See what they are re-tweeting:

twitter.com/LGBTLD

(Not sure how to link to the exact tweet but it's the Cole Zachary one).

There really is no one to vote for, is there?

They don't mean Janice Turner, they mean Janice Raymond. Straight TRA propaganda speech. Janice saw this situation coming a long way off. She wrote "the Transsexual Empire" in the 70s and I believe advised the US government. Transactivists hate her. This is American transactivist spin. It has nothing to do with the Lib Dems or the situation in the U.K.

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 29/03/2018 17:03

I cannot imagine a situation in which a woman could be publicly into kink, into polyamory, reply to people asking about a complaints procedure with aggressive snark and EVER WORK FOR A POLITICAL PARTY AGAIN.

cf Heather, Lily, Paris et al.

RosenbergW · 29/03/2018 16:05

The lib dems also have Zoe O'Connell, who is on the Executive Board of LGBT+ Libdems, "currently City Councillor in Cambridge and Vice-Chair of the Liberal Democrats' Federal Conference Committee and co-author of the Liberal Democrats Equalities policy paper", male 'lesbian', partner of Sarah Brown (they are in a polyamourous multi person relationship), who previously was a husband with three children. Zoe vert recently referred to Venice as a terf:
mobile.twitter.com/zoeimogen/status/955877901223809024

And Woman's Place as transphobic:
mobile.twitter.com/zoeimogen/status/958045820842102785

And the chair of the committee, tweeting as misssb, is Jennie Rigg, another 'bisexual transwoman polyamourist' (no shade here for polyamorous relationships, just interesting how they all describe themselves). Jennie Rigg perpetuates the lie that radical feminists invented the word 'terf' as "a term coined by non TE radical feminists to distinguish themselves from RFs who wished to exclude trans women; as such I view it as an entirely non controversial neutral term."
mobile.twitter.com/miss_s_b/status/979122844885045249

This is not true - 'terf' was coined by liberal feminists from the blog Hoyden About Town who wanted to divide what they considered nice radical feminists from nasty ones. This has obviously been a very useful and effective lie for trans activist males in helping them to appropriate feminism.

These two males who identify as women -
Jennie and Zoe - comprise two of the three 'women' on the LGBT+ libdem executive (no idea about Hollie Matthies except they identify as bisexual).

It really never ends. These dudes claim they are kept out of politics but do they encounter any of the problems women do in getting placements and prominence in political parties? Do they have the same financial difficulties (being financially independent and able to take on political roles alongside work/caring responsibilities)?

A surprising number of them are also disabled in one way or another. I haven't noticed disabled women being able to enter politics as easily. Ditto their public embrace of bdsm and similar. These men are able to enter politics because the invisible rules and barriers women experience are totally nonexistent for them.

Dafodill

Many white conservative men with chips on shoulders and MRAs go on about intersectional feminism and refer to it simply as 'feminism/feminists' as though it is a definitive theory and that there is no debate/opposition to it from (actual) feminists.

They then write/speak reams about it on FB/Twitter/YouTube about how fucking unreasonable feminists are and how men and especially white men, are at the bottom of the 'pile'.

And to be honest, it you were a young white man without a lot of experience of the world, especially the young socially awkward techie types, I think it would be easy enough to buy into it all. Certainly, in the identity politics bollocks, the young white men are at the bottom of the pile. I would say 'fuck that' to that too.

My teenage son (young, inexperienced, socially awkward, techie gamer white male) was certainly influenced by this type of dialogue and it has taken me some time to detoxify the ideas on feminism he heard from the likes of Sargon of Akkad and the whole gamergate saga. He now supports 'mum's kind of feminism'. (Still working on him).

I think Bannon and others have fed into this. In fact, from their perspective, it makes perfect sense to do so.

ReluctantCamper · 29/03/2018 15:51

Umm Daff0dil I don't want to rush you with that tinfoil hat, but some campaigning account has literally just started a thread in feminist chat urging us to complain about lib dem LGBT twitter account.

How's your crystal ball?

Daff0dil · 29/03/2018 15:38

NotShuttingUporSittingdown, yes... I have been closely examining my bonce a lot since reading it. I can assure you that I have no taste for such millinery but the quote did rather jump out at me last week.

It is a very very complex picture I'm sure... requiring careful and nuanced consideration.

OvaHere · 29/03/2018 15:29

It feels like (and I might be wrong here) that most of what now stand as official/semi official twitter accounts have grown from smaller issue based groups within all the political parties.

They've been left to flourish because either the main party reps haven't had a good handle on social media or view them as more niche issues that they don't know enough about.

For example The Labour Autistic Network twitter account that was set up in January, it's not blue ticked nor is it transparent who runs it or what qualifies them to do so.

To my mind the process should be along the lines of, we want to run a SM account to encourage neurodiverse people into politics as part of a wider campaign, these are our clear aims and objectives, this is the person chosen to run the SM and here are their qualifications to do so.

At the moment it seems anyone can set up an account affiliated with a political party and conflate any number of political issues using the account as TLAN did with posts about TWAW.

Nobody seems to be stepping in to regulate any of this with some accountability.

HomeTerf · 29/03/2018 15:20

Unreal Certain

Assuming it's not a spoof account, the upside is that it's exposing the TRAs as the utter fools they are.

Have they forgotten that they need people to vote for them? Or do they think that in this brave new world they just have to stamp their feet and demand seats in parliament?

