Another prominent T claiming to be a little bit autistic

I know this is my sole topic of conversation but it’s so bloody important that biological women are not erased from the autistic spectrum by biological men claiming to be autistic. It’s hard enough to get diagnosed if you’re female without having diagnostic criteria appropriated and dictated by males. It took decades for the male brain aspect of autism to be binned.

A prolific twitter transperson is now claiming to be “a bit autistic”. The fact this person is an absolute walloper doesn’t really help and it’s entirely wrong to claim you’re a bit autistic - you either are or you aren’t. Just like sex you don’t get to pick and choose which bits of autism you get to experience. It forms your entire experience of the world. You cannot be a little bit autistic just like
You cannot be female with a penis.

I can’t talk about this on autistic twitter as so many have been brainwashed? Manipulated? I’m not sure what, but a certain contingent of trans & autistic advocates get very aggressive and persistent if you disagree with them and I can’t face the onslaught of trans and autistic hate that would ensue.

Just needed to rant about this.

Lily posted a picture of a hospital letter fairly recently with some diagnoses. It was depression and self harm, no mention of schizophrenia.

Lily lies and lies and lies.

Whinberry · 22/03/2018 14:06

Autism is a spectrum but not one that goes from 'none' to 'lots' so you can be just a little bit. It is a spectrum in verbal ability, language ability, social imagination, etc. But you ate either 'on the spectrum' or not. A good explanation here: the-art-of-autism.com/understanding-the-spectrum-a-comic-strip-explanation/

AreYouTerfEnough · 22/03/2018 14:06

Autistic people have an above average suicide rate and end up dying prematurely because we can’t access health care and often don’t realise we’re even ill. We often can’t communicate with healthcare providers either and we’re bullied and judged everywhere we go.

LifelongVaginaOwner · 22/03/2018 14:06

LM has previously claimed to have been involved in a study that compared the brain patterns of trans adolescents. Wouldn't Lily's various conditions have skewed any results?

AreYouTerfEnough · 22/03/2018 14:04

My autism means I can’t get through an hour of the day without thinking I’d be better off dead and my autistic son can’t be in school due to bullying.

elliejjtiny · 22/03/2018 14:04

I hate that phrase. Usually it means that they have one or two characteristics which isn't the same thing at all. It's like people who like cleaning saying they have a bit of ocd. It minimizes the problems that people who actually have asd or ocd have to cope with

AreYouTerfEnough · 22/03/2018 14:03

missmoneyplant you only receive a diagnosis of autism if you meet the diagnostic criteria which includes the triad of impairment.

Having the odd trait does not make you autistic. It is not a continuum - which I’m assuming you meant instead of spectrum, which is something different.

Autism is a very disabling condition and causes endless stress and difficulty for the autistic person.

It is not a cute label to be appropriated in order to pretend you’re speshul.

SusanBunch · 22/03/2018 14:01

There is no way you would confuse schizotypal personality disorder with schizophrenia if you had been diagnosed with the latter. A friend from school has schizophrenia and he struggles immensely to live a normal life. I am just surprised that this diagnosis has not been made public before- e.g. in LM's fight with their secondary school over the uniform. Self-diagnosis as schizotypal is something very very different. I am unconvinced that you would get an NHS diagnosis so quickly for something like that.

The 'lesbian' thing is not brand new info, despite what LM says. LM said they were in a relationship with a woman several months ago, so I don't know why all the 'i'm coming out' stuff now.

AreYouTerfEnough · 22/03/2018 13:58

The trouble with people like this is that they’re nothing. They’re dull, run of the mill people, with nothing distinctive about them at all. Average, dull, boring, nothing to look at, stupid and unlikely to ever achieve anything of note whatsoever.

They have to adopt these identities in order to feel unique and special. Like they matter.

But they don’t.

