Sigh

OP posts:

I’m assuming that tweet was her by the way - if I’m wrong on that then my bad.

I’ve told her off for it anyway because she is t understanding the difference between gender and sex, and I’m really quite fed up

CoolCarrie · 16/03/2018 09:19

I love the responses to her!

KochabRising · 16/03/2018 09:16

oldcrone I’m not either but if you go to the top of this thread someone put a screenshot of the actual tweet in.

SirVixofVixHall · 16/03/2018 09:12

Am even more enraged about this today. Will get a new email address to post on her thread as I have a justifiable paranoia of this affecting DH's job. Although he agrees with me and is happy for me to speak out.
Yesterday my smallest daughter was talking about history "When was it decided that men would be in charge Mummy?" We talked about female biology, and how that left women vulnerable. I then explained to both daughters why I was fighting on this issue, why I would not vote for any party that supported self id. Then 13 year old daughter, worried, said "If this becomes law here can we move to another country? I don't want to have men in changing rooms or loos with me, I don't want to change if there is a boy or a man there..." A whole generation of girls being told that a boy's feelings would trump their need for safety and privacy, and being told this by a female Welsh politician. I absolutely despair. I've never felt so depressed about politics, so let down. I'm going to the Woman's Place meeting in Cardiff.

Can you link to the tweet where she said "biological sex is a social construct"? I'm not on twitter, so I don't think I can see all her tweets.

SuitedandBooted · 16/03/2018 09:09

I don't know where to start with the level of debate coming from some of Leanne's supporters on there;

Informed poster: "Have a look at this" - links Sages leaflet
TRA plopper: "That has mistakes".
Informed poster: "Really, what/where?"
TRA plopper: "I don't have time to tell you"

Grin Grin!! Seriously! If you have an opinion at least provide something to back it up!

KochabRising · 16/03/2018 09:05

I doubt she’ll respond.

Although it’d be fun if she did. The last politician I engaged with in person who tried to patronise me on science got a shock ;)

After recording mingle on ‘any questions’ - still one of my favourite memories :)
Seeing dimbleby listening and smiling was also amusing :)

UpstartCrow · 16/03/2018 09:02

KochabRising Love your post and await the responses with interest.

KochabRising · 16/03/2018 08:53

She didn't actually say that in the article

She said it in the tweet. I just made a new email address and posted.

Outdated notions of biology my arse,

OldCrone · 16/03/2018 08:50

If she actually said "biological sex is a social construct" why isn't she being laughed out of the building??
She didn't actually say that in the article. What she said was
A feminism that understands that gender is a complex and deeply personal thing, and is about so much more than outdated ideas of biology.

Which is almost as bad. Despite heading the article with the words 'Inclusive Feminism', she doesn't seem to have a clue about what feminism actually is.

womanformallyknownaswoman · 16/03/2018 08:49

Being a DV worker isn't necessarily a good reference - working with vulnerable women attracts many bullies - they get to feel better about themselves by "helping" but all the time are hostaged to the patriarchy in various ways

Igneococcus · 16/03/2018 08:47

I don't know them PeteandManu and I'm in Scotland. I'll see what I can find about them.

Maybe I'm overly optimistic about the number of people who will actually transition and it may well be that Pharma wants to cash in on some drugs they have while they can.
I know I'm basing my predictions of actual number of potential patients on my belief that this is a passing fad with the potential of longterm damage to women in general and to the individuals who get caught up in it. I might be entirely wrong however and numbers might really increase massively and then it would be a valuable future market for pharma. It's a bit of a gamble for them though.

PineappleScrunchie · 16/03/2018 08:41

The proposed changes to the Gender Recognition Act don’t affect the exemptions under the Equality Act for single sex services.

This, from her article, is completely disingenuous. Sex based exemptions are meaningless if anyone can self-identify as either sex.

LoislovesStewie · 16/03/2018 08:39

I speak as the mother of a son who has told me he wants to be female. Clearly I don`t want them to be assaulted for the way they are, but neither would I want them to cause alarm or distress to others as quite frankly there is no difference in the way they look or behave. The whole thing is very upsetting for the family.

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 16/03/2018 08:33

If she actually said "biological sex is a social construct" why isn't she being laughed out of the building?? Shock

MyVisionsComeFromSoup · 16/03/2018 08:30

credit to SmurforTerf and RedToothbrush for the very funny question which I shamelessly stole.

MyVisionsComeFromSoup · 16/03/2018 08:25

Thanks for the twitter link, i might have taken the piss a bit Wink

But what really really annoys me, is that I don't feel able to post under my real name on her website, not because it might affect me, but because of the effect it might have on the rest of my family, as we have a distinctive surname, and I don't want my DH or DC to have problems at work/school Sad. Why have we come to this, that it's scary to tell a politician they're speaking a pile of poo, when they're speaking a pile of poo?

KochabRising · 16/03/2018 08:17

Hadley freeman is fabulous :) I wonder if she’s on here?

Thanks chatty

xxhelenaxx I currently don’t have an email address that isn’t linked to my MN or my job or my name, so I’m absolutely not going to log into that site with anything identifying. I also don’t have Twitter

If anyone would like to copy paste what I wrote onto the comments please feel free.

Alltheprettyseahorses · 16/03/2018 08:10

Wood herself has a child, I believe. Did she just settle down with a totally random person of unspecifiable sex and believe each had an equal 50/50 chance of getting pregnant in that relationship? Biological sex being totally a social construct. Or, perhaps, was the other person quantifiably male with male gametes and is she respectively female with female gametes? Was she surprised when she found out she was the one who was pregnant rather than her partner?

Writersblock2 · 16/03/2018 08:07

I’m bloody proud of all the women spending time after time speaking out and explaining how much this is bullshit. Keep going, we’ve got this. There are too many of us to shut up.

KittyPerry77 · 16/03/2018 08:04

Eight paragraphs but still no room to explain how transwomen are women; just reasons as to how the nice thing to do would be to treat them as if they are.

sportinguista · 16/03/2018 07:52

OK, I want to see LM, Heather Peto and Paris Lees all pregnant before I start believing biology isn't real. So which blokes are up for making that one a reality?

Igneococcus the numbers are small but are increasing with the pushing of the trans agenda and with them being lifelong and potentially worldwide they could still be pretty lucrative, especially when you consider that some countries such as Brazil are now making off patent drugs at very low prices due to the monopoly of big Pharma you can see why they might want an increasing and lucrative market. If you push this belief it might mean an ever increasing market, small at first but potentially...

swivelchair · 16/03/2018 07:48

If biology is outdated, they really need to prioritise research to find out why every person I know who's got pregnant is female, and none of the males I know ever has, irrespective of gender cos that seems like quite an important thing to me....

Or you know, they could stop being so wide-eyed, faux innocent, and be sensible.

PeteAndManu · 16/03/2018 07:30

I was responding to Bejazzled and the Scottish Family Party - never heard of them. Who are they?
