FFS. Flagged at work for gender critical views

It's happening.

I'm new in a private sector company. My personal twitter doesn't mention my employer. I've apparently been flagged as 'high risk' for my gender critical views (linking to articles, carefully worded, no abusive language obviously) on my twitter feed. Boss is sympathetic but has told me to be very careful and to not ever mention at work.

We are being silenced for holding perfect legitimate pro-women views and concerns. I'm fuming and scared - both for my job and for women.

Yup Andrew Gilligan - over here...

Daff0dil · 26/03/2018 14:52

Manipulation by social media is under the spotlight... hopefully this is one of the next areas thoroughly investigated and soon to be exposed. I believe it warrants it....

vicviking · 26/03/2018 14:51

Personnel would spend alot of time in industrial tribunals if they were sacking people who stated biological facts.

Aren't gender critical people more likely to be females.
If your work is targeting you because of GC views then does this constitute sex discrimination?

MagneticMan · 26/03/2018 14:51

Just looked at the KilgoreSprout account and apparently #ManFriday is a "Terf hate group" (except, it's not).

But what did these people post? How did they define transphobia?

nipersvest · 26/03/2018 14:48

yes, there is a question about social media on the ESTA form but at the moment, it's optional to complete it not mandatory, but suspect it will be one day soon.

LadyinCement · 26/03/2018 14:48

There was a thread last week where a poster who said they were in personnel said they would fire and have fired people for transphobic views on social media, and they confirmed that this included posting on MN threads...

This strikes me as being a bit like that time when the Creationists were trying to take over. Luckily, science won out, mostly. Sadly, this time it seems science is losing.

Can you claim that you are being oppressed - as woman, as a believer is Science?

AmoraObscura · 26/03/2018 14:46

Anything that doesn't accept men as women in any way is deemed transphobic.

DairyisClosed · 26/03/2018 14:46

Well it's a bit late in the day. This kind of censure has been going on for years involving people with other controversial beliefs. We have an entire generation of double thinking pseudo liberals to deal with. The best you can do is try to teach your children that freedom of expression is the most valuable thing in the world and hope they do more to protect it than their predecessors.

LadyinCement · 26/03/2018 14:45

This is really quite horrifying. I can honestly see how a population becomes cowed and, in due course, how some people feel it is a good thing to denounce enemies of what is the approved line. It’s as if there are Stasi-style spies stationed at their computers. Perhaps even our dcs will be encouraged to blow the whistle on their bigoted mothers once the trans agenda gets embedded in schools.

Daff0dil · 26/03/2018 14:44

I think it may be more about making links with people / organisations / positions which have been / are more easily accused of 'hate speech' / transphobia. There are a number of very active twitter accounts which have been collecting, manipulating and distributing 'evidence'

montenotte · 26/03/2018 14:44

last time i filled in an ESTA form there was a field asking for your social media details...

Lovesagin · 26/03/2018 14:42

Sarah that's awful. Did mnhq give the police your address? Did they tell you they had done it? I recall your thread and the obvious reason of the outfit.....can't believe the fucking police contacted you about that.

Catspaws · 26/03/2018 14:41

It's hard to imagine you've been flagged as high risk unless some of the things you've said or been linked with on Twitter are actually transphobic. It's not really relevant what language was used if the content can be seen as transphobic. Also, while you may be retweeting individual tweets which are not transphobic if they come from an account which has posted transphobic stuff elsewhere your retweets could be seen as an endorsement of that.

If you work for a private company you sort of have to expect that they're entitled to have their own standards that they expect employees to adhere to, and they're entitled to caution you if you're engaging in activities or airing views which run contrary to their policies or ethos. That has always been the case in business.

You can resolve this by making your twitter private or changing it to a pseudonym and then saying whatever you like.

TRA LURKER ALERT ALERT ALERT!

Theswaggyotter · 26/03/2018 14:39

This is just unbelievable 😡
Is there any way you could ask your boss in what way you are breaking any rules? People should not feel under threat due to insidious threats like this. Believing in science and biology is not a bad thing - how can anyone say that it is??

Daff0dil · 26/03/2018 14:35

all of the 'evidence' has been collected and redistributed by accounts such as Cursed who visited here recently, Guiliana, KIlgore Sprout etc

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 26/03/2018 14:35

User
Read my post.

We are not shutting up

Hope this helps

redshoeblueshoe · 26/03/2018 14:34

User where's the transphobia ?
If you can actually see any report to HQ and they'll delete it

YetAnotherSpartacus · 26/03/2018 14:34

I was contacted by the Police at work (the police had got my details from MNHQ) regarding a MN post I started. I'd had a transwoman come for a job interview in an incredibly inappropriate outfit and started a thread. The Police deemed it 'not transphobic' in anyway but it was frightening

I remember this thread and can 'testify' that this is true. many posters thought it a transphobic wind-up at the time because women always lie and fantasise.

Daff0dil · 26/03/2018 14:32

It may be more about demonstrating links eg with a person / organisation / position which is more easily accused / has been accused of 'hate speech'/ transphobia

YetAnotherSpartacus · 26/03/2018 14:31

High risk to the company's reputation. Yup; just questioning erosion of women's rights is a dangerous view

I've had to refrain from calling a masculine-presenting (think 'This is England") born-male who was overtly condescending and aggressive to women by their preferred pronoun (hint, 'not 'he') for fear of losing my job. It made me sick.