Mamaryllis · 22/03/2018 13:57

I don’t think any further comment is required, yet. I know he’s a dick, but he is so painfully unaware that I find it both astonishing that the Labour Party allow such a vulnerable individual to represent them, and so utterly sad that he hasn’t ever got the help he needs. Which should have steered him well away from holding any office until he was more stable and mature (by which point he would never had been elected as he doesn’t have the intellectual chops required.)
The Labour Party are using him as a vote lure for the woke. It’s pretty horrific.

I've just Googled 'schizotypal' and the symptoms are:

Symptoms

People with this disorder may be severely disturbed and might appear schizophrenic. More commonly, however, patient beliefs (aliens, witchcraft, possessing a "sixth sense") are stranger than their behavior, and may often keep them isolated from normal relationships. Hallucinations, however, are not a common symptom.

Other symptoms include:

Discomfort in social situations
Odd beliefs, fantasies or preoccupations
Odd behavior or appearance
Odd speech
Difficulty making/keeping friendships
Inappropriate display of feelings
Suspiciousness or paranoia

I'll refrain from commenting further ...

MissMoneyPlant · 22/03/2018 13:37

I thought autism was on a spectrum, including people who have some traits but not enough to meet the diagnostic threshold? And the wider autism phenotype, so family members may have a trait or two.
I'm diagnosed myself but present as neurotypical so the usual male-centric tests picked up nothing.
I think Lily is a fool to say "a bit autistic" but I wouldn't be surprised if they'd done an online test or something that led to that statement... ie. they are autistic but not actually diagnosed.

Tralalee · 22/03/2018 13:22

I've just read LMs twitter and it's so exhausting. How do these people ever get anything done??

HomeTerf · 22/03/2018 13:19

According to the tweet in the screenshot above, LM admitted in a DM that they are schizotypal, which is a distinct and less extreme condition from schizophrenia, though related.

Tralalee · 22/03/2018 13:09

Is LM suffering with schizophrenia?! That's an awful thing to have to live with. Surely being in her position with everything that twitter brings is not going to be helpful?!

TerfsUp · 22/03/2018 13:04

I think LM is using "schizo" and "a little bit autistic" as Get Out of Jail Free cards in case anyone challenges h* on h* tweets.

There is always the response "Oh, I was suffering from mental illness at the time so I couldn't be responsible for what I was saying".

As someone with autism (diagnosed after jumping through all the assessment and diagnostic hoops) this is incredibly offensive. Life is hard enough when you're autistic without having some attention-seeker claiming to share the condition.

Does LM really have schizophrenia? That’s a very difficult and debilitating condition to live with. I am not saying I disbelieve LM, I am just really surprised that this has not been mentioned before. If it’s true, it shows even more that young people who feel that they don’t belong in their bodies above all need psychological support. Not hormones or people agreeing with them that black isn’t white.

ArcheryAnnie · 22/03/2018 12:49

It's also a way of pre-installing a built-in excuse for bad behaviour. I remember well when stavvers (for those who don't know her, imagine Rik from the Young Ones, except online and not quite as clever) was all "no platform for TERFs! Don't share a platform with the fash!" And then she got a gig (paying, I believe, although I'm not sure) with the BBC, sharing a platform with Julie Bindel. But her "mental health was poor at the time" so it would be mean and disablist to point out what a screaming hypocrite she is.

But if you have PTSD or other trauma which means you don't want to undress in front of a man, well, you are still a bigot and your mental and physical health is no excuse at all....

PaddingtonLoverOfMarmalade · 22/03/2018 12:48

There's no way someone can be 'a bit autistic'. My daughter has high functioning autism and it impacts every second of her waking life (which is too much as she struggles to sleep). Saying 'a bit' suggests LM either doesn't have autism or is ashamed of it. That makes a bit sad and angry.

InsomniaInTheMiddle · 22/03/2018 12:46

I do not believe a word that comes out of LM’s mouth.

I honestly believe that if being deaf or blind suddenly became fashionable, LM would claim to be a ‘little’ bit deaf/blind…

People with mental illness and people, particularly women with autism have enough shit trying to get recognised/support with out attention seekers…

Saying all that I do think that LM must be a damaged person; has a real issue with women in particular their Mother.
