Unless like me you lived in a house with a Betamax video recorder. I had my own video tape that was filled with clips from TOTP. I used to cut out the presenters much like taping the radio charts on a Sunday night.

I had notes of the positions of all the best stuff and would record over stuff I’d got tired of. Adam ant and the Duran boys always made the cut.

That tape was my pride and joy. The video player broke down and the repair man picked it up to test it...I actually screamed at him to put it (the fuck) down Grin

Pretty sure that Adam Ant caused the first stirrings of heterosexuality in my 8 or 9 year old self... the stripe over his nose, the braided jacket...

Exactly this. My 8 year old self has been swooning over these video's - he is such a beautiful man.

One good thing about today is that we can reminisce via Youtube etc.

When we were actually living in the Adam and the Ants days you only got to watch the video once a week on TOTP.

My first serious crush was Marilyn.

He had a girl's name and a face full of make up but he was obviously, unmistakeably male.

Just as SF, LM and all the rest of them are now not remotely fanciable though

OMG, I actually fancied Matthew Baynton for a while after seeing that Horrible Histories video.

I definitely haven't been trying to get my kids to watch Horrible Histories in order to have an excuse to watch that..

Btw - apropos to nothing, but I just want to tell you all -

Someone tweeted to Lily Madigan "I loved you in Hanson" and Madigan replied "I wasn't in Hanson". Which I just thought was too funny.

I was only 4 when stand and deliver was out but I remember a bit of a crush on him in that video.

And yes to Brian. Interesting that he was at goldsmiths and is an honorary member or something.

Michael Praed was a gorgeous man with long hair...Also love a man with eyeliner.

Loved all the different 80s tribes - things seem much more uniform in fashion now.

Obviously memories of my first crush - Adam Ant, I was about 10, I think. First poster on my wall. And he had significant mental health issues - I wonder what would have happened to him in these "woke" times. Probably nothing good.

I'm a new member, hotfoot over here from Twitter, where I was alerted to the fact that MN is the only place where women can safely discuss these issues without suffering abuse, blocking, suspension, etc. These are frightening times for women, to be honest. I have no kids but am a former high school head who would be enraged if I were expected to disseminate some of the nonsense schools are receiving these days.
