski type winter coat (two sizes up to last) to attend a forest School type thing (with parents) and he's literally caked head to toe in mud.

I smashed not caring and have just googled the hell out of how to remove caked mud from a new coat while he sleeps off the marsh mallows.

I think this ability to keep calm in the face of extreme bp raising circumstances means I'm absolutely under Russian control.

This name change will self destruct in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1....

SmurfOrTerf · 03/04/2018 14:25

Wiggy
I know you mean prison
Did you commit some heinous crime ? like not obeying men

CallPrevent · 03/04/2018 14:13

Like being a Mum, the pay and conditions of being a MN spy Hmm are very bad, no days off and no financial compensation.

I resign.

DarthArts · 03/04/2018 14:04

It's so damn counter productive on their part.

This idea that all these benign lovely air headed mothers are being brain washed...

It's unveils the deep underlying misogyny behind these tweets.

WiggyPig · 03/04/2018 13:58

I was radicalised in prison.

No, wait, I meant Mumsnet. Radicalised on Mumsnet.

R0wantrees · 03/04/2018 13:56

I am a member of the LibDems (with a resignation letter pending) and to say I was 'annoyed' by the LibDem LGBT twitter feed would be an understatement of epic proportions....

For the record I am not a Mum (Gyny cancer treatment ended that hope)

SmurfOrTerf · 03/04/2018 13:43

My DH is in for a shock tonight I never knew I was a lesbian.
I will accept the cheque

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 03/04/2018 13:41

Thanks Lana. I had read that idiotic piece.

But the most important question is:

WHERE IS MY MONEY, YOU FACKING RUSSIAN CANTS?

I'm here, working my arse in Terfdom and I haven't received a red rouble for it.

Commie bastards.

CircleSquareCircleSquare · 03/04/2018 13:38

If the Russians want to pay me off could they please just write the cheque to my two middle kids who have decided skidding on their knees is the best thing in the world and I now have to replace their school trousers on a weekly basis.
Actually I’m not sure they’ll take a cheque but they do have PayTERF. Спасибо.

RedToothBrush · 03/04/2018 13:37

Urban Dictionary definition of paleofeminist:

paleofeminist
A person describing themselves as "feminist" who fundamentally believe that women are essentially the victims of millennia of male domination and so should be given the benefit of the doubt in any conflict that a particular woman might have with a particular man; reverse sexist; paleo-anti-feminist

Sue: OMG, she left her husband who adored her, she deserted three children and she took off for Paris with that artist guy with the enigmatic smile. What a selfish, irresponsible loser!

Taylor: Marriage is a trap for women. She was trapped in a marriage by a husband who smothered her. She loved her children, but they sapped all of her sense of self of her. I applaud her choice.

Sue: Oh, Taylor ... I forgot how much of a paleofeminist you are. You think that all women are children.

CircleSquareCircleSquare · 03/04/2018 13:35

Terfifying the shit out of Twitter.

UpstartCrow · 03/04/2018 13:33

Remember back in the bad old days when we were in CND and the Tories accused us of being paid by the Russians?

See Dmitri round the back of Greenham. Bring a bag.

Trumpdump · 03/04/2018 13:28

So the Russains are paying terfs to terf? Where can I get me some of this money?!
