I'm struggling for words....

What's DV done right supposed to look like?

This is part of Jane trying to argue why women don't need single sex spaces....own goal right there.

I don't like the sound of jane.

Newcastle civil servant Darryn Walker was charged with publishing obscene material in respect of a story, Girls (Scream) Aloud, posted nearly two years ago on an internet archive based in the US, dedicated to hosting stories of an erotic nature. Walker's blog was seriously questionable both on grounds of literary merit and taste: a work of violent sexual fantasy involving the mutilation and murder of each member of the Girls Aloud pop group, whose body parts are then sold on e-Bay

The significance of this case lay in the fact that the matter in question was wholly written... it has come to be assumed that the written word to all intents and purposes falls outside the scope of the act

some thought should go to the defendant in this case. He has lost his job. He has been pilloried in the press. His reputation is in tatters. More to the point, he has spent a year in limbo, unable to get on with his life and undoubtedly under great stress. Although found not guilty, this delay means he has suffered a form of extra-legal punishment of a form that seems all too frequently to be associated with OPA cases — presumably "pour encourager les autres". Doubtless he won't be receiving any apologies, either

If the Obscene Publications Act is once again in trouble, one obvious solution would be simply to abolish it

John Ozimek and Julian Petley were expert witnesses for the defence.

In a feat of irony not seen since the dawn of time, Jane runs/ran a free speech pressure group.

Oh, this is priceless , Xenophile!

Xenophile · 27/03/2018 14:53

But does Fae really advocate for the decriminalisation of violent porn?

Yes Datun

In a feat of irony not seen since the dawn of time, Jane runs/ran a free speech pressure group. Dedicated to porn that depicts the kind of hardcore BDSM they are alleged to be really into themselves, including, allegedly, consent play.

Datun · 27/03/2018 14:52

Shon Faye - enjoy your erasure.
India Willoughby - hairy legs on women are unhygienic. But not on men.
Paris Lees - objectification is hot.
Fae - DV gone wrong. Accidental murder. Pro porn.

And these are the TIMs who are considered uncontroversial enough to represent transactivism. FFS.

God only knows what the controversial ones would spout.

Xenophile · 27/03/2018 14:50

I feel a bit yucky thinking that Fae reads us...............

They all do, even the self important little Morph dupe does, it's how they can dismiss women as merely being a bunch of middle-aged, middle class whiners. Although all that proves is that they don't actually understand the demographic of Mumsnet.

And catspaw stop making excuses for men's shitty behaviour. It's really liberating when you do.

Kneedeepinunicorns · 27/03/2018 14:49

Interesting review. Again fascinating that someone who has consistently over time expressed their despising of women, their right to be protected from discrimination and the unimportance of their consent, identifies as one.

The answer is of course, that they don't. Its another case of identify as (the stereotype, the appearance, the bits that were the focus of anger and jealousy and which stimulate thrill), not identify with . The exact reason women need to be able to say No, clearly, to these entitled, angry individuals.

DarthArts · 27/03/2018 14:46

@Catspaws

Ok - you might be willing to let Jane passively aggressively knit their way out of this but you're in a minority.

The whole thread - not just that sentence - positively drips with a callous and calculating misogynistic undertone.

Add that to the extensive back catalogue of (and I'll be diplomatic here) controversial articles and musings it's a stretch at best, to assume Jane didn't actually mean what they wrote.

The quote marks are a red herring frankly. Even if Jane is using this to say it's other people's excuses, the context in which that's used is still fundamentally inappropriate by using this to justify the opener of murder being boring, pedestrian and even accidental. The premise being argued that booze, a thin skull and DV means someone did not intend to murder.

There are many women dead because their partners/ex partners - even after years of physical abuse did absolutely intend to murder the victim.

There's absolutely not one single thing that's boring about that - it's outrageous.

Try and justify Jane all you like but I promise it's not a good look on anyone.

DonkeySkin

I can't bring myself to read those articles Fae wrote, not least because they are an absolute crap writer.

But does Fae really advocate for the decriminalisation of violent porn?

UrsulaPandress · 27/03/2018 14:13

I feel a bit yucky thinking that Fae reads us...............

ArcheryAnnie · 27/03/2018 14:02

Maybe every time we mention Fae, we should express ourselves thus: "Jane Fae, who is campaigning to overturn rape-by-deception laws", "Jane Fae, who advocates for the right to "consensual slavery"", etc etc.

