When I think of anime and sex my immediate thoughts are paedophilia and rape. An anime avatar on a trans twitter account is a flashing warning light to me. If the person behind the account is a man, they're the last person who should be given free access to women's spaces.

Anime has a very high level of pedophilic relationships, as well as a lot of "traps" (supposedly female characters that are revealed to be boys) and many storylines on forced feminisation. Many TRAs were originally "ordinary" male nerds spending too much time on forums and image boards such as 4chan which are full of porn and hentai. There is a lot of peadophilia in those type of communities, they love little anime girls.
Those boys/men are so completely disconnected from real life and through their fetish many ended up wanting to be the little anime girl they've been wanking over.

But I agree that it is striking how much of the more extreme side of trans twitter involves anime avatars.
