CanIBuffalo · 29/03/2018 21:57

I liked Adam Ant except for the lip gloss. Hate it on anyone.

Whilst we're on the topic of Vince, let's not forget the first band he formed was Depeche Mode.

Goodness me, I'm starting to feel nostalgia for leg warmers and ra ra skirts ;-)

hipsterfun · 29/03/2018 21:43

Pretty sure that Adam Ant caused the first stirrings of heterosexuality in my 8 or 9 year old self.

For me, it was Boy George. Make of that what you will Grin

holycheeseplant · 29/03/2018 21:24

The NZ rugby team do ballet it's so tough. (To support core. Prob a lot of Pilates)

DontDrinkDontSmoke · 29/03/2018 21:19

I still do lost he’s still fucking amazing.

Viago · 29/03/2018 21:16

I hope SF comes back to read this and realises everyone got bored of talking about SF and moved onto much more interesting people, e.g. Adam Ant. I think that will enrage SF.

Well done Mumsnet!

Melamin · 29/03/2018 21:13

Ballet is very manly [nods wisely] You just need to be in a room with a man that is jumping [blown away] It is powerful.

(Ballerinas bloody brilliant too)

OlennasWimple · 29/03/2018 21:07

Kurt Cobain in eyeliner.....

BeUpStanding · 29/03/2018 21:02

Keeping with the video theme of brilliant heterosexual men not giving a fuck about society's narrow definition of things Things That Are Manly, how about ballet?

AngryAttackKittens · 29/03/2018 20:58

I'm so with the rest of you on missing the 80s and 90s, when it was OK for men not to look like angry lumberjacks and women weren't expected to walk around in full on drag makeup at all times (14 year olds contouring, wtf?). There are still pockets of it being OK in a few places, but now you have to actively look for it, whereas back then it was everywhere.

Part of it is definitely the "gender" kids not having the backbone to shrug in the face of ridicule (which was part of what I always liked about the men who tend to adopt the glam or more feminine goth or emo looks), but there's a lot of authoritarianism going on too. These are not people who cope well with the idea that they can make a demand and other people can say "no". The rise of gender ID provides them with an excellent way to be as bossy and controlling as they like under the guise of social justice.

OlennasWimple · 29/03/2018 20:58

I don't personally like the looks he goes for, but James Charles is amazing at make up, and completely content (it appears) with being a gay man who is amazing at make up

lostplot · 29/03/2018 20:56

God I used to fancy the arse off Adam Ant, those were the days!

Itmakesthereaderreadon · 29/03/2018 20:53

I found out the other day that the reason I don't understand some of the words in 'Loser' is because they're in Spanish.

holycheeseplant · 29/03/2018 20:48

Yes she is, her mum is Lisa Bonnet.

boatyardblues · 29/03/2018 20:46

I’d forgotten about the Yazoo/Vince/Alison link! That explains it. Thank you.

Isn’t Lenny’s daughter Katniss Everdene’s best bud (Christine?) in the first Hunger Games film?

Lenny rocking a fabulous culotte type dress and stonking heels.

I followed it through a bbc thing on 'songs you never knew were about god' - this being one.

As is apparently this one... (literally the sexiest music video ever.) Eyeliner applied in the opening scene!

though were the days...

(I was surprised at how fresh the Lenny film looks!)

MyOwnShed · 29/03/2018 20:33

My first album was Erasure, many moons ago.

DisturblinglyOrangeScrambleEgg · 29/03/2018 20:32

Pretty sure that Adam Ant caused the first stirrings of heterosexuality in my 8 or 9 year old self... the stripe over his nose, the braided jacket...

I can't believe the tweet about being sluttier than you are - aimed at 17 year old girls. Talk about a male point of view, forgetting how bloody dangerous that is for women. Men always minimize the dangers of sex for women, because it's in their own interests to do so

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 29/03/2018 20:31

Maybe 1986. I won't get Erasure though...

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 29/03/2018 20:30

Because she was in Yazoo with Vince innit? I want to go back in time to 1990 and hang out in Soho.

boatyardblues · 29/03/2018 19:52

There was a link to Alison Moyet singing ‘Only You’ live with an orchestra at Burberry’s S/S16 catwalk show under that Erasure YouTube link: m.youtube.com/watch?v=PHISaPkPagU Very classy! I 💛 Alison.

OlennasWimple · 29/03/2018 19:48

SF is the personification of petulance