CapnHaddock · 27/03/2018 13:55

Ozimek's a big fan of extreme porn and even wrote a book about how men should be allowed to enjoy it. www.thefword.org.uk/2010/09/beyond_the_circ/

According to that review, in the book: "Rape is coyly and somewhat ambiguously referred to as “the use of real force to get one’s way"

53rdWay · 27/03/2018 13:54

aye Sardine. And not only zero understanding of what women experience, but zero care that women actually DO experience what we say we’re experiencing. Our fears and our concerns are not real, not deeply held, not legitimate. They’re trivial at best and a front for something nefarious at worst.

Same with Catspaw here - we’re not really horrified and repulsed by this, we’re just pretending to be so that we can get our kicks being mean to trans people.

Basic misogyny: women don’t have inner lives.

SardineQueen · 27/03/2018 13:48

Just went and read the whole thread. What a weird load of bollocks.

Zero understanding of the female experience in there, should that be a surprise, coming as it does from a woman...?

Note reference to MN. Hello there.

ArcheryAnnie · 27/03/2018 13:45

She's using "quotes" to indicate that she doesn't hold that view herself

Yeah, sure. Look at Fae's history, Catspaw.

Oh, and I don't experience witnessing the endless parade of woman-hating, vicitim-blaming misogyny from people like Fae as "fun". Hope that helps.

SardineQueen · 27/03/2018 13:42

And the stuff in articles they have written, or do they not represent this person's views either?

Were YOU well aware of and highly anticpatory of the changes to the law over extreme porn?

If YOU were getting a divorce, would you "limber up" for it by viewing material that breaches these rules:
"The pic must be pornographic, or produced for sexual purposes. It must be realistic. It must contain certain specific imagery, including necrophilia, bestiality, activity depicting serious harm to breast, anus or genitals or life-threatening activity. Finally, it must be grossly offensive, as determined either by a jury or magistrate."

?

53rdWay · 27/03/2018 13:42

I’m thoughtfully engaging, Catspaws. I’m particularly thoughtfully engaging with the idea that DV deaths are “accidental” - that is, not intended by their perpetrators - and the idea that us silly women need putting right about how lethal violence is not as glamorous or sexy as it looks on TV.

To be fair, though, I have a lot less expertise in extreme porn than Jane does. My only direct experience here is remembering the look in my boyfriend’s eyes when he had his hand round my throat.

SardineQueen · 27/03/2018 13:41

Where is that quote from, then?

Jane's head, is where.

SardineQueen · 27/03/2018 13:37

I didn't realise this was an MRA. I don't really know who they are TBH although have heard the name.

Many of the high profile TRAs seem to be MRAs.

Catspaws · 27/03/2018 13:37

She's using "quotes" to indicate that she doesn't hold that view herself, but is referring to the excuses and justifications men use. It is so blindingly obvious that she is doing this that I can only assume you've deliberately ignored it because it's more fun to whip up controversy on mumsnet than to actually thoughtfully engage on a subject.

SardineQueen · 27/03/2018 13:36

"Limbering up for a divorce by looking at internet porn sites may provide a degree of self-gratification: but if the end result is going to be a bitter battle over money, maintenance and kids, be very careful."

This person is TOTALLY a woman. This is exactly what women do when divorce is on the horizon.

Fucking hell.

SardineQueen · 27/03/2018 13:34

"Unless you happen to have been living on Mars for the last year or so, you probably know that this week (January 26 to be precise) it will become a criminal offence (in England and Wales) to possess pictures that the government deems to be "extreme porn". You might also be aware of two diametrically opposed views on this legislation."

??

No? I doubt my mum did either, or my dad for that matter. Or my children.

Who will have been keeping such a close eye on the progression of this legislation and when it came into force? One group springs to mind.

SardineQueen · 27/03/2018 13:32

"Oh, but so glad Jane’s put us women all right on how lethal violence isn’t the “glamorous” and “sexed-up” thing we’re all imagining in our fevered little brains."

Also, this.

It's a very male perspective isn't it, consuming all the glossy images of women being raped and murdered. Most women I know have noticed that the way these dramas present violent espcially sexually violent crime against women as titllating.

SardineQueen · 27/03/2018 13:30

So men who murder their female partners, do so because they don't realise the consequences of their actions?

Because the poor men don't realise the "potentially fatal" consequences of their violent actions?

Even the ones who pick up a knife, stab multiple times, or bludgeon, or decapitate, etc?

Poor blokes, it's definitely true that they struggle to understand that murderously attacking a woman will result in her death, they need to be given much leeway becauase of this, also women have such thin skulls, I mean, what are they even like???