NotShuttingUpOrSittingDown · 29/03/2018 15:11

Daff0dil that is freaky and making me feel a bit tinfoil hatted.

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 29/03/2018 15:10

I can't believe this conversation!

mobile.twitter.com/LGBTLD/status/979347107688611840?p=v

Are these politicians? Or have their kids got hold of their Twitter feed? Where are the grown ups? Shock

Daff0dil · 29/03/2018 15:06

UpstartCrow
The agenda does indeed seem to drive people to the right, whilst also silencing women.

In the midst of Carol Caldewaller's long read about Cambridge Analytica is this interesting quote:

"A few months later, in autumn 2013, Wylie met Steve Bannon. At the time, he was editor-in-chief of Breitbart, which he had brought to Britain to support his friend Nigel Farage in his mission to take Britain out of the European Union.
What was he like?
“Smart,” says Wylie. “Interesting. Really interested in ideas. He’s the only straight man I’ve ever talked to about intersectional feminist theory. He saw its relevance straightaway to the oppressions that conservative, young white men feel.”

RosenbergW · 29/03/2018 14:57

What is this “aunty” shit?

I have often wondered this but it creeps me out in a 'I'm your kindly male aunty, come and see my puppies" way.

UpstartCrow · 29/03/2018 14:55

I think its the case that organisations and political parties have been infiltrated by people with an agenda.

The agenda is abusive, and seems designed to drive people to the Right.

53rdWay · 29/03/2018 14:55

What is this “aunty” shit?

RosenbergW · 29/03/2018 14:53

.. and the greens have Stella Gardiner, or "auntystella" (aka "greenstella" and too many other names to list due to frequent meltdowns on twitter and elsewhere). Stella once claimed that women who argued for safe space away from males are “extremists and enemies of all women!":
www.newstatesman.com/politics/2015/02/when-i-was-raped-it-was-female-only-spaces-helped-me-recover

..and although again he has scrubbed the Internet of some of his worst misogynistic tirades, he still has frequent bursts of 'evil terfs are trying to deny my existence' type nonsense all over the place, followed by flounces and deletions. He is also responsible for frequently spreading libellous claims against Miranda Yardley in order to try and discredit them as a trans person critical of trans activism.

53rdWay · 29/03/2018 14:42

I have seen a LibDem activist guy I know gleefully posting stuff on soc. media about how TERFs are just jealous of trans women’s newer vaginas, and I am not even kidding. LibDems lost it for me some time ago.

(Hey remember when they espoused the free expression views of liberalism, where you could disagree with what someone said or believed, but defend to the death their right to say and believe it? Ha, that was a laugh.)

RosenbergW · 29/03/2018 14:42

The tories were also influenced in forming their trans policies by male who identifies as a woman and one-time Conservative candidate Tara Hewitt:
mobile.twitter.com/Tara_Hewitt/status/965682325211303937

Tara was also the equality and diversity advisor for Wirral and a pro bdsm advocate while being against lesbian couples adopting or having access to ivf.

Daff0dil · 29/03/2018 14:30

yes, I had noticed this too seems to be the case in WEP and Greens too.

I do wonder how much these individuals work together....

RosenbergW · 29/03/2018 14:27

The Conservative Councillor for Westhoughton North and Chew Moor is a male who identifies as female:
mobile.twitter.com/ZoeKirkRobinson/status/889083918133194752

..and claims that Caroline Flint is transphobic for being concerned about men entering women's toilets and showers to illegally make illegal videos of women:
mobile.twitter.com/ZoeKirkRobinson/status/804375911281885184

Every party seems to have at least one trans activist in a prominent position who denies that women are a distinct class from males who identify as women and publicly accuses women of transphobia when they argue for safe spaces away from men.

Daff0dil · 29/03/2018 14:23

For example, in a recent FB group where LibDem 'newbies' were trying to understand the issue of self id better. Sarah Brown helpfully explained about WPUK etc..

Members were advised about the consequences of 'transphobia'.

Just when you thought the LibDems couldn't out-crazy Labour...
LittleLebowski · 29/03/2018 14:21

Monstersister that sounds like my area Sutton & Cheam. I used to deliver leaflets for the LibDem council so know a couple of councillors. I'm going to complain.

nauticant · 29/03/2018 14:14

I'm reaching a similar point. I don't know what the fuck is going on but these days "progressive" groupings in political parties seem to attract abusive individuals who then are able to turn the environment toxic while others just look the other way. I would rather have to deal with plain bigots from 50 years ago who at least will be direct and honest about where they stand.

MonsterSister · 29/03/2018 14:06

Bugger, that's my local council. The local Conservative MP, on the other hand, is definitely applying actual thought to the issue rather than retweeting infantile one-liners.

I have never voted Conservative. I'm starting to feel I may have to.

Daff0dil · 29/03/2018 14:01

A woman at WPUK (London meeting) described how vociferously discussion is closed down on LibDem social media platforms and discussions with members. I don't think there will many surprises here as to which are the most powerful of voices as people start to expose this. What will be incredibly shocking, is the extent of the silencing & manipulation.
What is vital is to ensure that there is very clear focus on challenging the impact of some incredibly powerful TRAs.
As James Kirkup commented:
"the people responsible for the fear and abuse these women suffer are not representative of transgender people as a whole; the transgender population must be assumed to contain as wide a distribution of vice and virtue as any other group"
