The Lib Dem LGBT twitter feed is annoyed at Mumsnet

Apparently the Alt-Right and 4-Chan are using MN.
I think it's just one person who controls their tweets. I really hope that the top Lib Dems know what's being said.

I was member of the Lib Dems for a long time post Blair/Iraq. I'm genuinely saddened they've taken the stance that they have on the sexist, horrible-to-women-for-being-women tweets.

I'm also disappointed at the Pastoral Care Officer's role in this 'washing of hands'. That's the opposite of what Helena Morrissey recommended the post should achieve :(

All very best wishes, Red. You've opened my eyes to a lot of stuff.

SwearyG · 10/04/2018 13:23

Adding my voice to this @RedToothBrush

You have my support, whatever you decide to do. And gratitude for what you have already done

Re this thread - the LibDems are clearly washing their hands on this issue and won't be getting my subs, assistance or vote again. Politically adrift again, I wonder where we'll end up.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 10/04/2018 12:45

FWIW I took a break from FWR a while back when I thought that the forum had become more about winning on ideological grounds and ideological purity (you are with us or against us) than it was about nuanced debate and allowing for multiple positions within the gender critical spectrum. It all felt like the left I ran away from in the 80s.

This. Red your posts have been consistently excellent, informed and thought provoking and I realise it must take a toll on you. Thanks

I agree that a push to form alliances is going to leave a lot of people a little suspicious.

There are, indeed, many feminist groups which anyone can support already, who have a coherent strategy and a track record.

Many, if not most, people have to be incredibly circumspect about this issue. Both with their personal details and identity, and also having what they say open to scrutiny.

Assuming everyone thinks the same as oneself is a mistake.

Understanding that you can find common ground, despite thinking differently about many details, is necessary. But it doesn't immediately lend itself to an alliance.

@RedToothBrush I hope you're okay. Generally, I mean.

You have a fantastic strategy and highly relevant political knowledge. Coupled with personal experience of this it issue. That combination has to be unusual, if not unique.

Your stresses are going to be amplified by conflicts.

You have my support, whatever you decide to do. And gratitude for what you have already done.

Red look after yourself.

You are an inspiration. Thanks to you I have become engaged in politics in a way I haven't for years.

RedToothbrush
I've lurked MN for years but have only posted in this part and over recent months... have learnt and understood so much from you. Adding my thanks and hopes that you will take good care of yourself.
And my first Flowers for you.... (I'm still not quite sure of the etiquette)

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 10/04/2018 09:34

red

Thanks

Concentrate on you for a while

BoreOfWhabylon · 10/04/2018 09:28

@RedToothBrush

I have learned so much about so much from your posts over the years Red.

Look after yourself now Flowers

WiggyPig · 10/04/2018 09:17

I'm not sure you have much in the way of legal recourse in this situation unless you're a member of the party.

I am also deeply uncomfortable with the term "pile on." I don't know whether your freedom with your own personal information, and carefree use of terms like that, is political naivety or whether you're actually a loose cannon, but the latter is how it is coming across to me. Surely helping an established group would be better than swooping in and trying to co-ordinate everyone else, when the women involved here are not a homogenous group.

DarthArts · 10/04/2018 01:10

Maybe taking a break from it is a good idea?

It's not all on you Red.

It's not all on anyone.

It's a muddied mess of stinking cow shit that most of us are either having to wade through, skirt round the edges or be carried over on a palanquin.

Then there are people such as yourself that are expected to do the clean up.

In all honesty the letter that was received back from the Lib Dems is bullshit.

They own the trade mark on the name "Lib Dem" in the UK (trademarks.ipo.gov.uk/ipo-tmcase/page/Results/1/UK00002384669) and also the graphic used is their logo (also trademarked trademarks.ipo.gov.uk/ipo-tmcase/page/Results/1/UK00002384668 ).

If this group is not affiliated with the lib dems and they don't condone their actions then any reasonable trademark holder would have taken action to stop them from using their name and logo once they were made aware. Failure to take any action is tacit endorsement of the group and IMHO as a lawyer (but not UK qualified) it makes them liable.

RedToothBrush · 10/04/2018 00:30

I have to detatch myself from it all on here. Getting involved with something I don't think I could continue to do that. I think it could destroy me all over again. I retain my sanity by sticking to the rationally and reason. I know that's not for everyone, but its how I cope. Its that or fearing I'll lose my mind. I'm not doing so well atm.

DarthArts · 10/04/2018 00:24

Red - I've read many of your posts and know that you very much have "skin in the game" here.

I've also found many of your posts very informative and helpful.

I (think) get where you are coming from and frankly feel the same, in the sense that every time I feel I've found "my people" on this issue, I end up disappointed.

I'll admit that at times the fault has been mine as I've changed/developed/matured my understanding of the issues.

Suffice to say I'm now quite reticent to "ally" myself with anyone (in an organised sense).

I'm sorry, its late and this is maybe a very clumsy post. I just wanted to say that at the brief time when I "went off the rails" and fell into the trap of being "OverPeaked" you and Datun were brilliant at challenging that and presenting a reasoned response.

I really appreciate that.

I've since made a very big effort to engage less emotionally on the matter and with much more thought.

I suppose what I'm trying to say is thank you and that I very much appreciate your input.

RedToothBrush · 10/04/2018 00:23

I'm sorry. I just don't trust anyone anymore.

I can not put myself out there and allow myself to get caught up with any politically motivated group. Its too easy to get sucked up and into. TRAs are cult like and I have no wish to find myself heavily involved with something so emotionally charged against that for fear of it becoming similar.

I trust my own obsessions. I can't trust those of other people. I can do what I can when I feel able on my own terms then. Without feeling pressure nor obligation.

I feel like this one has already eaten me up and spat me out.

Agrona · 10/04/2018 00:07

RedToothBrush
Agreed. Flowers

RedToothBrush · 09/04/2018 23:42

Back off. I don't need to be told what's best for me.

LineyGynae · 09/04/2018 23:41

I do not need to organise with anyone, but I do feel it's often helpful to swap info where it could be relevant to putting a form of words together.

Bufferingkisses · 09/04/2018 23:38

For the record it's deeply personal to me too. Affects my life directly and I am torn in two by it a lot if the time. Still not prepared to be steamrollered.

Bufferingkisses · 09/04/2018 23:36

I haven't organised with anyone Red? I am sick and tired of being labelled as x y or z for the crime of being born and remaining a woman. It now seems I can be labelled yet again for the crime of being a parent and using a parenting site where people post outside of the realm of parenting.

I'm angry about the liberties being taken and I am starting to find my voice - because I feel I need to. No pile on, no organisation just reached my fill of this shit #abouttimethedebatestarted

RedToothBrush · 09/04/2018 23:35

No I don't wish to explain.

I don't owe anyone an explanation for how I feel over this.

I learnt that a while ago.

My position is much more complicated than most here. Its deeply personal and has had a massive impact on my life.

I'm not willing to open myself up to more shit over this. I already feel like I'm clinging by fingertips.

With respect, I am uncomfortable with the term pile on. And I have very different concerns to many. I would rather not be part of an organised campaign that I do not feel comfortable with in its entirety for that reason.

I am very disturbed by the whole thing and that women are automatically being lumped together.

I do not see any of this ending well.
