Just spotted on Twitter that Women's Place are holding a meeting in Oxford next month. I don't think the tickets are on sale yet.

Is anyone on here going to go?

With you all this evening in spirit. I read the SU Facebook post and I find it genuinely chilling to see such rank wilful ignorance coming from the supposed brightest academic achievers. They are fucking idiots. Sad

WichBitchHarpyTerfThatsMe · 25/04/2018 18:36

Good luck everyone, don't forget to channel Ms Obama if you get wound up by any mouthy boys or their handmaidens!

Wanderabout · 25/04/2018 18:35

Am sure you will get in Doublemint

Stuffofawesome · 25/04/2018 18:28

with you in spirit. Courage calls!

qumquat · 25/04/2018 18:25

Thinking of you all tonight. I'm looking forward to updates.

Greymisty · 25/04/2018 18:20

Thinking of those going, hope you have a peaceful and a politely engaging time (with biscuits...the good kind.).

Melamin · 25/04/2018 18:20

You still have 40mins and it takes a good 5 or so to start. Keeping all things crossed for you Smile

Doublemint · 25/04/2018 18:15

I'm still stuck in traffic!!!!!! Will I be let in if I'm late?!

GlomOfNit · 25/04/2018 18:14

Hoping to go as another Mner has got a ticket for me, but we may be cutting it a bit fine! What time are you lot heading over from the pre-meeting venue?

Quetiapina · 25/04/2018 18:13

Doublemint the meetings are a great inspiration. Students in masks should not prevent rational debate

GlomOfNit · 25/04/2018 18:13

Terfmore, I'm not, but I used to attend meeting. It was nice. Smile My first thought when I heard the venue was 'bloody hell, I hope the TRAs don't trash it' Sad

SunsetBeetch · 25/04/2018 18:12

Hope you all have a fabulous meeting!

BingBongSong · 25/04/2018 17:56

Hope you have a great meeting. I love the idea of biscuits! Looking forward to hearing how it goes.

Terfmore · 25/04/2018 17:53

According to Twitter the meeting is being held at the Quaker Meeting House in Oxford.

I'm a Quaker. Our meeting houses are used by lots of groups and the pressure is increasing to "no platform" people. Locally we have pressure from pro Israeli groups to "ban" pro Palestinian groups, and have had pressure from police due to hosting anti fascist groups.

Please send your support to Oxford Meeting.

Wanderabout · 25/04/2018 17:44

SmileSmileSmile

Doublemint · 25/04/2018 17:43

If there's biscuits then you've convinced me! Seriously nervous though. Still stuck in the same place!!!

Wanderabout · 25/04/2018 17:41

The university statement also demanded that people support Action for Trans Health, whose manifesto says:

"There will be no clinics, and no authorities. We will conduct our own research, and experiment with our own bodies... We demand nothing less than the total abolition of the clinic, of psychiatry, and of the medical-industrial complex. We demand an end to capitalist & colonialist “medicine”.

They also demand the release of all trans prisoners.

Wanderabout · 25/04/2018 17:38

Also I've heard rumours there will be biscuits.

Wanderabout · 25/04/2018 17:38

Doublemint there is nothing to be scared of, just some students in hoodies.

The meeting is to discuss women and children's rights. At least one transwoman has said she'll be there.

Sorry your brother isn't coming. It's a shame the letter put him off hearing part of the debate tonight. Did you show him Brian Paddick's tweet.

That uni statement said it was a transphobic outrage to discuss whether women might be discriminated against on the basis of their sex not just their gender identity. It's really not.

Melamin · 25/04/2018 17:38

I think MsMcWoodle is right. It is an important time in women's history. Press on - all the WPUK meetings have been good so far Smile

MumOfThrMoos · 25/04/2018 17:33

Keep going @Doublemint - I went to the London one, it was fab. There were protesters outside but they didn't get in the way.

If you're worried you will find that everybody is very happy to go in together with you - you will not be alone.

MsMcWoodle · 25/04/2018 17:32

You are not a monster and your brother needs to learn to think for himself.
I would love to be there. This is a very important time in women's history. Don't miss it because people are telling lies.

Doublemint · 25/04/2018 17:27

I just wanted to listen to what the changes to the law will/do mean in real terms.

I didn't realise people would think I'm a monster just for attending. My brother is quite offended that I'm attending after he shared to unis statement with me. I'm properly scared- is that ridiculous?!?!

Doublemint · 25/04/2018 17:23

Hi I'm supposed to be going tonight- stuck in awful traffic.

My brother was supposed to go with me but has read the unis LGBT statement and now won't

I'm quite nervous about going at all now to be honest. It sounds so scary to even get in.

I don't know who to believe now. But I know who are scaring me!

Ereshkigal · 25/04/2018 17:20

It's about time WPUK took a few of these people to court about the outrageous lies they tell. I'd certainly contribute to a crowdfunder

Yes, I would too.
